- Oh my gosh. What a fun day with just one camera and one lens! I just realized that THIS is 100% my favorite Fujfilm lens. I will fight you.
ALL THE IMAGES IN THIS VIDEO WERE jpegs slightly tweaked in exposure. Provia film simulation. One (the bike table ) got a tiny film curve. Some got vibrance. Some highlights down. No preset packs. :)
There's a LOT of buying advice out there, but seriously, this lens needs to be in your Fujifilm kit. In this video we spend a little time in Clinton, NJ and some in my office lol.

Even if I didn’t love taking pictures, which I do, and even if I didn’t shoot Fuji, which I do, I would still watch all your videos. Just because you rock!
Me too! 🙋♂️
Truth
I might
Get this after watching you. Thanks a lot seems like a great lens love Fuji. ❤️
Amen
Also I just really wanted to add that I LOVE how you being so transparent and unambiguous with your opinion, for a person who has a lot of trouble with decision making, you are the lifesaver!!
This is literally the first lens I got when I started using Fuji: an X-T2 and a 35 f/2. The gateway drug from hell. I don't even own a full frame body anymore...
When I bought my first Fujifilm camera last june I was wondering which lens to choose. After many and careful considerations I decided to skip the standard 18-55mm and go for the 35mm F2 instead. What a wonderful lens this is! It's small, lightweight, good resolution and maybe the most important of all it doesn't break the bank.Always had a sweet spot for 50-ish mm lenses because of size/weight, viewing angle and versatility and this fits neatly in. Also did some cropping on insects and it looks great! Great video Omar!
man... I love your humour. It really makes your videos special and you have found a good balance between fun and informative. Thanks, Omar and best wishes to you and family.
Great video again my friend. I use the 35 1.4 in a similar fashion. I have primes and zooms. But the primes bring the best results with greater effort and keep me honest! I agree the 18-55 is a go to and I cannot fault it. But the soul if the 35mm f1.4 inspires me. Keep up the great work 😉👍🏻
The 35mm f2 is my fav all-around prime lens. Snappy af, beautiful contrast and color, wonderful bokeh, WR, and solid sharpness. This "nifty fifty" focal length is just such a joy to shoot and so amazingly versatile. Love this lens!
2 years ago, I bought the X-T2 with the 35mm f/2 prime to your credit. I've never regretted it! So cool to see your videos evolve over these past few years but to see your opinion hasn't changed at all regarding the f/2. Keep up the great work, Omar!
The 35 f2 was my first Fuji prime lens as well. I traded it for the 35 1.4 recently after 2 and half years of usage. I now understand that 35 1.4 "magic" but the AF difference has been noticeable for me even with the XT-3.
Can't go wrong with the 35 f2 as a first prime, the focal length is also so versatile especially when one is just starting and learning about photography.
Great video as always Omar!
Awesome video as always Omar!
Thanks for sharing - hope you and your fam are staying safe out there!
Love this lens Omar, I have owned it since it’s debut. I also have the 16/1.4 and that is amazing, but 35/2WR my absolute favourite for value and quality. It has such nice contrast, close up performance and sharp sharp sharp. Lovely Bokeh, Quick and quiet.
That was the first Fuji prime I purchased, and 9 lenses later, it and the 16 1.4 are the two that I would never let go. Another great video, Omar. Thank you.
I have the 35mm 1.4. And I LOVE it! You have inspired me to go out and shoot again. Been awhile bc of all the Covid-19 craziness. Thank you for this video!
Your videos really interested me. I always was curious to start photography as a hobby and you helped me take the first step. I just bought my very first camera, the xt20, and i will try to understand how things goes !
Thanks for amazing content and such a positive energy !
Love your channel! I’m just starting to look for my first prime lens and this was a huge help in making that decision.
X-T1 and the 35mm is my walkabout combo. thanks for the effort and the sharing. good to see you masked up. we NEED you healthy. stay well!
