  • I try not make to my videos to long, therefore much of the footage doesn't used. So I decided to make two videos for my projects. One where I show a quick bild part and the demonstration and the other video will be a more detailed build video.

    Cool. Next time go to a butcher shop and buy some kind of cheap meat piece, to see how the cast piece will work against flesh tissue.

    Is there a reason why @ 1:02 you made the metal flow into the hole rather than directly pour it into it?

    • @loooool4765
      @loooool4765 7 лет назад +2

      Im not 100% sure, but i would think he is casting the metal this way to prevent air bubbles, due to the indirct cast the alumium flows at an slower rate into the mold, which prevents airbubbles from being trapped in the club and lowering the durability

    • @AbeGalinsky
      @AbeGalinsky 7 лет назад +1

      The term for the hole is "Riser". It is often used in casting as a "feed" for the mold, giving you an idea as to when your mold is full of metal, because at that point the riser will begin to fill much faster. It has many other properties such as decreasing "turbulence" (The coolest metal is the first drop poured and the hottest is the last drop. So if you have turbulence you will end up with pits and voids as the solidifying metal rolls back behind he hotter metal, and you don't want that). It can be used as a vent hole for gases trapped in the casting process as well. It's main use is as the much more stable feed for the mold though. This is also why patterns and molds should be designed to have as flat a plane as possible for the metal to travel, to reduce turbulence. Porosity is not your friend. Anything to bring up the quality of the finished casting will make your part better and stronger and easier to work with during final machining and finishing.
