btw, I think you can click and hold the 0 key (in default setup) and do a one-off call without setting up a channel for it - handy when you meet someone on a talk group and want to give traffic back to the public (I think). It's basically the same as going through Menus Talk Groups>Manual Dial and typing in someone's RadioID
Isn't there a step missing from here which is creating or adding this to a zone? I'm a newbie so maybe missing something but I was under an impression that every channel/TG had to belong to a zone to be displayed.
Cody, seriously, will you tell us exactly what keeps others from listening to the "private" conversation? Wouldn't anybody who had their radio in "monitor" mode or "promiscuous" mode be able to listen to it? If not, why not?
Cody, it would be greatly appreciated if you would explain to us just exactly what it is that keeps anybody and everybody from listening in on your "private" conversation?
I like the private mode as my radio is silent until called and can be on any talk group and switch to them to get the qso. Ham radio is not private so this is not for that reason.
@@undrhil That's all you've got? Any ham has, or can easily acquire, the ability to put their radio into promiscuous mode. I would bet that there are far fewer people who can listen in on landline phones, and that, for the average person, it is much more difficult than putting a radio in promiscuous mode. They are hardly the same thing, not by a long shot.
I did this with a firend of me we was setting up private calls and it does work, when i call him he gets the warning and, but i dont when he tries to call me, but when he calls me i do get a green lamp but no display warning. I do have a codplug from a another person so there might be a settnings someware.

There's no such thing as privately on HAM. Someone may not interrupt you on 'private call' over DMR, but EVERYONE can listen to the conversation between the 2.
Interesting. I'm just sure I want to leave the manual tuning - insert a different coil for the next band - radios. It could be digital is just a fad and won't last. Cody you did MUCH better with controling your right hand this time!
i personally like to use encryption when airing private conversations with another. ensures that nobody can eaves drop unless they have the 24 char encryption code
There is no such thing as privacy on DMR- a private code on DMR means it is a PERSONAL code- there is nothing private about it. If you have a radio that has promiscuous mode, it will pick up any DMR conversation, over the air, or on the internet channel between hotspots and/or repeaters, or even radio-to-radio. There are several scanners that can also monitor DMR traffic. As hams, we don't have encryption to make our calls conditionally secure, so these private codes do not provide privacy, anymore that PL (now called QT) tones provide privacy. BridgeCom should not be sewing false information- take this video down and redo it to make sure you do not imply a private code is interpreted as providing privacy.

Yes, a channel needs to be part of zone to be used.
Apparently, Cody does not respond to these comments, and probably doesn't even read them.

The call is as private as a phone call on a landline telephone.
@@undrhil How so? Without some explanation of what makes it private, I am highly skeptical.
@@JimAndyAllyn a landline phone isn't private since anyone with the know-how can listen in on those calls

For HAMS on HAM bands encryption is forbidden.
Note that the other person needs to do this also with your dmr ID in order to talk back to you. You should have mentioned that in the video, Cody.
3:34 You should have watched the video.
Yeah, you can always hear someone's private call with an Anytone radio!

its a pain because you have to keep selecting the user name
Again? I thought you published this video before