Omar I have to say I am absolutely in love with your videos. I know this is a little old video but it popped up in my feed as I just purchased an XT5 with the 35mm f2 prime, so youtube probably did its algorithm thing. You are absolutely hilarous, truly a pleasure to watch and learn so much from and I'm really glad I went with this lens even before seeing you recommend it on this video as well! It only assures me that I've made the right choice.
Love from Israel!
Omar, love your channel. When I have had a bad day and need cheering up I watch your channel
A perfect all p-arounder first prime!! Tiny size, super fast, close focus, ....wait you said all that. Love it!
This what I ordered with my x-t2. It’s definitely a great prime. I took sweet pics of my kids at an indoor water park. Getting wet with the weather seal is no problem.
As always, a super relaxed video to watch. Agreed, the 35 is a great allrounder to take with you. Did a beach shoot last weekend only carrying the E3 with 35 for environmental shots and the 60 for portrets. Joined with Godox 350 for fill flash it all fits in the PD 5l sling bag... light traveling giving lots of possibilities
Hello Omar: I own this lens and agree with you 100%. I like to carry a camera when I am out bicycling. I combine the 35 mm, f/2, with my X-T1 and carry it in a Traffic 24/7 sling bag. There is a Lance wrist strap, a Lensmate thumb rest and a Meike medium hand grip on the camera. The bag protects the camera and still provides quick access. The bicycle moves fast enough to cover a lot ground, yet slow enough that I can see everything. My typical ride is about 30 miles in length and takes about 2.5 hours. Every bike ride is an adventure and something unexpected usually happens. 4 years ago I good photo of a Bear Cub.
I just bought the xt-4 and I am enjoying your channel. Keep up the great work.
I bought a 35mm f2 over a year ago and it’s been on my camera since then. I absolutely love it! 😀
It's always a pleasure to look at your videos, Omar. And i love the 35mm F2 as well. I grab it Yesterday for a nice children photo shooting at the beach.
i've got the xc 35 f2, with a xs10. Here in brazil the fujifilm price is huge, so i've chosen just 1 prime and a entry level camera. Really happy with my first lens.
It was the first Fuji prime I purchased and I’ve now coupled it with my new XT-4 and it’s quickly becoming a go-to favourite - especially for my candid portraits. Happy it was your choice.
My first Fuji lens I purchased back when the X-E1 was new is the XF35mm f1.4. It's considerably slower/noisier focusing but it has a magical rendering. I now also own the f/2 version and it ends up being my everyday run-n-gun lens when I go out and about if I want that 50mm FF equiv.
Thanks Omar. I get all angsty when trying to decide among 23, 35, f1.4, f2. But you’re about the only person whose advice I listen to these days. I practically broke the “add to cart” click speed barrier when you recommended the Zonlai 22mm, and that little manual lens is fun to use. Looks like 35 f2 will be my next purchase.
Got the 35mm f2 with x-e1 used several years ago as my first Fuji. Loved the combo. Multiple cameras and lenses of all sorts have come and gone since then, but the 35mm f2 remains. Just received my x-t3 yesterday and that is my setup. I have a couple other lenses but that is my favorite setup. Weather resistant also. Really, if I could put pretty much everything the x-t3 is into the shape of the x-e1 I had (but with a better grip than either). = near perfection. Thanks for your quality videos and quality persona. Love watching it all.
Forgot to mention that my only real gripe is that the close focus distance could be a lot closer
I love the 23mm F2 it’s perfect for me and my style of shooting. My secondary lens is the 16mm F2.8. Those two work well for my needs.
New user of xt3 and I chose this lens, so glad to hear from an expert that I chose right. Thank you
YES!! I use the 35mm for EVERYTHING, and I almost never used again the 18-55mm that came with my xt-20.
I mostly take street snaps and it's a little bit challenging to shoot landscapes, but I love the outcome better than with a wider lens.
