I agree and anytime I see Spike anywhere there’s a 100% chance you’ll hear my say eek.. help.. Spike.. oh no.. Molly. That phrase has been burned into my memory
This whole time I've been watching your Be Right Back animation on your Twitch streams and I had no idea that Spike was a real character! I thought you made him up yourself! Even the feet shuffle sound is accurate haha. My mind is officially blown!
@@ErinPlays There is such fantastic work being done in the homebrew community. Sometimes they get overlooked. Since I see that you have the SK3.0 Multicart, you can check out games like Release, Trapped, Veccy Bird, and Vectopia. If you like, I can make some donations of some other interesting homebrews.
I got Spike in 1984 for my Vectrex game console. Loved the game and I got pretty good about kicking the "Bouncer" (the TV with the antennas and the bouncy leg) and "The Bird". (which looks like someone rowing)
Erin - you make great videos and are doing an Excellent job! dont let anyone give you crap about anything, keep positive, and I will be sure to keep watching your channel. You do good for yourself and make retro gaming fun and cool. Thanks again!
Love the vectrex !!! Never had one growing up . But it's a great system for the time. Only because it's stand alone system!! They should come out with something like it again!!!
Another great video Erin. Sadly, I never knew about Spike. The game looks to be simple yet fun and intense. Better graphics does not always mean better games.
This game looks pretty fun. I'd probably be playing that one all night if I owned a Vectrex. Spike's Water Ballooons almost looks like a clone of Kaboom!. Not a bad thing as I love Kaboom!. Great video as always Erin!
Erin, I'm curious. How did you get into retro gaming? The reason I ask is because you genuinely seem to love it. One of my my favorite vids of yours is the Sears Tele Games Pinball console. You were so happy to have it, and what struck me is that most would turn their nose up at it. Even older gamers. Seeing the passion you have for older games is pretty awesome.
The short answer is that I loved my SNES so much as a kid, that I wanted to know what came before it. So then I got a NES and so on. Basically, I've always been curious about gaming that came before me and I never grew out of that! Thanks to the internet, it let me dive deeper into retro gaming as I got older and now here I am--- making videos about Sears Telegames! ha
Erin Plays That's awesome. I was betting that perhaps it might have been someone in your family that led you in that direction. But yeah, the SNES is a great system, for sure.
Its rare to see any one talk about the Vectrex, my cousin had one with many games and overlays. was a fun gaming console for the time............ Hmmm i wonder if his partents still have it. maybe i can buy it off them........gotta go running next door.
I grew up with Intelevision and didn't have an Atari until later then all the other consoles but I kind of want to get a vectrix now but I'm afraid it's going to hurt my eyes. Lol
Mascots. Remember when those existed? They had a lot of personality and gave their companies personality. It was cool to see. Sadly, they're increasingly becoming a thing of the past.
I would say that you can also kick while jumping, which make the gameplay even better. (and I do not remember right but isn't there a second villain between stairs like some bird flying, or just only jumping TV?)
Your videos are quality and I really appreciate your content, the hard work you put into every one of them is very apparent. But maybe think about speeding up the candor of your voice just a little bit, because it sounds like you're reading rather than speaking naturally. Again I do like all your work and I support you in everything you do, I'm just giving my own dumb opinion. Rock on, Erin!
@@ErinPlaysYou always win and I hope you don't think I'm being negative, the quality of your work is astounding. I think maybe a 15 percent speedup from this video is all you need. I speak publicly as well and I have found taking acting and improv classes to be extremely useful in my daily life as well as my professional life. Again, you're amazing, keep up the great work.
Someone needs to do a list of games that involve some guy's lady being stolen by a big baddy, and the object of the game being to go rescue her. I'd do it but I have a real girlfriend and yeah... time.
Hi Erin, I think you posted a video where the main character inexplicably had a capital N in the middle of their name. Do you remember the game and the video? Thank-you
Where you actually into games much when you were younger? What systems did you have as a kid and what was a couple of your favorite games? When did you first hear of the Vectrex? Sorry for so many questions, just curious!
Yes, I was into games as a kid. Played a lot of Microsoft’s Return of arcade and went to the arcade in our local mall a lot, then got my first system which was a SNES. I wanted what came before that so then I convinced my mom to get me a NES from Funcoland so I could compare SMB3 to the All Stars version. I was into all the Mario games as a kid, then of course had n64, gba etc. Played a lot of Yoshis island which was my first snes game and it turned out to be the first game I ever beat. as I got older and thanks to the wonders of the internet, I got into other games and older systems and dove deeper into retro gaming because I just enjoy it more than most modern games. I got my Vectrex around 2 years ago I think. Don’t remember when I first heard of it, a while before that though.
Love your videos darling. Huge fan ❤ plus youre beautiful and cool as hell 😉 but i love your videos on the Vectrex. Its an awesome machine. Id love to have one if i could afford it.
I would say a mascot may help a company...(?) In early 80's I was a child and I did loved the Bandai Double Panel Solarpower, Terror House, Airport Panic, Amazon, and Frankenstein. I loved these games more than the Nintendo game and watch. But now I realized, seeing how Mario came from donkey kong, and made Nintendo itself. I realized Bandai had no mascot... All the lcd bandai games had a average character. A man, a child, a woman... all with their face, while Nintendo had not but Mr game and watch without face, but a name. Bandai had no star, no name, no mascot. Could it make the company a harder challenge to compete, with no hero lifeline? ... I always asked myself why these extreme good 2 screens bandai games had not the success they deserved....
I appreciate the visual style and the voice synthesis rocks, but I have to disagree with you about this game. It's the first Vectrex game I've come across that I think is boring. While it was an innovation at the time, I regret paying retro gaming collector prices for it. I guess now at least I can say that I have the mascot game for the Vectrex in my collection.
The voices in this game make me so genuinely happy and i don’t know why. Spike is a gem
Me too! Everything about it is just so perfect.
I agree and anytime I see Spike anywhere there’s a 100% chance you’ll hear my say eek.. help.. Spike.. oh no.. Molly. That phrase has been burned into my memory
OMG! Kelsey and Erin you're both awesome! Make a video together!
Yet another awesome retro gaming vid: concise, informative, and entertaining. Level up! Never heard of Spike.
Thanks so much!
My uncle had a Vectrex with about 10 games and this was everyone's favorite game. Coolest uncle ever.
I love your watching your videos. Learn so much in gaming I didn’t know. 😄
OMG! My friend Richard and I loved playing Vectrex, but I had no idea the system could do anything like this! WOW!! Thanks for sharing!
I love that it uses perspective to make a 3D game. It kind of makes sense too since the Vectrex is all about lines which make perspective easy.
I need this in my life.
Love this. Spike was a limited release game back in the day near the end of the Vectrex game run. Hard to find then and now. Great video Erin!
Is it just me or is Spike's voice better than most Sega Genesis voices?
Love your videos! They're way fun to watch. Keep up the great work!
This is awesome. My knowledge of the Vectrex universe is admittedly limited, and I’ve never heard of Spike before. The game looks like a lot of fun!
This whole time I've been watching your Be Right Back animation on your Twitch streams and I had no idea that Spike was a real character! I thought you made him up yourself! Even the feet shuffle sound is accurate haha. My mind is officially blown!
awesome video Erin! love the retro content
I don't see too many video game mascots often. I would love to see some in the future.
When we were kids, I used to walk around the house saying “Eek! Spike! Oh no! Molly!” and “Darnit!” Good times.
Cool video. Vector graphics are great and I never thought a game like this existed.
This game looks so cool! You really know your stuff too
That looks so cool! Ahead of its time. The intro was the best!
How can you not love those super realistic voices.
The Vectrex looks so awesome! I’d love to own one some day.
It’s always nice to see Vectrex content. I’d love to see you do some homebrew stuff.
Like playthroughs of homebrews? Yeah, that would be fun!
@@ErinPlays There is such fantastic work being done in the homebrew community. Sometimes they get overlooked. Finally a video game character i can easily draw on Mario Paint! Thanks again Erin for another cool video
"Maybe Molly sucks...." lol, brutal
Vectrex games look awesome. Great video. Spike reminds me of an early Ristar.
We had a Vectrex when we were kids. Our father picked it up from a garage sale.

