When I was a child, we watched "The Ed Sullivan Show." One night The Association played, and I remembered thinking to myself, Hey! That guy's Filipino. Like me. Thanks, Larry Ramos, and the other members of The Association. So many beautiful songs you gave us.
The guy behind some of my favorite songs. I remember seeing the Association on TV and noting, hey, there's an Asian guy, very rare back then. I married a Filipina a long time later and gained an interest in all things Philippines, a very unappreciated part of the world. I remembered Larry, and God bless, I'm here again to dig his magic. Thanks.
I remember these songs from the Association back in1968-1969. On my way to Vietnam with the USMC. Danny on GUN SIX in I Corps Vietnam. As a gunner on a 105mm howitzer gun crew . in I Corps. Just another day in the Nam.
Looking through the pictures, I noticed that Larry Ramos is smiling in most of them - that would be difficult to do when your job keeps you on the road, performing for your fans. I hope that he was as happy with his life as he appeared to be!! Thank you, Larry!!
One of the great ,prominent band singers of The Association ever to me. Mr Larry Ramos had left his beautiful, sweet singing voices for the songs like Windy, Cherish, and Never My Love to us. Thank you very much Larry. You're still alive in our heart.
Thank you / Mahalo / Salamat for this tribute to Larry Ramos, the first Asian American to win a Grammy with the New Christy Minstrels in 1963 before joining The Association 🤙🏽🎶❤️
I grew up listening to “Windy” as a kid and has been one of my favorite songs since. I never knew the lead guitar and main singers was Filipino let alone from Hawaiʻi. Super cool to find out 🤙🏽
Larry was part of the magnificent west coast band- The Association. The band that thrilled me in the sixties and made my life so wonderful. In my opinion the Association were one of the best bands ever and certainly deserved the title that some music critics gave them in 1967 after the release of their superb "Insight Out" as The American Beatles. Many many thanks for posting this video selection. I hope that Larry will be pleased as I feel sure he will be looking down from the after life planes and the music of the Association together with his memory will be remembered always by those who admired and loved him in life and those who appreciated good music. Best Wishes and once again many thanks, Tony
Thanks for sharing this video. I didn't realize that Larry Ramos had a Filipino heritage until I read his obituary. Yes, his singing style was fantastic especially when he sang Windy and Never My Love. These two songs were released during my senior high school days, and I considered these comparable to the Beatles songs, great melody and catchy tune. To keep me awake during the wee hours of studying for the Certified Public Accountant examination, I constantly listened to these two and other great songs during that time, like the Seekers' Georgy Girl. The Association's greatest hits are in my iPhone for listening pleasure.
I have always enjoyed Larry Ramos and the Association. Been lucky enough to see him, Russ, Jules, and Jim a few times at the Happy Together Tour. What a remarkable talent they are. Miss you Larry and RIP.
im still young but,i really love this group The Association.....wow the laid guitarist and vocals is a pinoy....thank u so much Sir Larry Ramos for ur songs....u will always be remembered on your contribution of music ..ur such a great musician Rest in Peace w/ the Lord🙏💖😢🇵🇭
I remember the sound of the classic Associations growing up but never looked into them much till now. Wow, what a band! Very impressed with lead vocals and harmonies. I think that I will try and arrange a song or two and incorporate into my set list. What a challenge! Ok, Go!
I remember him in England as a kid, in the 60s, I realized he was different from the group, from a different nation from my child's perspective, I loved their association then, and now, I look at what they did, Larry Ramos within The Association, Thank You
I didn't even know he had passed. This is June, 2022. The Hawaiian was the cute one in the Association, and had probably the best n most well controlled voice of all of them..Aloha, Larry Ramos. Surely they miss you terribly.
One of the most under appreciated voices of the sixties. During my decade as Morning Radio Personality on KOOL 94.5 Phoenix, Larry and his drop dead gorgeous daughter came in to be a guest on my radio show and feature his terrific work on classics like my all time favorite "Windy" as well as "Cherish" just to name a few. A wonderful gentleman who made a bigger mark on rock and roll than most folks ever know with his great work. And watching his performances here on You Tube, you'll notice he was rarely without that great smile too. Thanks Larry!
This was a great tribute to Larry....I am flattered that the producer/editor used one of the pics I took of Larry at Suncoast Casino in Las Vegas several years ago.
Larry....we'll see you on the other side, when that time comes. Meanwhile, we'll keep the porch light on at this side! Thanks for influencing my childhood...I sing at our Sunday services and remember The Associations harmonies!
I never got to speak to Larry but I did chat with brother Del. He was mixing the band at the Hampton Casino - a part of Dick Clark's 20th year celebration. When Larry introduced the band members - only Russ and himself were from the original members on stage but said Del was mixing the band from mid-hall and he was singing one of the six parts since only five guys appeared on stage. I walked up to Del, watched him mix the rest of the show from 5 feet away and talked his ear off after the show. And THEY were ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Cherish will always afflict me, and their own favorite was "Never My Love." Yes, RIP dear Larry Ramos - your voice was awe-mighty-perfect.
What a tremendous loss . A very special soul with infinite talent and a dedication to his craft. I will miss him. The Association was one of the most impressive groups of the decade. Fabulous, first class, music....
So sorry Larry has gone, but his considerable musical legacy, paticularly wih the Association, will live on as long as people appreciate brilliant music from great musicians. Lovely tribute - thanks for posting.
When I was a very little kid I remember hearing Windy on the radio (way back in the 60's) and it is the only song that ever made me remind me of myself. I love the tune Goodbye Colombus the best from this group however. Such nice music. I love this stuff.
That's sad that ones are gone. I'm only just discovering the band after hearing a few songs I remembered as a kid. I think how could I have missed such a lot of great songs when growing up? I find them quite uplifting.
That was a beautiful tribute to Larry Ramos. I was able to meet him in Hawaii a short time back. I loved his music and and his personal. He will be missed . May God take care of him in heaven and may he play his music for the heavens to hear.
When I heard that Larry Ramos died I Googled his name. Nothing was mentioned on the passing of a man who sang "Never My Love", one of the top five songs, in number of plays on the radio, of all time.
Well let see, maybe Kirk Hammett of Metallica or Shugie Otis of Strawberry Letter 23 or Arnel Pineda of Journey or Bruno Mars or H.E.R. or Joe Bataan or etc.......
My neighbor across the street (Robert) had a machine shop. He also machined some custom car parts. Robert was restoring a his 65 Mustang in his garage and I was restoring two vintage 60's motorcycles in my garage. One day I looked and he had several guys in his garage looking at his Mustang. One of the guys was Larry Ramos. After they left I walked over to Robert and asked, Wasn't that Larry Ramos from The Association? He said yes, he stops by once in a while....This was about 2000 or 2001.
Skyler Thompson I always wondered what happened to Richard Thompson. I knew he died (not sure when). He couldn't have been that old. I assume he was born around the same time as Larry.
The photo at 30s is a significant photo that includes Larry and the Beatles, Gene Pitney and some others plus who appears to be the Knickerbockers singer right next to him, who some say sounded like Lennon on their song called Lies.
That's the circa-1964 New Christy Minstrels. I see Paul Potash, Art Podell, Nick Woods, Barry McGuire, Clarence Treat, Karen Gunderson, Barry Kane, along with The Beatles and Larry Ramos. Oddly, no Anne White.
Beautiful tribute to an outstanding singer, & musician Mr. Hilario (Larry) Ramos. R.I.P.
`I had the good fortune and honor to meet Larry in 2003 (or so). He was a very nice guy. Very gracious.
When I was a child, we watched "The Ed Sullivan Show." One night The Association played, and I remembered thinking to myself, Hey! That guy's Filipino. Like me.
Thanks, Larry Ramos, and the other members of The Association. So many beautiful songs you gave us.

