Thank you for sharing that with us. An old RD6 and she’s still putting like a kitten thanks to the TLC you give her. It was heartwarming to see you taking her through the woods. My hat’s off to you and those of kindred spirit who understand that these machines still have life in them and need to be saved from the scrapyard.
All engines should be eased into running like you did with your old Cat. Dr. Squatch knows how to care for his patients! The audio in the woods was GREAT. :-) Smoooooooth idle.
Thank you for the nice music the best sound you can hear is caterpillar purring through the words marking his territory every place you go The best channel on RUclips thank you for being a keeper of the old iron!
Squatch, Thanks for taking me along for a beautiful ride. I could almost smell diesel smoke mixed with autumn leaves, fresh soil. Takes me back to childhood memories. This is by far my favorite subscribed channel. You and your father keep up the great work. Thanks, Boe
@@squatch253 I'm telling ya - that last image of the RD-6 emblem on the radiator, with the massively alligatored paint and the semi-rusty black grate supports - that is a dynamite Squatch253 t-shirt image. I would buy them for all six of my grandkids.
I was crawling thru the woods one day. On an RD6 they say.. Oh the shifting was so fine.. on this old cat of mine.. i enjoyed crawling thru the woods that day..
We had an RD6 on our farm in the 1970's & I ran it a lot. It's crankshaft broke when I raised a 4 bottom plow & the load changed from heavy to near nothing...
So much good that cannot be described lives on when this old girl comes to life, ,,, love to hear her muttering "here i come, you might want to get out of the way".
RD6 looks and sounds great! Love the various camera shots as you took her for a spin in the woods. Will you be taking the 10 for a ride before winter? Thanks Squatch! 🇺🇸🚜👍
RD6 What a lovely machine, just great listening to that slow revving engine putting down the torque. Such low ground pressure too. I could watch that all day!
What a great joyride in the forest!!!!.....Loved seeing all the moving/rotating bits up close, starting/running sounds are music to my ears!!!!!....Had to watch the whole thing twice to get my "fix"......great video!!!!!
Yeh! I just watched a chugs chugs Case 150 steamer pulling a 36 bottom plow. Talk about crawling! Then, they had it on a belt drive dyno where it did 980 pressure, 178 hp and 5300 (yes 5300 ft lbs of torque). They warned everyone to stand way back in case that belt would snap.
The pony motor governor action with each compression stroke of the main engine was cool! That's how they're SUPPOSED to run. If they were well cared for and everyone had a pony that ran that well, there would be no market for direct start conversions.
I'd pay to ride a hay wagon being pulled by that beast. You could line up all the projects and do a History of Caterpillar hayride. Thanks for another great video Squatch!
Holy cow no wonder the internal electric starter was invented. First time I saw a pony engine start I was 12 years old. A neighbor farmer had an old D8 he would start that way. Thought it was the funniest thing ever.
It's good you took her for a long run. I have always thought that if you start an engine it should be run until the oil reaches operating temperature. Plus it is just good fun to take them for a drive.👍😎 Wish I had the room.😒
I'd rather watch this over cars going in a dam oval over again. I want to put in ur ear a possible winter cold start. We think it needs it. I like and our d9 crank a few times closed choke until you get a pop or 2. Open butterfly try again usually starts. Ohh at the end on shutdown our cat and i/h the book states to shut down with relief valves closed as this seats the valves. Nice clip
Hi Squatch253, Salvage Workshop has an eye twitcher for you with a "1950's Caterpillar TraxCavator" he's just got going. He's looking for knowledge about a pin in the center of the underframe.
So I read through that you drain the pony's gas tank for long term storage. Do you put snot knocker in the diesel fuel tank and fill it smack dab full, or do you drain it as well? Also, do you all use any sulfur additives?
JUST got mine running (video on my channel if anyone cares to watch lol) and this video really makes me want to take it for a drive. But the R steering clutch needs some help. love the sound of those old 3 cylinders, possibly my favorite
Nothing like a nice stroll through the timber. Shame you don't have a building with a rock floor, can park them all inside for the winter. Curious, if you had the chance to get an old "long nose" D6, would you? And would you take the time to completely restore it? I know they've become something of a rarity anymore rather, I thought they had. Great video, cheers :)
Who else would rather watch that RD6 take slow laps in the woods than watch a modern-day NASCAR race ? 🤣 Awesome vid!
Yes something about old iron and the sound it makes..was what i needed to hear this mornin with my coffee ☕
I like listening to that thing cluck like a setting hen.
Absolutely. Top notch people, too.
Me too.....
NASCAR hasn't been the same since 2001
just a man taking his cat for a walk in the woods.

My favourite machine. Nearly 50 years ago i worked in a factory in the U.K. that made the big pistons for Caterpillar
Interesting, i would have thought Cat made everything in the USA back then. Were any other components made there for Caterpillar?
@@KStewart-th4sk The piston rings for sure. Whether there were other companies in the U.K. making other parts i couldn't say.

That cackle just makes me smile 😃!

What great scenes - even the RD6 was smiling! Thanks so much for including us Toby, enjoy your fall.
Squatch,

Thanks, Boe
That RD-6 makes me smile. Excellent camera work!
I'm guessing that heaven involves driving around in heavy old iron. Hibernate safely, Torque Monster.
Alan I don't think Heaven would be Heaven for me with out Tractors! 😀
@@squatch253 you are a wise man my friend.