plus Erin I do like how you made that Erin Plays Title in Vectrex Graphics it looks cool!
Thanks! My friend Joe made it a while back for my first Vectrex video :)
Never knew that Vectrex existed and I’m old. But I just watched your Vectrex video from 2017, so now I’m up to speed.
Love the vectrex !!! Never had one growing up . But it's a great system for the time. Only because it's stand alone system!! They should come out with something like it again!!!
i was just filmed one of these at a game store in california. it was such a trip to see one of these being used!
Looks like fun! Gives me another one to look for when I finally get a Vectrex.
Another great video Erin. Sadly, I never knew about Spike. The game looks to be simple yet fun and intense. Better graphics does not always mean better games.
This video made me realize that I need a t-shirt with Spike on it.
The world needs more SPIKE merch!
Spike is pretty awesome. My current favourite Vectrex game is Webwarp 😎
Oh Spike's a classic, give me Mine Storm all day everyday but Spike is good for a short play.
This game looks pretty fun. I'd probably be playing that one all night if I owned a Vectrex. Spike's Water Ballooons almost looks like a clone of Kaboom!. Not a bad thing as I love Kaboom!. Great video as always Erin!
Yup! It totally is a Kaboom! clone, haha. Thanks for watching!

That 3D platforming was clearly ahead of its time, and what is that 60 fps? Nice.
The Sean Kelly Multicart 3.0 is definitely the best out there!
It is!
This is very cool actually. Very interested in this game. Its like nes donkey Kong just vectex style. Nice one 👍
3:02 that got dark fast. Still laughed though
It doesn’t get any better than Erin and the Vectrex.

I kinda dig the hand drawn art style.

Looks very fun
Spike Rules Darnit!
Aw. Spike remind me of my cat.
This is a fun and basic game is you ask me :D
A reliably great gaming channel
Thank you!
That Hamburglar print tho.
Oh no molly i love this game

Spike is so cute😍
Excellent Vectrex video
Thanks!
And Yes,,,,, #Spike is the #Vectrex #Mascot.
2:35 a beaded curtain!
The first mascot that pop ups when I think of the 3DO is John, the plumber who wears a tie.
Plumbers don't wear ties.
I also don't know if Spike was the official mascot for the Spectrex. But I'm pretty sure that he is the long lost father of Ristar.
I was wondering where you're "Break Time" character came from. :)
Sega Saturn mascots: Nights, Pepper the Knight.
