Agreed. The resell market isn't what it used to be. I've bought plenty of hyped releases for retail or lower. The few I did pay resell, they were only a few dollars over retail due to shipping, tax, etc. Patience is key. Plus, there's always something else to backtrack or just around the corner.
Exactly, my time buying shoes I’ve never paid resale and never will. I much rather just miss out on the shoe completely or hope for a restock chance than to ever pay resale for a shoe.
In the city I live in there's a park with a train for family and kids to ride for ten minutes for $5 but nowadays you can buy tickets online. It's always sold out now but the train is empty. People buy all the seats then try to resell the seat for 20$ but no1 buys it so the train goes around but empty all year

I took a break off buying sneakers outside of airmaxes for years, I dipped back into Jordan’s this year after buying my house and getting a bump at work, I was shocked I was able to two pairs of Jordan’s this year for at retail or below weeks after the drop, it’s been great!
As someone who hates Jordans, I never had this issue with resellers It’s sad that people be spending 500 dollars on shoes, not realizing Nike and Adidas have plenty of pairs that are cheaper and more comfortable I will buy a pair because I genuinely like the feel and look of the shoes I could care less about trends It’s the best when you do your own thing
Yeah, I was just thinking that, but why didn’t they start doing that like in the mid 2000s when ppl. started collecting and reselling? Bc that would be a way to stop the resellers and ppl. can buy at stores and at retail.
@jacknjill3000 back then sneaker reselling wasn't as big or wasn't known to the masses. Now people posting pictures of all the box's they done bought.and now they know the average person can't get the shoes and paying well over retail for a shoe that ain't worth the retail anyways
Nike can stop the resellers. If tiny little knife businesses can stop bots, Nike can. Hinderer knives, Monkey Edge, and Traditional pocket knives have all taken measures to stop them. And don't think for one second that the money in knives isn't comparable. It's actually way higher in the knife world.
Most of these high-priced sneakers don't make it into the market. Instead, they are circulated to other dealers and speculators, who believe they have a valuable item that will yield a return. Truth, not many consumers were dropping 2k on Jordans. It was dealers buying from dealers.
Jesus that's so whack... It's like Instagram "models" who just like each other's pages and comment on each other's stuff, propping up their own little market, but noone else is actually participating.
I was very happy to discover that handmade leather boots and shoes would outlast and certainly also look better than any sneakers. I bought some handmade English leather boots from crockett and jones, specifically their black scotch grain islay boots. They're 900$, but they'll outlast 900$ worth of sneakers, and they'll be comfier and look nicer too. Can't exactly polish and shine a pair of sneakers now can you lol. I was mostly surprised by how much more comfortable these boots were than sneakers like Jordan's. It really can't be overstated how high quality leather can soften and become supple and maleable, literally morphing to fit your foot. It's basically an orthotic. The insole of the boots have the shape of my toes and overall foot pressed into the leather.
You know the feeling you get when you catch a mosquito on you, and you smash it? That's the same feeling I get seeing a Reseller sitting on 10s of Thousands of Dollars of shoes somebody could've actually worn and appreciated. Hope they all go hungry...
That's well and good if all you want are GR and regular Nikes and Jordans. If you want anything dope you aren't getting a sale or promo code. You possibly could get lucky at the outlets but your not likely to catch a hype shoe unless you get a win at launch on sneakers, win a retailers raffle or pay resale.
Facts. I usually only do sales or codes. I did get the Jackie Robinson Air Max 1s at drop full price because I knew they would be gone but it had been a long time since I bought at drop.

