All I have ever wanted from a Black Metal one man band is in this album. Layers of sounds, mixed textures, folk settings, classical black metal rifs, mysterious ballads and a dark soul journey.
+Hermetic Kitten what? aside from opinions, what is there to be astounded by? This is some of the most mediocre black metal I've ever heard. I'd rather listen to Ulver and Saor than ever listen to Myrkur. The production basically fucking plagiarizes Bergtatt in spots. What the fuck is a 'dark soul journey'
+sgtzero1337 1. Aside from opinions? What you said is an opinion. 2. Do you know who the producer is? I suspect you do but if you don't you may end up surprised.
This album was produced by Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver, and featured Teloch of Mayhem and Nidingr on guitars, with Øyvind Myrvoll of Nidingr and Dodheimsgard on drums. So not too strange it sounds like it guys!
She is a true artist, bringing a long needed and refreshing wind of change in the BM genre and community. There is a feral sound to it, which actually makes Myrkur closer to the real origins of BM, rather than those who think only about blood, Satan, violence, and having the shittiest disto possible.
I saw her yesterday live opening for Behemoth and she is really talented. I mean she plays instruments and she has a potent voice (clean and growling) and she had a nice stage image. It's stupid to point out the fact that she is being heavily influenced by Ulver, Agalloch or Alcest as a bad thing, especially in a music scene where being influenced by other more experienced bands is commonplace. Imagine if Emperor or even Ulver were fazed by people like you when they were experimenting with black metal, we wouldn't have two of the best metal acts of all time. Or even Bathory or Venom wouldn't be the same if they weren't heavily influenced by Motorhead and it goes on and on. Just look at the potential people, and don't keep a closed mind because black metal wouldn't be where it is if people didn't experiment with it along the way. And if you think she's a "poser" because the image she is selling, don't forget how black metal started in the first place, with few exceptions it was all an image to keep it away from the mainstream. The only difference between the metal community and the other music communities is because we are here for the music and not for the image. Just enjoy it!
+Kristi Kadzadej I saw her open for Behemoth as well. Before I had heard her name but never checked her music out. Fantastic performance, amazing vocals. She did a great Bathory cover too. Met her after the concert and although she had to go (it was really, really late and most people had left already), she was really nice and down-to-earth. I bought the CD and got her autograph to support her.
+Overrwatcher I'd never heard of her before but I bought her tshirt because I really enjoyed her performance and wanted to support her. And I agree that she really did seem down to earth!
Tehres nothing experimental about her music. The problem is that she´s a phony. She could have done metal from the very beginning which would show she has an interest in this type of music. She already made a choice and tried a career as a popstar which you do because you want to be popular; Alarm bells should already be ringing for people with iq+80. It didnt work out so she had to bring her filthy cleft into metal all of a sudden. She´s in music for fame. This is all so plastic and artificial and stinks like theres an army of suits behind her making sure the business is running well.
I have only recently read about the whole hate and death threats shit and the only conclusion would be jelaousy and probably the fact that she played in a pop band earlier and did some ultra posh modelling for Channel commercial but directed by Scorcese
It's so laughably: I listen to all kinds of metal for more than 30 years now. Back in the day you had to pick sides - Mayhem, Burzum. Depending on in which team you were in, the others were sold outs. Fifteen years later, and they were idolized, as trve black metal. Dimmu Borgier? Fuck it! Darkthrone? Na - not cvlt enough. Saw them open up for Behemoth this week, really impressed. Came across really well live. The crowd was into it. Tasteful and good performance. Got to meet her after the show and she was very nice and quite pretty :) Great performance, her clean voice is something to write about.

Whelp, I enjoyed it. It was very relaxing to listen to this album. At the end of the day, it sounds good to my ears.
