I agree up until the "we are standing up to tyranny worldwide now" stop thinking so black and white and realize that propaganda is so deadly because people that are unaware are heavily affected by it without knowing. Learn about history and do actual research today drop the cognitive biases and you'll learn who the enemy of good is in modern day.

Well we did stand up to tyranny; it was our Finest hour and although, at the time it seemed a forlorn hope, we, with the help of America and the Commonwealth countries, finally prevailed. I for one, am still proud that I lived through it all, and now in my 85th year, I still hold my head high. WE KEPT CALM AND CARRIED ON. We no longer have the power to influence the modern World, however it was worthwhile at the time.
God Bless you Mr. Wilson. I am American, but have much respect for Mr. Churchill. I loved the movie made of him. The name of it was simply Churchill in case you have not seen it.
American here. Thanks for posting this. Always had a huge interest in WW2 history. Was in the UK in 2017 and toured the Imperial War Museum during the Armistice anniversary. Picked up a print of Sir Churchill, which still hangs in my den. Much respect to our brothers and sisters across the pond.
I’m Anglo-American (God Bless America and God Save The King) and I am so proud of this man. How lucky were we to have him as a leader? He was our finest hour. Honor of the highest order. Whenever I need to be inspired, I simply look up ‘Winston Churchill quotes’. I can tell Her Majesty The Queen benefited greatly from having him as her first Prime Minister. She learned the best from him. She has his cheekiness and his sense of honor too. Churchill and the fine British people who fought so hard have indeed gone down as our finest hour. The American in me is quite proud he is part American. 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸
Hitler bewitched the German people with his twisted rhetoric! Churchill inspired England and its commonwealth with his words. A battle of evil against good and with God's help good triumphed! Words are a powerful tool in the mouth of good men as well as perverse ones. Thank you, Winston; truly one of the greatest men to have ever lived!
Well actually like one born every ten years for his age because there was a man called Mustafa Kemal Atatürk which born in 1881, churchill born in 1874 so there is only 7 years of a gap between these two great men's for the history. İ know that currently with the current situation of turkey you wouldn't agree with me but in 1930s turkey was a modern European nation unlike now and the only reason that turkey was a modern European nation was Atatürk. Without him there wouldn't be a turkey. There would be a tsarist regime in Russia without Atatürk defeating allies in Çanakkale strait which would mean İstanbul and warshaw would be occupied by Russia. So he was one of the greatest men in the history. And if you look at those thousand years between 874 and 1874 you will see a lot more great man for history

While I certainly respect Churchill as a politician, I doubt Britain would have fallen without him and instead some other democratic leader. Hitler may have been a maniac, but both he and the OKW (Oberstkommando der Wehrmacht aka The German High command) knew that Operation Sealion was completely unrealistic. The Royal Navy could afford to take heavy losses in defence of their homeland, the Home Fleet was simply too large.
Not likely. If the Germans couldn't pull off Operation SeaLion, an invasion of North America was unthinkable. Churchill himself recognized this at the end of the "We shall never surrender" speech.
What a speech! This one, the one thanking the RAF, Dr. King's "I Have a Dream", JFK'S "Ask Not", RFK's speech at JFK's funeral and the "December 7, 1941..." speech... probably the greatest speeches ever and possibly ever will be.
He was a drunken warmonger, a mass murderer who helped destroy Europe and even, ironically, his beloved British empire, all for what? For Poland? The same POland that was given up to the Soviets who had murdered more people before the war than Germany is said to have killed in 12 years of National Socialism? Then the betrayal of the rest of that half of Europe to the Soviets.
"Hitler knows that he will have to break us on this island or lose the war" was brilliant phrasing. At the time Hitler was running roughshod over everyone and everything in Europe and looked unstoppable. To make mention of Hitler "losing the war," even as unlikely as it seemed at the time, was an excellent psychological ploy considering how bleak and hopeless the situation looked for the UK at that moment.
Ah yes. It's hard to remember nazis were nazis on a map but the France campaign and the invasion of the Soviets were beautifully done. Must be crazy to stand up to that.
It leaves everything for future generations to aspire to - because for a thousand years in the past, and a thousand years in the future, this, indeed, was the British's finest hour...
Neil Griffiths brotain will be lucky to last past brexit. Britain was a conception of people, now indistinct from the third rate countries it colonized and traded with. Lesson is avoid trade and imperialism, anything with outsiders if you want to last one thousand years.
Oh contraire, Brexit is the biggest opportunity Britain has had since before the first world war, there are about 5 million out of a population of 65 million who are immigrants or recent descendants of immigrants, so as long as control is taken back as Brexit's most important issue demanded, I don't see a problem going forward - so long as we don't capitulate entirely to the SJW's. of course.
Neil Griffiths perhaps, but at no time in her history nor history itself have so-called migrants and refugees be nothong of the kind. These stateless things do not assimilate to britain, learn the language, assime the culture, etc. Rather they completely uncharacteristically of their predecessors, behave and carry on as they dod in yhe places they fled headlong from, bringing the same stupid pigheaded, idiotic problems and concerns that ruined the lives and countries that they came from. And no one english wants england anything like non-england, which is the reason for borders.
Neil Griffiths challenge is great agreed, but the anticipated end is completely disputed by every measure and will be fisasterous for britain, the eu and the world. Refugees and economic migrants in general are the zombies and pod people of our literatures worst alluded to nightmare.
Churchill probably knew what was eventually going to happen since French troops were already crushed by the Germans' blitzkrieg, they were completely swept out at this point