Something similar happened here in Mexico with the Costco desserts. There can only be one Costco per big city, so many people live far away from the store. People who sell desserts on the street saw an opportunity and started re-selling Costco desserts on their tables (there are a few near my home and I buy from them because I'm not driving across the city just for a cookie or a chocolate muffin). So I see nothing wrong with that, it's a win win, a box of 6 muffins it's 100 pesos, which is around 17 pesos per muffin, and they sell them between 30 and 35 pesos, super aforfable since a slice of cake from starbucks is like 80 pesos. HOWEVER, Other people got the wrong idea and mistook these small bisnesses for a gold mine. And there was a massive avalanche of Costo cakes re-sellers buying all the cakes the moment they were out, and then selling them right by the side of Costo and super costly. Like... my dude! The reason I buy from re-sellers it's because they are near my house and they are affordable! If I'm already in the store why would I want to buy your cakes at a higher price?! Like seriouly, on January, there's a tradition in Mexico where we eat "Rosca de Reyes" and they were around 300 pesos in Costco, there was a guy who baught all of them from his city and was trying to sell them at 1200 pesos. Mexicans can hardly afford necessities, and this guy thought we were goint to pay 1200 pesos for a piece of bread. He then graced us by lowering the price from 1200 to 900. Still nobody bought them, and he had to sell them at les than 100 pesos past the festive day. Re-selling only works if people keep greed out of their sistem.
When the PS5 came out I was very surprised how the scalpers were dictating the price of the PS5 and XBox. I hated it. I also learned sneakers were being sold by scalpers as well and the markup was insane. I'm happy to be a boomer where sneakers don't mean anything to me anymore.
Man they do it with everything!! They remade the Super Nintendo that was supposed to be 69.99 thanks to resellers they were going for 249 plus. Was so annoying. I’m cheap and will wait anything out. Waited 3 years to get an Xbox at retail. F em
If a shoe you want is being scalped then you can just buy a different shoe, there's no shortage of supply. Can't do that for. Initial console shortage besides maybe just starting on previous gen or PC.
I don’t know or care about sneakers at all, but you still managed to make the video interesting and enjoyable- even for a person like me. Well done, sir!
Had a buddy I grew up with and he wasn't a reseller but he would go to sneaker releases at footlocker and buy two pairs of whatever was coming out. One for him and one he would resell. Made like $50 a pair sometimes. He wasn't trying to get rich but in his mind it got him his pair for cheaper so he used it to his advantage.
I don't follow sneaker content at all, in fact this was a random recommendation in my feed. But pretty cool to see. As someone who only buys merrills and pumas. It's nice to know that other brands are starting to go down in price maybe if I ever have kids I'll be able to afford them a decent pair of sneakers for those every time their foot size goes up by one or at least once a year like my parents used to do. Back when you could buy Adidas and Nikes at Walmart
I used to wait outside of footlocker at midnight to buy my sneakers. Id bring a portable chair and just talk to everyone else on the line. But by the time I went to college I realized that it was a stupid thing to buy and moved on. Now im seeing sneakerheads who have been long in the game desperately try to sell their shoes online because of inflation catching up to them.
Good point on the used sneakers. Have been buying new sneakers all my life all the way back to the days of camping out the night before for a pair. Just recently I’ve been buying slightly used pairs on EBay. Far more cost effective.
Guy is mad that he lost $20k on the Royal Reimagined AJ1s but he’s also the reason I got mine for $130. I got a small collection but they’re easily my go-to so I may end up buying another nice pair, and probably get them for much cheaper. Thanks again!!