What an incredible discover. stumbled upon this by chance. I know little about black metal, nothing about her legitimacy as a black metal artiste, nothing about the controversies she stirs within the black metal community, all I do know is that I enjoyed the album very much and good luck to her.
man, before i heard this, i heard nothing but bad things folks said about her work. that is not the case with me. when i saw them open for behemoth in my area of detroit, michigan, i was in total awe of myrkur and the guys touring with her. at one point i was even crying. she has the voice of an angel but can do black metal vocals though. and this album is a bit of flesh air for once in the scene. i am a sucker for classical or symphonic, and folk elements in the mix. but she's not for everyone though. but i know i enjoy it.
Great stuff , sooo "soft" riffs and her beautiful voices both clean and growling keep my attention all the time. fantastic mix of black and folk, and smth else i can't describe. it's pure art, awesome and atmospheric, thnx a lot for uploading. 🤘👍

an eclectic mix; from serene soundscapes to more traditional sounding black metal. the kind of album where it sounds like you could have it in the background while reading or when a venue plays something between sets and everyones having a smoke. either way its a generally subdued album.
+brottarnacke Ha ha, sådan havde jeg ikke tænkt på det. Det står først klart for en at "mørke" er afledt af oldnordisk, "myrkur", når man tænker lidt over det
It is ironic for pure Black Metal fans to call this hipster Black Metal haha but honestly I don't mind this. Not too into her screaming parts (could of been done better) but I really like the cleans in this album, the atmospheric elements have a form of Shoe-Gaze sound kinda like Alcest in a way, at some parts I can tell this was definitely influenced by Ulver and even Agalloch. I like this for the sound, not for the appearance of this musician.
+Thy Harvesting It sounds great but the problem with the music is that the album consists of a lot of stolen riffs like the first track is ripped directly from Absurd.
+Thy Harvesting The only reason for them getting annoyed was because of the band and label saying that this was "the next big thing for Black Metal", of which after listening, there was little actual Black Metal elements
Elliot Pierson if it's something we should be used to is not taking what record labels and music magazines quote for upcoming bands, chances are they over-exaggerate it to get them views. But yeh this isn't exactly Black Metal, has influences but it's more to the atmospheric/ambience feel with a more Folk approach
Fucking Brilliant! !! going to listen to this over and over! I can't believe I've missed out on this for so long. Talented musician, and songwriter. One of my new favorites period.
the essence of black metal lies in the acceptance and embrace of death through the eerie otherworldly atmosphere the music creates. It's black enough for me in a delicate way
+Hook Nosed Hunter Oxford dictionary definition: "A person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream." The actual definition has nothing to do with indie, just people who will only like unpopular things. Now I'm not saying that all black metal fans are hipsters, but that part of the motivation of the original bands of the second wave of black metal was to make music that most people wouldn't like due to the increasing morbidity and extremity (seriously, have you not read or heard anything Euronymous and other prominent second wave musicians had to say about Death Metal and how it was too popular and commercial?).
+George Fletcher They didn't want to go public with it, so it would have made Euronymous a hipster at the time. Plus all the church burnings were talked about way too much. So of course black metal was becoming more revealed during that time.
+George Fletcher Yes and what is real Black Metal not about? It is not about fashion and trends, it is being at a timeless core of something much older than youth cultures, it is about hermeticism, it is about few friends, not a scene, it is about nature not cities, it is about loneliness and death not about socializing in a stupid club that is supposed to be cool.
I really dont mind if it sounds like Ulver , I like the depressive atmosphere this has , stop the hate and move on , i dont think you people should worry , there is more important things going on, war, death , hunger,
I'm with the dude that said if you don't like her music don't listen and don't buy it ! Publicity negative or positive is still publicity! Period ! and she should thank people for both!
