1. Test them in salt water, such as the ocean. 2. Test them for as long as possible at the same safe-measured depth (one meter, right?) until they both break. 3. Test them as far down as possible before they both break. 4. Test them in chlorinated water, aka, a swimming pool. 5. Test them in hot water, such as a boiling pot and a jacuzzi. 6. Test them in frigid water. 7. Test them in soapy water. 8. Test them in dirty water.
No, just the opposite. I want to see what my $800+ smartphone is capable of withstanding and incapable of withstanding so I can avoid scenarios that will result in it being destroyed.
what bout different liquid? soy sauce, soap (windex, eco, dish, laundry, etc), wine, coke/pepsi/red bull, cooking oil/olive oil/butter, flour/cooking powder/baking mix, hot/cold water, etc. you know, real life IP58 testing. Since water interfere with the touch screen, how do you change camera settings once you're underwater? You can still take picture in the swimming pool, but can you change menu? or do Vine video (since Vine require you to press and hold the button on the screen)? Maybe the volume rocker can be used to navigate through the camera menu if it's detecting underwater. Is this xperia Z2 smart enough? or maybe software update?? Is there any underwater sensor (the phone can tell if it's submerged underwater or just water splash)?? Still sooooo many to talk about.
One thing I'd like to see tested is the temperature of the water it can handle. On one of the promotion videos for the Z2, they have a guy sitting in a bath with his Z2 imagining some artistic thing and so I'm curious how hot the water could be and conversely, how cold the water could be..
The z2 is amazing. Love the waterproof feature as most my old phones have broke from water. I airways end up accidentally dropping it in the bath tub and even the toilet(I rinse it of afterwards)
The heat issues is exclusive to 4K in my experience..I'll give it a whirl, film a 4K video and try show a timelapse till it fails. Let you know what happens :)
am aware of the 4k issue but i found people on XDA site they also complaining about normal using get overheating , such us using browsing for 15 mints temperature above 43c or chatting whatsapp or watching youtube video.. i have all these specific situations with overheating when i had my first xpera z and am worry if its all the same with the z2 ,, i really like this phone and i want to get it ,, please if someone can tell a more solid answer
Great video! I would love to see the "depth in a pool" factor. A POOL OF BEER! Okay, that might be over the top. But I am curious to see which phone can snap photos in the depths of a swimming pool.
smartphone, of course, the user must still be smart than a smartphone. The question is, whether the sensitivity of the screen can work fine / normal when we touch on the screen in an activity but our fingers or screen are wet or damp? This question must be considered when you want to buy a touch screen smartphone especially it dressing "waterproof" certification :)
I have Z2. The touchscreen works better completely submerged than being splashed, like a shower. Still, to record videos or take pics you're better to use the camera button on the side of the phone than the menu screen.
My Z2 died from 3 second pool dip, just under the surface. The screen started flickering and won't turn on after that. It happened on my first vacation day, so i'm without a phone for over a week now, and i have a feeling that my guarantee won't cover water damage on waterproof phone. All the flaps were properly covered and closed, water came in either through mic/speakers/earphones jack holes or through some invisible gap between aluminium frame and glass surfaces. Don't use this phone as a waterproof device because it's a matter of moment when it will die from water damage. It's more a matter of if you accidentally drop it in water it has more chance of survival than some other phones, but don't use it itentionally in the water.
+sta te briga ow thats sad... coz im using my Z2 for a year now... i used it for taking underwater pics and vids in a 5ft pool, beaches, lakes, rivers and still all good...
Well I love the Xperia Z2 as well :) A swimming pool test with selective focus would probably give me a better idea :) N that lady I tell you ^_^ so pretty...!
Please test it in a washing machine again but only half full...who packs their washing that tight? I want to see if the Z2 survives being bounced around without cracking!
Ha! That's funny! I hate going to the laundry mat so my washing machine always looks that full, I figured out that these ones still make my clothes very clean even if I push the limit! lol...
I'm watching this video because I accidentally drop down my galaxy S4 to the washing machine, so now I'm looking for this feature on my next phone.... and like I said, "accidentally", you shouldn't turned off the phone before putting both of them in the washing machine test...
Only test i was impressed with was washing machine. It did get a little wet inside. A good test would be how deep in the water u can go. and for how long. I have a waterproof ziplock looking bag for phones and i recorded at bottom of pool. 7-8 feet at floor . Not one drop inside. I got it on ebay for $2.
Ofcourse it wont just die off. It'll be great if you show us if there's water that leaked in since it's not completely sealed or after taking pictures or videos of the fishes take another video outside the water if everything works fine specially the speaker. Also check the earphone jack after.
How about a REAL water test, take both phones in a pool or ocean and go about 10 feet and operate them, i bet you the Xperia will be your only working phone, Garrenteed!
when i did my waterprooftest to my sony xperia Z2 today. it got fog on the blitz and the camera lens. it also was hard for people to hear what i said over the phone... what shall i do?
It's not really the ultimate test or a comparison of the waterproof capabilities of the devices unless you keep going until one of them fail and the other survives.
Just to share my experience and I know samsung didn't recommend that, But I forget my charging led open while trying to take some shots while diving and the device is completely dead, the mother board is gone and the screen as well... Cheers ;)
1) Pathetic excuse of "phone testing" in order to drinkbeer , why not try a pitcher ..they both would fit ! 2) What better washing machine to use, to try to Kill your phone, than a Dexter !!!

mkchillin ha, you so want them to fail
No, just the opposite. I want to see what my $800+ smartphone is capable of withstanding and incapable of withstanding so I can avoid scenarios that will result in it being destroyed.
I agree with this guy
Mobilegeeks.de please test all these it would be more interesting
no. this cost too much money.
So what do you guys think? Shall we just put them into the sea until one device fails?
Yes yes please dunk them in the ocean over night
what bout different liquid?
soy sauce, soap (windex, eco, dish, laundry, etc), wine, coke/pepsi/red bull, cooking oil/olive oil/butter, flour/cooking powder/baking mix, hot/cold water, etc.

redo the washing machine, but let the video record ON and outside the jacket pocket.
***** lol, this would kill them
Please do.
Love the guy getting shit faced on the name of doing a good job at work lol
Superb video! Keep up the good work Nicole and the others in MobileGeeks!
Z2 wins

How about sea water?
Awesome test... You guys rock !
Yep, I'd love to see the water proof into the sea ;)
The z2 is amazing. Love the waterproof feature as most my old phones have broke from water. I airways end up accidentally dropping it in the bath tub and even the toilet(I rinse it of afterwards)
Wintersport testing with the phone snow count as water as well
can you make a video about the heat issue with Z2 ?? many people complain about it but not many videos to proof it
The heat issues is exclusive to 4K in my experience..I'll give it a whirl, film a 4K video and try show a timelapse till it fails. Let you know what happens :)

I'll brush off my PADI diving card :)

But will it still work with headphones?
Try to answer a call with it underwater!! That's the way to do it
i gotta z2 im so grateful for it
Why did you turn them off when you put them into washing machine?!
A pool test would be great

I want see the LG google Nexus 4 in water test please :) wash and other modes :)
I did a water test on my Xperia Z2 and there were a little bit of water in the micro SD port. So that gave my camera lens a moisture.
you should do the ultimate test, leave them submerged in the deep end of a swimming pool while on for like 30 minutes
Please test it in a washing machine again but only half full...who packs their washing that tight? I want to see if the Z2 survives being bounced around without cracking!
