I’m finally picking up art seriously again after 20 years. I’ve been working on a piece multiple hours a day over the last 3 weeks, sometimes 4-8 hours. Sometimes I’m happy with the little progress, sometimes I feel very discouraged. This video has helped to give me some direction and as a result some encouragement as well.
the problem is procrastination, the way to overcome it is to have a very specific goal and i think really the best practice is applied practice, if you're practicing to paint a painting then the best practice is to paint a painting. the anxiousness of it is easier managed to break down the process of it into more manageable chunks, instead of directly jumping into painting you make thumbnails and sketches you play with ideas of what you want your painting to be in very easy and manageable ideas and sizes and from there you elaborate, and oh second part is to take your time, no pressure, you don't have to do it all in one day, not even just one week, you determine how much time you want to put towards it, before you know it you will be learning and having fun experimenting and toying with ideas and improving on very specific things that you are gonna include in your painting and speed and skill will just grow over time as you spend time doing it. art is like building muscles, you won't notice the gradual shift but you will notice small wins here and there and you will have small plateus here and there aswell where you don't notice anything, the important part is not how much you're growing, it's enjoying the activity as that ensures one thing that you will need and that is having patience with yourself.
One way to overcome procrastination is analyzing "what" causes us to procrastinate. I asked myself many times and examined the times I remembered procrastinating the most. What I discovered is that when things get very difficult, I want to lay down the pencil and play games or something else. However, I also found that if I focus on another part of the drawing that I feel I can draw easier, I can continue on. But yeah, the anxiety makes it difficult to continue and I'm not always successful, so I agree that it's best to take your time, and not give ourselves too much pressure.
Im not quick to subscribe to channels but this one made me hit the subscribe button after watching the video, i looked through your playlist and im glad they werent some long drawn out tutorials, these were simple, straight to the point and easy to understand, tried your bean method in my practice and it made me facepalm myself 5 times, like why didnt i try this earlier? Now im creating poses much easier and they dont feel stiff like my previous sketches where i used tons of construction shapes and lines😅. I aspire to be an artist in the gaming industry as well and im glad to find someone who works in the industry who does character designs, ill keep up to date with your channel man, cheers from 🇯🇲❤
Don't give up, you got this! I studied anatomy for months too. It was difficult, probably the most difficult for me tbh but later on it will be easier!

Hey man, I think your art is really nice, I really want to draw like that but I don’t know how to start. I don’t have anyone on hand to teach me and to be honest I am afraid that no matter how hard I try I will never be that good, what should I do to start? It’s hard for me to keep myself motivated when there is no visible progress in a relatively short period of time so I get disheartened. I want to do digital art like this but f on what I saw it looks like all the equipment is really expensive, and I have like 10$ to my name because everything I make goes to paying bills. I will take any advice I can get, and if you ever read this then I would like to draw anime just like you so if you decide to say something to me then I’d really like to know how to do it in a way that would potentially make me improve quickly. (Sorry, I know there is no easy way for things like this… I am just afraid of putting my limited time and non existent money into something that might never happen… I hope you know what I mean, that is why I’m asking.)
