In fact, almost all, in not all secular Arab nationalist regimes had better relations with the USSR than the US, since the biggest US allies were either all monarchies like Iran (under the Shah) or Saudi Arabia, or Israel. In fact, Islamism, which led to the Islamic terrorism that we see today was fomented and supported by the west and the Gulf monarchies.