The loop access road is coming along nicely!
That RD6 sure sounds lovely under load.
Love the sound of those old rt-6 is it just sounds so cool my dad had one when I was a kid
Look at the beautiful starter motor! 😍
Fall is definitely there now with the trees changing and the ferns dying off. Thanks for the "Cat Walk"!!!
I’ve been waiting on this one. That RD6 is my favorite of the fleet. Love that low rpm cackle.

Nothing beats the hyena cackle of the iron mistress! Love it when you push the throttles up! What a marvel she is!
It's surprisingly light on the shrubbery.
Great backwoods tour - thanks for the ridealong!
Awesome runs like a charm. I cant wait to have one of my own!!! Man this summer did fly by.
Thanks for taking me on a ride through the woods! Priceless.
Nice to hear her going again
Thank you Toby....you made my day! I just love that sound.

Love the way that 3-cylinder sounds at an idle.

Cool love these old dozers getting fixed and painted and such. Nice!

Great sound from that 3 cylinder engine. Thanks for the ride along.👍👍
Great bedtime story for tonight. Thanks Toby.
That old cat in the woods was music to my ears!!!
It was great to see that machine start so easily after nearly a year of sitting.
Thanks
That RD6 sure sounds nice. Thanks for the tour around the woods.
Great way to end the summer.
Wow, has it been a year since you and Sr bought the Kubota and were knocking down trees around your house. My how time flies!
Neat old crawler!
looking good there Squatch
It’s a caterpillar brother, I knew it was gonna crank before you turned that fuel on. Keep up the good work on the channel love the videos
That was awesome I love hearing the old iron get out and make noise!!
Nothing like a nice day in the woods with the ol dozer.
What a perfect way to unwind from the super m project.
That's the coolest thing i ever seen!! A crawler started by hand crank!!!
Good night Irene
Many was that relaxing to watch and listen too. Thanks for the 10 minutes of peace.
Nice..just happily loping along...and seemed to just fire right up
There's nothing like a stroll in the woods to cheer up an old lady!
So just out of curiousity, is that Cat Twenty on the "someday list"? Thanks for the video!
The pony motor governor action with each compression stroke of the main engine was cool! That's how they're SUPPOSED to run. If they were well cared for and everyone had a pony that ran that well, there would be no market for direct start conversions.
What a pretty drive with that RD6..............
Sure would have been nice to here it in the field with the plow. Like your channel
She has a good echo cackle in the woods.
Nice to see it got some exercise.
Man, that soundtrack sure does something for my soul!
Great fall color tour with the soothing sounds of a kick but RD6!
Glad the battery was still up! :-)
I'd pay to ride a hay wagon being pulled by that beast. You could line up all the projects and do a History of Caterpillar hayride. Thanks for another great video Squatch!
That sounded great when you were coming through the woods great video
I had no doubt it wouldn't start. Any Squatch 253 has starts and runs perfectly.
the dogs are going crazy from all the squeaking just going for a cruise
Made some sweet music with the rd6 thanks bud love to hear those ole cats chugging along
That sound deep throated chug chug. Wow. Brings back memories. Thanks
Holy cow no wonder the internal electric starter was invented. First time I saw a pony engine start I was 12 years old. A neighbor farmer had an old D8 he would start that way. Thought it was the funniest thing ever.
Can never get fed up o that sound 💪💪💪
Now that's one sweet crawler tractor.
Really enjoy this! I didn't see any smoke what so ever coming out the stack. That thing must really have a solid engine!
No trees were injured during the filming of this episode. A few tight spots, but you passed the driving test with flying colors.
Alright! My favorite!
That is a sweet sounding machine, starts better than a new one. Forgot about the drawbar pin hanging down didn't 'ya LOL........Mike
That started so nice, sounds nice too, Just need a Kilner Jar for the Air cleaner
Ahh a gentle stroll through the majestic forest. I'm surprised the little birds and deer didn't flock to you like snow white. 🤣
There is just something about running "Old Iron" even if it's just a short ride. Those Old Timed knew how to make 'em.
It's good you took her for a long run. I have always thought that if you start an engine it should be run until the oil reaches operating temperature. Plus it is just good fun to take them for a drive.👍😎

Early morning tractors 👍
Now’s it’s ready for a long winters nap!
What's beside that tree on the left around 7:50 ? Almost looks like the nose of a car with yellowed headlights. Excellent video!
I just love good music in the morning!
Keep up the great videos!! Do you still have the small engine seen at the 3:00 mark of the Part 32 Minneapolis Moline X231 rebuild series??
Excellent video keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
What a machine!
You have a good eye for setting up scenes to show your Cat. But I can't help from wanting to yell " open the throttle!".
Nice to watch. I saw the grill of a Caterpillar Twenty. Is that a future project?
Coolest tractor there is.

that baby purrs.....
Your videos are always interesting, and the quality is always great. You make good content. Keep doing what your doing. 👍
That sound!
Who needs an ATV...right? 3:36 Ah the smell of gas starting engine exhaust and unburned diesel...the smell of victory. 4:50 Tree!
