The Arab nations are conflicted about the need to do business with the West, and the need to do something concrete about the Palestinian crisis. They also need to protect themselves from western rules based directives, ie where rules evolve arbitraily around American interests alone (see Europe as an example of what that means!) On his evaluation of Russia as an economic power, he needs to do a lot more research. Perhaps he could start by consulting the most recent World bank statistics and look into how and why Russia was able to come out of 10 years of sanctions in the shape it's in.