I made myself a nice gift by buying the f1.4 one and I'll probably be eternally in love with it 😆😍
It's the 2nd time I've bought this lens. I sold it once because I have the Mitakon but you are right. It is a perfect balance of size, weight, sharpness, and bokeh. I'm downsizing my Fuji lenses to the Fujicrons. Great lenses!
i could not agree with you more, it's a great 'stay on your camera permanently' lens Excellent video showed how versatile this lens is in the hands of a skillful photographer. Stay safe Omar & thank you 😎
Great video Omar. I purchased the XC version of the 35mm f2 a few months ago. It doesn't have the build quality of yours, of course, but I'm told the optical quality is the same and it was a bit less expensive, so very pleased.
Finally someone is not using the phrase:
"It depends!" 😅
Again a great video Omar! Always click like within the first few seconds! 👍
Love your videos Omar, or is it Jim !!! carry on the great work. Rob
The 35 f2 was the first prime I bought for my XT-20 Absolutely agree. Nice video. Great music selection
I’ve been shooting with the 56mm 1.2 for a while now and it’s probably been my Fuji gateway drug. You’ve definitely helped me decided on my next lens! Now just to wait till the xt3 comes down in price on the second hand market, I’m still rocking the xt20
Thanks Omar for this valuable opinion. I will be looking for my first prime lens at some point for my brand new X-S10 . You're a great down to earth funny guy and I love watching your videos! :)
I love this 35mm F2 and it was my first prime ... and my favorite! Great video and pics. I use it on my X-T30
I started Fuji with an XT-1 and the 35mm f2. It’s a great combo. I don’t own any other Fuji lenses but I do own an original X100 that I still use and it is great too. The XT-1 works great for me as well and I don’t feel the need to upgrade.
Hi Omar! That was indeed my first fuji prime (after the rokinon 12mm) and I absolutely love it, it has happen a los of days without beeing changed in my camera!
Agreed !!! This the best lens to own. Fast, sharp, weather sealed, perfect !
The 35mm f2 was my first Fuji lens. I use it often around the house and garden. When I go out for landscape or astro I use the 16mm f2.8 or the Zeiss 12mm f2.8.
Yep! First prime lens for Fuji after my purchase of my XT-10 5 years ago with the 18-55 kit! Happy then... happy now which is 80% most of the time on my XT3 😊
Good advice as always Omar--thank-you I will add this to my 1st Fuji prime -- Thank-you
Such an inspiring video. The weather is finally starting to cool down enough to go outside and shoot with my 35mm!
Done....bought it today as my first entry into ILC along with a X-T20 based on your recommendations Oscar !
nice video, as usual. i suppose the 23 and the 35 f2's are both great. Your decision should be based on what you prefer taking pics of i suppose. So if you do more portrait than landscape - 35mm and if its more landscape than portrait then 23mm. They are so similar in price, size weather sealing, focus speed and stuff. Neither will disappoint.
I own a few primes but my first two were the 23 and 35. I totally agree with you especially the 35 it's the most versatile lens I have second to my 16-55 (which I love but it's massive).
Ok you’ve persuaded me. Here goes press buy, my first lens and many thanks you’ve made the choice easy. Cannot wait
You my friend, are so entertaining to watch! Just love it. Stay safe! Regards, Pär from Sweden
Hands down loved trying out the 35mm f2 when I got the xt3. I did a portrait shoot with it and also the 56mm 1.2. I barely used the 56. The 35mm was mostly on my camera body. It was great!
Just happen to stumble upon your video. I was an avid amateur photographer many years ago and have the itch to get back into the game. I own a Nikon which is outdated and purchased the Fuji XT3. It's actually arriving in the mail today. I'm learning a lot from watching your videos and it's even more fun to watch because you are hilarious! We frequent the historic town of Clinton that you were in and it's a beautiful place to visit. Subscribed!!
Thanks! Looking into a new system. This lens looks great.
For me the 27 2.8 does the trick. It's the perfect spot between the wideness of the 23 and the sharpness of the 35. Mu only complain is the slow focus mechanism
And that you can’t focus really close...
it’s my favorite too.
@@fernieto84 The 27mm works rather well with extension tubes.