This woman gets to much shit from people. If you don't like it, move on to something else, the more you moan about her the more publicity she gets. So what if she does pop music? Whats wrong with liking or playing different music styles. Fenriz likes Techno.... She ripped off a few riffs from Ulver apparently...So what? The kings of of black metal were ripping off riffs from each other. Euronymous used riffs written by thorns, Emperor used a riff that was supposed to of been on the next Mayhem album before Euronymous was killed. Lets face it, how many Folk metal bands sound the same in musical terms? How female fronted gothic metal bands from Austria on Napalm records sound the same? Oh no, someone from a pop band is on a Black metal album?? So was the female vocalist on Fleuretys Min tid skall komme, but it didn't stop it being one of the best avantgarde Norwegian bands in the scene. Isn't the whole idea of Underground metal about variation in music and personalities and being open minded. ??
I admit, I rarely get excited about modern black metal now. Constant keyboard laden gothic black metal, or re-hashing the old raw style, with snowy album covers and spidery logos gets tiresome. I personally prefer the avantgarde metal scene, progressive metal and theres some decent death metql bands out there now. But, having said that, if Mrykur enjoys what she's doing then fine, shes not doing anyone any harm.
Check out 'Wormfood- France. Stayed in my player for a year. Atrorum- Structurae Botonist- IV Flora.....Metal played with hammered dulcimers instead of guitars. Interesting. Progenie terreste Pura- Uma Lantlos- Agape...Sort of post black metal, by avantgarde too. Old favourites Arcturus La Masquerade Infinale. Bought it when it first came out, loved it since Solefald, Linear scaffold..Again bought it when it first came out...awesome In the woods- Heart of the ages. How about you?
I didn't think it was cohesive enough at first. Tended to go real soft and a few moments of heavy; but after multiple listens it does flow and I cant stop listening to it
When i listen to this album, i hear verry good and original Metal, realy not boring like 99% of the releases is boring crap. The haters have a lot options left to listen, instead of complaining about hypes or what ever narrow minded stuff is going on.
Mi corazón de acero es incapaz de no sensibilizarse con tan misteriosa y grandilocuente expresión de metal, si bien es cierto soy purista, me soy incapaz de no disfrutar de esta particular y grandiosa expresión de Black metal.
I nowadays often prefer female approaches in mostly maskulinity dominated genres. If it´s Metal, Hardcore or Rap, the female perspective to me is refreshing and mostly more interesting than the 10.000th iteration of the same old story told by the anxiety of not having big enough balls.
All I have ever wanted from a Black Metal one man band is in this album. Layers of sounds, mixed textures, folk settings, classical black metal rifs, mysterious ballads and a dark soul journey.

Also Haavard from Ulver. This is why it sounds like Ulver.
Good for them 😂

i like myrkur but this opinion is clearly poser, BM always has been evolving in the underground. The genre itself its a fucking schism

+Thy Harvesting Agreed.
BT Studio Productions
glad to see someone agree
+Thy Harvesting It sounds great but the problem with the music is that the album consists of a lot of stolen riffs like the first track is ripped directly from Absurd.
+Thy Harvesting The only reason for them getting annoyed was because of the band and label saying that this was "the next big thing for Black Metal", of which after listening, there was little actual Black Metal elements
Elliot Pierson
if it's something we should be used to is not taking what record labels and music magazines quote for upcoming bands, chances are they over-exaggerate it to get them views.
Into the geriatrics (so to speak)?
Byssan Lull? O.o Wow, did not expcet that.
But that is an awesome interpretation of an old Swedish folk song. Her voice is almost shivering....
Had the privilidge to see them at Download 2018 - best thing I heard all day
This is VERY GOOD stuff, please continue to give us beautiful nightmares
I'm so glad I stumbled across this. I love it.
the essence of black metal lies in the acceptance and embrace of death through the eerie otherworldly atmosphere the music creates. It's black enough for me in a delicate way
Cuando una banda se atreve a hacer algo diferente y creativo salen cosas maravillosas como esta :)
I like metal because it sounds like going F a S T
I play this album a lot in the studio while I'm working. If people don't like her stuff, don't listen to it. It's that simple.