I was lucky from a certain point of view because the enthusiasm for these things didn't disappear immediately when I saw the amount of resells that took place. there are many other passions to delve into, waiting for this phenomenon to let go and leave others with the pleasure of delving into it without having to go crazy.
You know what kills me? Maybe i noticed it because ill go 5 years between buying a pair of jordans, 2 years between AF, and 2 years between air maxs, but the quality of the fakes are surpassing some of the REAL thing these days. Thats whats been killing me for the last decade.
Idk much about shoes, never been my thing, but I like this message. Also; Some dbag has the scummy idea to buy up the vast majority of a specific shoe, just to find out that, at the end of the day, they are still only shoes. That’s hilarious
I just don't get the 'sneaker' obsession. As a Brit, to me, a pair of trainers is just something to put on your feet. And then go out and accidentally step in dog sh't wearing them.
You play with the cards, with groups of people. Buying playing cards makes sense. Buying these reseller sneakers makes no sense. They look ugly and will wear out eventually if you actually use them.
Scalping like this is in everything. I remember the graphics cards getting this treatment when the 30 series came out from nvidia. It's just that with sneakers, the companies have been helping everything by making everything limit edition.
@ZowVaagNL honestly I'm not that mad at the miners. Sure they used a graphics card for something it wasn't designed, however that didn't tend to increase prices for extended periods of time. The scalpers used the money they got from their original purchases to continue to keep the price artificially high by keeping things out of the general market. Another main difference is that thr miner at least uses the graphics card, most of the scalpers never even built a computer with them inside.
The same thing is going on in the vintage reselling world in the Sates. The clothing resellers sell to each other, hype the same 5 shirts ,manipulate the market and gouge the average consumer who doesn't understand the details of vintage. I've heard Drew Heifetz talk about manipulating that market to see how buyers react. I give the vintage reselling world 5 years to bust.
I spend my good money on New Balance. Their top of the line 990s and 2002r are easily worth the $200 spend because of the technology in the shoe. It's so comfortable. I buy reps of my Jordan grails like the Chicago because there is absolutely no reason for me to pay $2000 for a shoe that has 0 technology besides hard rubber and leather
I just go to Ross or some cheap store and pay like $30 for a pair. Most I paid for a shoe was at Costco for around $35-40. Shouldn’t pay more than $50 for footwear unless if you need quality boots
I wish I could get bots to like this video 1 million times such a refreshing take. Whenever I buy a pair of shoes I want it’s never with the intention of how much can I get for these later? It’s been so nice to actually be on the app at the time of the drop and actually get the goddamn shoe I want.
I don’t understand why they thought this would continue to happen/profit if people couldn’t afford them or chose to invest in the over priced silhouette
This warms my heart. I'm not a sneaker guy but resellers have ruined almost every single hobby and priced out the average person. Just trying to enjoy something that seen them get fucked is amazing.
The same thing is happening to retro video game resellers. Resellers bought up all the physical retro games. Driving up the price and creating scarcity. The people who actually wanted to play the games just end up buying repro carts, emulating, and going digital on storefronts. Nobody is paying $400 for one video game. Eventually, the bubble bursts.
I miss being able to buy a Kobe jersey for $100 and not $300 and that’s even if the Kobe jerseys are in stock now lol. I never see them in stock nowadays anywhere.

I love it!!!! You know how infuriating it is to go buy some sneakers and every time i want a specific pair they sold out? Im 40 im not making a line to buy sneakers f that
I stopped wearing fashion trainers when I turned 40 now I only wear handmade Crown Northampton trainers. They’re made with Cordovan leather (which is the best leather in the world and comes from a small area on the hind of a horse) and they have an oak cork (which takes about 5 years to produce) midsole that molulds to the shape of your foot so they’re made with the best materials available by artisan craftsmen and women and have more in common with an expensive handmade dress shoe than they do with trainers. The leather they’re made from doesn’t crease it rolls so you never get unsightly creases in the toes of them.
wow, I'm gonna look into them, for my work boots since 2014 I've been buying Scarpas Activ LS, Italian, single piece leather, no gortex, very comfy even with my foot issues.
You said it bro... sneakers app is guaranteed disappointment. I've been so upset and been put in a terrible mood so many times when I've took an L on a pair of shoes I've been wanting badly. one reason nike is making so many pairs and dropping them so often. to stop resellers

Love my work boots.
This is gold! Next up gucci & LV bags

Scalping like this is in everything. I remember the graphics cards getting this treatment when the 30 series came out from nvidia. It's just that with sneakers, the companies have been helping everything by making everything limit edition.
Not just the scalpers who destroyed affordable graphic cards, all those disgusting miners as well.
