Just as a reminder, at the end of freshman year, the Thistlespring lawnmower was a tank. And by the start of junior year, it was a fucking machine. There are three possibilities we can extrapolate from this information:
1: The Thistlesprings have two different lawnmowers.
2: The Thistlesprings decided a fucking machine was more valuable to them than a tank.
3: The Thistlesprings have a lawnmower that is equal part tank and fucking machine. This makes the lawnmower an alternate universe version of Sundry Sidney,
Another extra detail about the machines. The "appendages" are oversized for humans but the Thistlesprings are halflings who are like 3 foot tall. I'm just saying they must know some powerful wizards to be able to use those things. Or maybe they are detatchable and have smaller "appendages" for their personal use and bigger ones for the larger species who were attending.
