I know I’m late to the party…this is another reason why shovels should be on a bus for emergency gear. Maybe they are hidden compartment idk but just a great tip if they don’t.
Now Cummins took out all of the fun in the winter with all the EGR nonsense. The engines are too restrained now. You can't spin the wheels endlessly like this anymore
Has any of you ever looked at the drive tires on a bus? You will notice that they don't have any lugs for gripping the snow just a few groves that go around the circumference that do nothing for traction. Even though the weight of the engine and transmission is over the drive tires, buses still have traction problems due to poor tire design. The tires on most buses are ordered that way so they last lots of miles. What they need are those automatic chains that deploy at the touch of a switch and are retracted when not needed. Roto chains?
Get off and push? The gross weight of an Orion V CNG bus is approximately ~39,000 LB (nearly 20 tons), with additional factors such as a ~10 Degree incline, the excessive amount of snow lodged in the path of the wheels, and the little manpower (the bus don't seem too crowded either) makes it extremely difficult and even dangerous to get off and push. One should consider the factors and obstacles that are present, which ultimately determine the success of an action.
I know exactly where that is. It's that little up hill section prior to the intersection of Kissena Blvd. and Interstate 495 near Queens College. I feel bad for the passengers who had to get off at the AirTrain terminal, because it's a long, long walk from here to get there with public transit stuck all over the place.
The driver was an idiot, if he had straightened his wheels when he originally backed up after being unable to pull forward he would've had enough momentum to get him out.
Not a dumb question ... I think the gear was not in reverse at all.. the driver was trying his best to go forward but the bus rolled down the hill anyway
No I mean like when a bus or truck is reversing they go beep beep beep when they reverse so I want to know why this bus doesn’t go beep beep beep when it reverses like at 0:06 the back headlights turn on when the bus reverses but doesn’t go beep beep beep
@septafan1 You can't judge an entire transit system just by this one video of a bus driver making a mistake. But yeah, you have a better chance of not getting stuck by driving in the middle of the road.
seems odd really a big city one of the most famous in the world and it is like that Vancouver is not much better but than again we rarely have snow but we have cm in some places a few days ago
canadiancatgreen its because the infrastructure for this city was built in the 1800s. The outerboroughs in the 1930s. The amount of vehicles on the road waa much fewer back then. There are simply too many people here , and everything gets backed up
Nowadays the Cummins engines on these damn New Flyers and Novas have limiters. The Engine Control Modules nowadays won't let you spin the wheels endlessly like this Thumbs down to Cummins 🚌 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Like i said on FB he messed up when he backed up to far EPIC FAIL!!! on driving skillz we at septa know you stay in the center of the road or the bus will slide to the curb
I know I’m late to the party…this is another reason why shovels should be on a bus for emergency gear. Maybe they are hidden compartment idk but just a great tip if they don’t.
Love those Orion V CNGs.. the ring of the turbo on that Detroit Diesel series 50G engine.
TEMPLE7D ikr
@@newyorkcitytransitproducti2968 same i love Orion V CNG

Now the Orion V CNG has a 9 litre Cummins ISL-G engine, but the Detroit Diesel Série 50G is great too.
Be careful in the snow

0:12 love that acceleration.
I miss this ringing sound 0:16

even though it's stuck on snow the buses backfire sounds good
TransitFanKid ikr
I would LOVE to be on that bus staying nice and warm!!!
You would be nice and warm but would you go anywhere with that bus being stuck
I feel bad for these drivers and passengers
Ha ha ha! The sound of the tires sounds funny
True
Damn that Series 50G sounded real good!
Of ourse, what I am saying is that particular storm, nobody had chains on their buses thanks to the city sleeping on the storm
Buses do A LOT more driving than any other car on the road. snow chains would be worn down after just a few days of use
that engine sounds like a beast!

Nice four cylinder sound.
minds will walk back home and forget about going anywhere during an snow storm.

I feel bad for the q25
I agree
I know this is a dumb question but why doesn’t the bus make a beeping noise when it backs up
Not a dumb question ... I think the gear was not in reverse at all.. the driver was trying his best to go forward but the bus rolled down the hill anyway
It's hard to tell from the video but there is a bit of a hill there

@@supermarionathan1426 oooooh. Ok you are right . I dont know the answer to that then.
i’d pay money to be stuck in the snow on a V CNG idgaf
getting moving on snow with wheels straight: hard
getting moving on snow with wheels turned: impossible
When I see this bus, for some reason I think of Detroit.
Detroit diesel babyyy
This sounds like a lamborghini v10 low(low)key
What kind engine dose it have?
Detroit Diesel Series 50G, and an Allison B400R.

Nice, but that bus should really have its back up alarm turned on.
He could get out if he straighten his front wheel as it's moving little bit so all hope is not lost.
@nycgridlock For some reason , none of the MTA busses used snow chains from what I saw. I don't get it.
The guys need to let the MTA Bus to get unstuck from the snow
@DTRAVELZ Most of the time, the articulated buses use snow chains.
Orion V's are amazing
Well that's one way to end the day 😂
0:30 in love !
poor Orion
The wheels on the bus go round and round
strange that New York is not used to snow really
the infastructure here in NY is horrible

oh ok thx
@MtaBus5102 True but technically if the gears are not in reverse. how would that even be possible?
@DTRAVELZ NONE of MTA in general used snow chains!!! They slept on this storm bigtime!!!
mta orion bus are kings turbo
Just sitting there ringing god damn !
What was the number of that Orion V CNG?
@Clayson Antoons alright thanks
@nycgridlock Dude, that is 9958....
I love it
I love it
The driver sucks..
ambulance siren
somebody go help that poor bus just jet a shovel and scoop the snow so it could move again
Nowadays the Cummins engines on these damn New Flyers and Novas have limiters.

Thumbs down to Cummins 🚌
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
0:08 that screwed them all
@DTRAVELZ The bus is put in reverse at least twice, look at the reverse lights please.
Ha ha! So powerful and so helpless!
I agree with kody too
