I can tell that the saw in this video is smiling proudly as its owner shows it off. // I just got one of these and am being careful to learn all about it before I do something I shouldn't do. Yes it is a bad idea, maybe not so dangerous on such a small saw but very dangerous on a large one. I think that Proxxon FET is in many ways a really good saw but it requires a lot of adjustment before it works optimally but these are things you can do yourself.
My order of these Machine is comming from Amazon .. when i got it i had to go to make these guide of wood.. is much better and save. Saludos desde Lima Perù.

Thank you for your comment. I bought mine because of the size and because it is quite quiet and found that it can actually do quite a lot, especially if you make a Cross Cut or Side Cut Sled you will love it.
@@Harris-DIY remove orange protector and set to max thickness for cutting, i have seen people do that... I have this tool myself and it's nice that it's not only designed for cutting veneer.
Thank you for all your great videos Harris! I've been learning so much. I'm thinking about buying a FET but want to use it for slightly bigger cuts… I wonder if it could do longer longitudinal cuts? Have you ever tried something like that? Do you think it could be possible if the working surface was extended in the back to receive a longer piece of material?

You can build a plate behind the saw to support long cuts, I myself have several times sawed lengths of 1-2 ml 6 mm MDF and 3 mm plexiglass and light wood but I would not recommend doing it in dimensions over 10 mm and your setup should be so it does not squeeze and stop the saw. The saw is built to small dimensions and although the motor can handle a lot, the construction itself is weak and the electronics are sensitive to overload.
@@Harris-DIY thank you so much for your detalied reply. Perhaps I need something slightly bigger then. I was looking at the DeWalt 8 1/4 inch table saw, but it runs in 110v and has markings in inches instead of metric… Do you have any suggestions as to possible alternatives?
I have not just considered a table saw but it would probably be either a Bosch or DeWALT. There are two things in particular that would be important, it must have a fens that is 100% stable and then it must be possible to use a Cross Cut Sled

There are several reasons why I choose not to speak in my videos, I speak poor English and as you can see my videos are made outdoors and it makes greater demands on the technical equipment, I do everything with my iPad and have no finances for to buy better equipment or make an indoor studio.

Man kann keinen Schiebestock beilegen der alle Holzstärken berücksichtigt. Man hat auch hier den Eindruck es sei ein Manko. Man muss mit dem Schiebestock einfach nur umgehen können. Das ist nichts anderes als bei einer normal großen Maschine. Die Fet finde ich für den Preis hervorragend. Für etwas besseres muss man das vierfache ausgeben.

Thank you for your comment, make a Cross Cut Sled and you will get a completely different saw where you can really do good work. It is not very difficult or expensive if you start with a simple model, once you have made one you can move on to a more advanced model that suits what you are working with.

Yes, I think it is possible if you plan it right but if you have many you need to get rid of, a larger saw is probably preferable :-)