Just ordered the XF35 f2. Will be a good addition to my 16-80 f4 in low light situations. Thanks for the recommendation.
Just happened on this video today. As I listen to the first part, I truly expected you would pick the 23mm f2 over the 35mm. I was totally surprised when you picked the 35mm. After having a pair of X100S bodies (one with the WCL and one with the TCL), I had reached the point where I wanted to settle for one focal length and was exasperated with the leaf shutter speed restrictions on the X100S. I love having the capability to shoot wide open (something I did a lot when working for a small newspaper). I have decided on the X-Pro2 with the 35mm F2 with the X-T2 possible (costs). Now let me finish listening to the rest of the video.
50mm (FF equivalent) has always been considered the most versatile prime focal length, so a 30ish APS-C lens makes sense. Personally I went with the Zeiss Touit 32/1.8 for higher IQ and character. It hardly leaves my XT4.
watched this video -> ordered the lens :-) Thank you Omar!
Great video. I've been bouncing back and forth between the 35mm and the 23mm. Since I have an x100f that kinda covers the 23mm range, I was thinking about the 35mm. I think you sold me. I got the 16-80 zoom with the X-T3 as part of the kit, but I need a prime.
this video is why I subscribed. like way back in 2020. now I'm here again cuz it's 3 am and RUclips thinks it's time for a rewatch.
Coincidentally that's what I took out on my after-work walk today (on the X-H1). It's my go-to when I want to travel light and be able to shoot almost anything.
XC 35mm F2 is my first kit lens and also my first prime lens 👌🏻It perfectly fits into my X-T30!
Nice to see NJ on the Tube. Hiking XT-3, 18-55. Thumbs Up Mr. Omar.
Love your videos, LOVE your energy!! :)
This may be the video that convinces me to get the 35mm prime. But I'm going with the XC version since apparently it is optically identical to its XF brethren. Plus I already have the XF18-55 f2.8-4 lens and the underrated XC15-45 kit lens. Going to pair it with the X-T200 and the X-S10.
And of course, thank you for your very informative videos.
Hello Omar, thanks a lot for your spirit and mindset I always enjoy watching your videos whatever the subject is! I bought the xt3 with the kit lens and the 35mm f.14 and I just love it even with its flaws. I tend to use it on MF lately for streetphotography and damn... it's good! All that said I bought my daughter a xt20 for her birthday (never too soon to convert the next generation with Fuji love) and will get her 35mm f2 to start...
I chose 90mm f2 over 56 1.2 for portrait photography. I love the compression and sharpness, plus the almost silent AF. Fuji needs to update their lenses with LM motors…or Sigma has to come out with some good lenses. I am waiting on a 33mm f1.4 wr lm ois. I am rewatching old videos from your channel:))..
Loving your channel and your way of reviewing with some comedy. Everyone can use a good laugh right now in this pandemic. I am trying to get into Fuji mirror less system and buying XT4. This is just hobby and looking to learn few tricks and tips so when world opens back up for travel, I can be READY. Looking to get two to three must have lenses for beginner. Something I can take with me when walking around like ROME - taking pics of streets, people, buildings, etc. Looks like 16-80mm F4 is my choice for that. Seems like everyone is loving 16 mm F1.4 as more of wide lens so will look into that. Just need to figure out what Prime lens worth getting - 23 vs 35 vs 50 F2 vs 50 1.2.
Omar, great video again. The reason why i use the 35 mm F2 is the colour rendition. It must be the chemistry with the X-T20 shooting velvia JPEGs but the solidity and richness of the colours isn't matched by any of my other lenses (the kit zoom, xf16 f2.8, Xf 27 f2.8).
Completely agree with you Omar, it was the first prime that I got, now I got lazy and I walk around with the XF 16-80 and the XF 55-200, both on the X-T4 (but one at a the time LOL). BTW, very nice photos. Stay safe.
I just picked on up yesterday. I’m new to shooting. I went all out and got the XT-4 with the 16-80 kit lens. Slowly will get more lenses but i love the camera
Phew! Relief! Already have it and love it. Thanks.