I married a Filipina a long time later and gained an interest in all things Philippines, a very unappreciated part of the world. I remembered Larry, and God bless, I'm here again to dig his magic. Thanks.
The Associations were so popular during my middle school days ( in the 60’s). God bless them all and thanks for the wonderful music.
I remember these songs from the Association back in1968-1969. On my way to Vietnam with the USMC. Danny on GUN SIX in I Corps Vietnam. As a gunner on a 105mm howitzer gun crew . in I Corps. Just another day in the Nam.
Put The Association in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already!
Looking through the pictures, I noticed that Larry Ramos is smiling in most of them - that would be difficult to do when your job keeps you on the road, performing for your fans. I hope that he was as happy with his life as he appeared to be!! Thank you, Larry!!
Im a hard rock and heavy metal fan but Birthday is one of my favorite albums of all time.
This is cool. I always liked Larry Ramos because he smiled so big and nice through every performance
Such a beautiful tribute to Larry and the fun days of our youth.
RIP
As a non-original member, Larry Ramos was a key member of the Association.
Lovely man. What a smile! Bless your sweet memory.
One of the great ,prominent band singers of The Association ever to me. Mr Larry Ramos had left his beautiful, sweet singing voices for the songs like Windy, Cherish, and Never My Love to us. Thank you very much Larry. You're still alive in our heart.
+cheekeong ho And most of the rest of the songs of this band too.
hans v.essen, he wasn't even with the band when "Cherish" was recorded.
Thank you / Mahalo / Salamat for this tribute to Larry Ramos, the first Asian American to win a Grammy with the New Christy Minstrels in 1963 before joining The Association 🤙🏽🎶❤️
Wonderful Tribute!!!! I saw Larry with The New Christie Minstrels in London, Ontario in 1963! Barrie McGuire introduced him fondly, as "Pineapple"!
I grew up listening to “Windy” as a kid and has been one of my favorite songs since. I never knew the lead guitar and main singers was Filipino let alone from Hawaiʻi. Super cool to find out 🤙🏽
Larry makes me more proud to be Filipino than Manny.
My older sisters had a 45 record of this song used to play it all the time.
RIP Larry Ramos
1 of the fellows picked me up hitchhiking in S.Kona in the 90s ..I don't think it was Larry..though I cannot recall who it was. Going to ocean view.
Ditto, on "Windy"!!!!!
I am glad I knew this band. Thank you for the beautiful songs. Thanks Kabayan...
Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭

