This illustrates one of my frustrations with Americans pretty well. When you ask someone where they're from (in an international sense, like online/on holiday) everyone responds with their Country *except* Americans. They always respond with their state: "I'm from TEXAS". Whenever I've called them out on it their argument is that "Well the US is so big". Which is annoying because other smaller countries have much more diversity per km/mile than the US has. As someone from the South of England I sometimes struggle to even talk to people from the North :D