I purchased the X-T30 with the 18-55 and I plan to get a prime soon. I thought about the 23mm and the 35mm. After seeing your video, I think I will try the 35mm first. Thanks Omar. I love your videos and I appreciate your honesty on why you like the lens or cameras or any photo gear. My decisions are based on how I like to shoot but your insight and information is very helpful.
@@JoeHan268 Yes. I love it!
Thanks alot. Pondering whether to go with a Fuji XT2 with which "first" lens...Stumble onto this video and will definitely take the step
I just started following you (as I am in the market to pick up a used Fujifilm weather sealed camera) and it was interesting, because I already knew the answer (for me) and I was curious to see what you were going to say. I quite agree. I am impressed by your approach and knowledge.
The 35 f2 was my first prime lens, too. Greetings from Germany
I had a 35mm f/1.4 before I even had a Fuji camera. I love it, even with its little eccentricities. And I never do video.
Thanks Omar. The kit lens is adequate for most shooting. However as an ex Nikon lug, I have various lenses I use in Manual mode on the xt3. Here is the kicker, a small manufacture is promising a completely new auto focus adapter for Nikon lenses. They have the prototype. I will wait to see if they function at a decent level before selling my collection of lenses. Thanks again.
You entertain and inform! Thank you!
Just picked up a fujifilm XT1 today in beautiful I owner condition. Thanks for this , was wondering what lens to get .Now I know. Really looking forward to using my used XT1.
I liked your bugs censured! So funny!!! 😁
Me: "I need a new lens!"
Wallet:" No. You don't."
Yes you do. You only go 'round once.
There is Black Fryday soon... fuck the wallet :-)
Black Friday.
Me: "I
Wallet: "NO."
After watching your previous videos and also considering my budget I got Fujinon XC 35mm F2. And It works great!
For me the xf 35 mm 1.4 is the best and Magic!
Omar, amazing video, interesting angle of thinking about a photography.
Omar thank you for helping me pick my prime :)
Your videos are just fantastic, everytime :)
Another great video. Plan on driving to Clinton later this summer. I flipped a coin to decide between the 23 and 35 f2s. Heads - I bought the 23. Great lens for street and urban landscape photography.
Hi Omar. I like your style, so I just subscribed. I like my Fuji's too. And now I know what first prime to buy.
Just got mine in and yeah, it's a beast.
I just got this lens to sit between my 10-24, 16 f1.4 and 55-200 on my X-T3. It is a stunner.
Love this lens. I think a 35mm forces you to get a little more creative and intentional with your framing than a 23mm especially when you are indoors.
I’ve been using the 35 f1.4 on a book project that’s all square Acros photos. I’ve come to really like that lens. Great video, Omar!
The 35mm f1.4 is my favorite too. Love the vintage look you get at 1.4 and it’s tack sharp and super contrasty at f8
@@paulthomas8986 It's also not much heavier than the f2.0
@@paulthomas8986 Yes lovely vintage Chromatic aberrations at wide open :) hope there will be mark II soon.
When the X-T2 came out I bought this lens with it. Went to Japan (it was a once in a lifetime trip back then) with that combination and it was a liberation. No lens changes, zooming in or out or any thoughts and energy wasted on what to use... Of course there were a few moments I wish I had a bit of a variety, but for 5 photos or so it's not worth it to carry some extra lenses - just to end up with the same picture of the Great Buddha in Nara like many.
My back and neck were very happy.
Nowadays, I would probably get the XC version of it. Because same quality, it's lighter and I don't really need WR. Or it's a great choice for someone who barely uses that focal length but want to have that for 'just in case' without spending that much.
Agree. The 35 is a great all rounder. Currently my set up is the 35 f2, 18 f2 and a 7,5 7Artisans.
Great points you are spot on! I use to travel with 35mm (~50mm apsc) only and proportions was very imortant to me...but for some wider shots it is little bit narow...but I skip 23 and got 16 😁