Who the hell downvotes a video like this? Anyway, love the Association and it won't be the same without him. Goodnight 2020.
There are @$$holes everywhere whose int goal is to annoy others.. Rock on.
He seemed like such a beautiful soul, and I’m sure he was. It just came across in his presence and delivery on stage. Loved his performances. ❤
Larry also had some killer expressive eyebrows!
What a beautiful tribute to the incredibly talented Larry Ramos! His voice was truly a gift from heaven. He will be greatly missed.
Saw them at Notre Dame in '70. Flawless performance. Truly all Amercan.
Saw them at UNA (North Alabama) in 69 or 70. One of the most impressive live bands I have seen to this day.
Beautiful memories Thank You for this walk on the life of this great band..
I have always enjoyed Larry Ramos and the Association. Been lucky enough to see him, Russ, Jules, and Jim a few times at the Happy Together Tour. What a remarkable talent they are. Miss you Larry and RIP.

There must be something seriously wrong with those people who gave this video the thumbs down; it's disrespectful !
I had no idea Larry Ramos sang lead on these incredible songs. Great vocalist!
He was destined to be great. RIP Larry Ramos.
I remember the sound of the classic Associations growing up but never looked into them much till now. Wow, what a band! Very impressed with lead vocals and harmonies. I think that I will try and arrange a song or two and incorporate into my set list. What a challenge! Ok, Go!
I'm sad but I'm glad I finally got to know you Larry,I know it's corny but you made us Cherish the Association that much more 🤗🤗🤗

Such a wonderful group and lovely-beautiful songs that they speak to the heart .

As of 2021 only two of the original band have died -- Brian Cole in 1972 and Larry Ramos in 2014.
@@marks.3303 If you hadn't set them straight, I would have!! Thanks!
That was a beautiful tribute to Larry Ramos. I was able to meet him in Hawaii a short time back. I loved his music and and his personal. He will be missed . May God take care of him in heaven and may he play his music for the heavens to hear.

Beautiful video. He will be sadly missed. The Association taught me that life can be beautiful.
When I heard that Larry Ramos died I Googled his name. Nothing was mentioned on the passing of a man who sang "Never My Love", one of the top five songs, in number of plays on the radio, of all time.
I believe Never My Love is number 2 all-time in airplay as of 2022.
What an excellent medley of songs. Sad that Larry died. It's coming 5 years as I type. This makes me want to hear more of their music. So uplifting.
QUE BUENA MUSICA , JUNTO A MEJORES RECUERDOS. QUE MAS SE PUEDE PEDIR.
Just found out the news about him. Going to miss him for sure. Rest in peace.
Greatest Filipino musician of all time, just one accolade of many others. That fact seldom mentioned, but true.
Larry was Hawaiian
Hawaiian born of Filipino heritage, hence “Ramos” . All good.
@@lucysanjuan2050 Hawaiian made him American
Yes, Pinoy roots made him American of Filipino heritage, both equally notable grants us that much more deserved notoriety.
Well let see, maybe Kirk Hammett of Metallica or Shugie Otis of Strawberry Letter 23 or Arnel Pineda of Journey or Bruno Mars or H.E.R. or Joe Bataan or etc.......