I like the mix . I think it shows real talent and creativity
Holy shit, what a great album!!
Oh the irony of kvlt black metal fans who are the epitome of hipster culture calling someone else hipster.
I know exactly what it means.
I don't recall them saying mainstream shit like cannibal corpse was bad because death metal got on mtv. More so the lack of creativity.
+George Fletcher Yes and what is real Black Metal not about? It is not about fashion and trends, it is being at a timeless core of something much older than youth cultures, it is about hermeticism, it is about few friends, not a scene, it is about nature not cities, it is about loneliness and death not about socializing in a stupid club that is supposed to be cool.
i really like her musical diversity, shes not a one trick pony or a one hit wonder.
I really dont mind if it sounds like Ulver , I like the depressive atmosphere this has , stop the hate and move on , i dont think you people should worry , there is more important things going on, war, death , hunger,
+Oscar AlfaX awww....how cute look at me a hipster is mad at me!!!
Not for the cocooned shitheads, artificial elitism keeps their mundane life interesting.
I am truly impressed. This is glorious!
This makes me want to catch up, on all the Ulver albums I haven't heard yet.
"Black Metal is one of the most generic metal genres " I would argue otherwise but sure most modern bm is uninspired.
Ah i too love avant metal. What are your favourites?
Check out 'Wormfood- France. Stayed in my player for a year.
Atrorum- Structurae
Botonist- IV Flora.....Metal played with hammered dulcimers instead of guitars. Interesting.
Progenie terreste Pura- Uma
Lantlos- Agape...Sort of post black metal, by avantgarde too.
Old favourites
Arcturus La Masquerade Infinale. Bought it when it first came out, loved it since
Solefald, Linear scaffold..Again bought it when it first came out...awesome

6:16 That's how a Shieldmaiden or a Valkyrie must sound like!
Is this the new Ulver album I've been waiting for?
Beautiful music!
STOKED TO SEE YOU IN DENVER TONIGHT!
the best folk black metal you've ever seen
Thanks for telling us that you've never seen Moonsorrow, Falkenbach, Ensiferum, Windir, Graveland, Noktrurnal Mortum, Summoning and Winterfylleth
This is something like I haven't heard before. I am liking this.
What an amazing album!💖💖💖
I didn't think it was cohesive enough at first. Tended to go real soft and a few moments of heavy; but after multiple listens it does flow and I cant stop listening to it
This is so gorgeous \m/
jumpfart666 somehow I highly doubt that.
I am ghostly in love 🎃
Amalie is a killer .
Dark n light.
Cheers from Brazil.
Mange Tak
Fuck the haters. I like it. It's moody, folky and dark.
Ooookayyyy I'm officially in love
When i listen to this album, i hear verry good and original Metal, realy not boring like 99% of the releases is boring crap.
The haters have a lot options left to listen, instead of complaining about hypes or what ever narrow minded stuff is going on.
One of the top albums of the year for me.
haters gonna hate, Long live to MYRKUR!
Really love the ambient layers.
Mi corazón de acero es incapaz de no sensibilizarse con tan misteriosa y grandilocuente expresión de metal, si bien es cierto soy purista, me soy incapaz de no disfrutar de esta particular y grandiosa expresión de Black metal.
Myrkur brings back reflections of some beautiful albums from the 90's too, e.g. SIRRAH - Acme, among others
OMG! This is my favourite tribute band of ULVER :O
True
Great album!
amazingly diverse . I should give it another listen tomorrow or another day . Great album
A blend between Forgotten Woods, Summoning and Theatre (old material)? Exceptional stuff.
Thank you girl to save female's honor in metal ! This is Art
I nowadays often prefer female approaches in mostly maskulinity dominated genres. If it´s Metal, Hardcore or Rap, the female perspective to me is refreshing and mostly more interesting than the 10.000th iteration of the same old story told by the anxiety of not having big enough balls.
I love Myrkur! They're great in my book!