Growing up in those times it was common to talk about the war and what it meant to humanity. I wish that today we had great and wise leaders as we had in the past. May God be with us and guide us all.
A load of deliberately misleading nonsense. Lies masquerading as the truth, and it gets over 200 thumbs up. It's obvious that there's an agenda on this thread. So predictable!!
What a man what a leader what a legend. I’m from a large military family and very proud of being English. Where has the bulldog spirit gone . We have let the heroes of yesterday down .
Aint that the truth im a veteran but I'm not a proud English man anymore I'm not sure what to be proud of 😒 but I'm proud of my service and our war generation,
@Stepen Smith, hard times breed hard men. Soft times breed soft men. We have had things too easy, and have allowed politicians to serve their own interests, not the peoples.
@@matthewpace5834We have things easy because these men fought for it and it's what they would have wanted, they fought this war so we would never have to fight again. We aren't soft, its how things should be. Sadly its our own politicians letting our people down
My father fought in WWII, and my parents taught us all the importance of fighting against real evil. Listening to this speech, I mourn the loss of all those who fought against tyranny and dictatorship, and I pray that people everywhere remember the wisdom Churchill spoke. Let’s fight against dictators-even for one day. America, remember our history, the history of the world, and stand strong against evil and would be dictators!

As an “Yank”, I actually believe that Winston Churchill is the greatest leader in the last two centuries.
The greatest British leader at the very least.
Britain was bombed, children were evacuated from London. The King and Queen refused to leave and Churchill made his speech. Everyone stayed and fought.

Certainly know how to deliver a speach, talk about having the right man in the right place at the right time, what a legend! Thank you Sir Winston!
Always been proud to be Canadian and be a part of the British commonwealth. We answered the call without hesitation.

The Commonwealth were magnificent, we were so lucky to have them with us.
Right man for the right job at the right time
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
It's Sir Winston. It's always the first name.
OUR LION R.I.P. SIR Winston Spencer Churchill
just.. wow. That truly was their finest hour, and the world is a better place for it. We owe them so much. Lest we forget.
He was profound and timely! It WAS! Their finest hour! So proud that we supported them.
He was not a perfect man but he was always reaching for perfection, this makes him a rare person, one born every 1000 years.
We need a man like him now more than ever. ‘Cometh the hour, cometh the man’
Too bally right. I love a heart on sleeve speech that rallies everyone behind the leader. This was Churchill's finest hour!
YES YES YES
How about a woman 😉
@@Sgab1007 we had a woman, two of them in recent times, the last one made a right mess of it. But yes, if there is a woman out there then I’m all for it. Cometh the hour, cometh the person! 😂
@@Thefoilingguy In all honesty, that says it all. The fact that there is such a small number of women to name who have been in power, speaks volumes.
Man, Sir Winston was... cool. He was cool under fire. Imagine having leaders of this caliber again... now, when we need them the most. For the good or ill of any country, indeed of any people throughout history, it starts at the top. The world misses dearly this kind of cool-headed, solid and inspirational leadership right now, and we are being brought low for the lack of it.
The lack of statesmen around the world is horrifying.
WE HAVE PRESIDENT PUTIN A GOOD MAN DESPITE ALL THE LIES OF THE WESTERN MEDIA WHO BETRAY EVERYTHING CHURCHILL STANDS FOR
Great words and inspirational example of incredible leadership, for the ages.
To fight on,if necessary for years,if necessary alone 😥😥what a man and what a speaker ...🏴🇬🇧 also our friends and family in the commonwealth and america 👍
Churchill was such an amazing person. I honestly believe that if it were not for him, we would all be speaking German now.
He boosted the morals of allied soldiers who went on to beat barmy hitler to his grave
Very probable!
The only way i see everybody speaking German now would be it Hitler got nukes first. U had half of ur post right tho. Churchill was special.
He mobilized the English language, and sent it off to war.
Great quote! I’m stealing it. Well done!

Darkest hour. 👍🏼

What a speech! This one, the one thanking the RAF, Dr. King's "I Have a Dream", JFK'S "Ask Not", RFK's speech at JFK's funeral and the "December 7, 1941..." speech... probably the greatest speeches ever and possibly ever will be.

This was a statesman and the very definition of charismatic. And history picked him at the right time and at the right place.
As an American, I can say this is the most epic quote I've ever heard. It was indeed 'their finest hour'
Gets me every time I hear it. Simply magnificent.
incredible that he made this speech when Britain was on its heels, he should have been terrified, but he boldly doubled-down.
This WAS their finest hour.
Where are those type of men now when we need them most Churchill was most definitely a great man then, now, and forever.

It's a huge challenge, agree, but there are plenty equal to it.
Neil Griffiths challenge is great agreed, but the anticipated end is completely disputed by every measure and will be fisasterous for britain, the eu and the world. Refugees and economic migrants in general are the zombies and pod people of our literatures worst alluded to nightmare.
This speech was composed without knowing the outcome of the Nazis invasion of France, The gravity and importance of these words is immeasurable.....
Churchill probably knew what was eventually going to happen since French troops were already crushed by the Germans' blitzkrieg, they were completely swept out at this point
"without knowing the outcome of the War of France"
on June 18th"? You serious? omg 62 thumbs up for that statement
Of course he knew the outcome. He says so in the speech.
“The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin.”
The poor old French provided no resistance whatsoever. Even Malta put up more of a fight.
@JimmiAlli ...that's not true, french citizens, even teenagers, took the fight to the nazis, they were called the French Resistance...you should read a book called "Dadland" by Keggy Carew, it is a classified true story of the Jedburgh's...little known history of soldiers in far flung coasts, foreign lands fighting against evil on every front
