This is such good advice, I wish I had heard this when I started planning months ago and now I’ve had three bridesmaids drop out because, to be honest, we weren’t that close. Just wish they did it much earlier or just before I brought the dresses 😩
My wedding is a month from today and a "good" friend of mine who is supposed to be up there with me has not kept in touch with me at all and shows absolutely no interest (which completely surprises me) in trying on her dress (my Dad bought it). I have a bad feeling she is going to back out on me...and all I can say is if she does that to me I will no longer be her friend. I have made efforts to ask her when she could come over to try on the dress...last time was a week ago...she said her cat has been sick...yet she has time to go out and about and post about it. She is the only friend who lives by me...the rest love out of town and ALL of them have tried on their dresses. I didn't see this coming at all....I am tempted to reach out again but I just can't because she should get a hold of me. I am soooo disappointed. Mind you, my Mom died earlier this year and all of the planning is on me and this has been very bittersweet....I am so overwhelmed

I am in this situation i asked my brothers girlfriend to be mine they were getting married but since i got engaged after i aked her to be brides her shes been horrible to all my brothers side of the family with nothing but insults to everyone. Ive went out of my way did her hen done and everything even though i wasnt her bridesmaid. And his now wife treated my mum really awfully towards their wedding. She screamed at my mum 2 days before the wedding. And frankly im at a point were i dont want her to be my bridesmaid anymore.
Could someone explain what a “hen-do” is?

I am planning on a 12k wedding. Korean people don’t really have bridesmaids and I also don’t want to have one because my friends group is big and can’t afford it. I’d still want to get ready with them in the morning and take pics (dress not matching). Do I still have to give them gifts? Obviously it’d be nice and my friends would probably help out but I wouldn’t have a ton of money. Would 15 dollars per person be a reasonable range or is that too cheap?
You don't have to give them gifts! If you want to, then however much you can feasibly spend is enough :) the thought really is what counts

I think you’re asking a bit much of theoretical bridesmaids. They’re not hired labour, and they can’t possibly provide ALL the support you mention here. Most of it, sure, but they’re not there for the whole engagement period to help with absolutely everything. Not financially, not emotionally, not physically.
I totally get where you're coming from. I think the jumping in on diy's and planning the Bachelorette/hen-do tends to be more of a maid of honor exclusive thing. But I've seen my friend's have bridesmaids help with those things! It just depends on your relationship with them. But yeah I think typically, at least from people I've met here in the US , it's usually the maid of honor that helps the most and that stuff doesn't fall fully onto the rest of the bridesmaids. But it is nice to have that support and energy from all of them if it's needed
My daughter has asked me to be one of her Bridesmaids. And her MIL to be her Matron of Honor. (She doesn't have girlfriends). I thought it'd be ok. It's her day and all, it's all about her. We went to shop for our dresses, and it just didn't feel right. It feels disrespectful to me as her mother. Is it just me?
I can see why you feel the way you do and its abit unusual. Maybe after its said and done ask her for her reasoning /explain how you feel
I'm quite hurt my sister did not ask me...or any part whatsoever in her wedding. Not looking forward to be hounded by others why I'm not up there but I'm more upset that she does not love or value me like I thought she did. Ladies, please use caution when making your selection. I know it's your day but please have a heart.
