My only complaint for this game as far as gameplay goes: I wish the fuse menu had some sort of folder feature so I didn't have to scroll through a hundred plus materials. I know you can sort, but it could be better

The sorting feature does leave something to be desired. The "most used" section does definitely makes things easier the more you play, though!

I’m about halfway through the main story and this game blows botw away in every aspect!

the only thing i legit miss from botw is the bomb runes, purely because my fighting strategy is often to cowardly chuck things at enemies from afar and having an unlimited supply of bombs made things a bit easier 😭

      Wait, there's runes in botw?

@@stormy_does_stuffthat's just the name of the equivalent to your key items in botw. Bomb, Magnesis, Stasis, and Cryonis are the four Runes that serve similar purposes to things like the megaton hammer, hookshot, etc in the game.

This game really kinda weakens Link but does so in a way that adds a lot more possibilities for creative problem solving! The original powers of Cryo, Stasis, Magnesis, and Bombs were all straight forward and really quite powerful, each having direct uses for combat and exploration. Same with the blessings you got from Mipha, Urbosa, Revali, and Mipha, they were simple but effective. Totk instead adds these complex powers that require the player to be more engaged to use to the best of their abilities because at first glance they can be kinda forgettable. I actually forgot about ascend too and got stuck on a shrine for thirty minutes not realizing I was supposed to use it, which upon realizing I completed the shrine almost immediately. [Spoilers for the Gerudo and Zora area main quests ahead!]
The vows of Sidon and Riju follow suit with the powers, weaker but more versatile. Sidon’s water bubble is really just a less powerful Daruk’s protection, but, it can make enemies wet and knock them down! Along with the fact it can be used to traverse hot areas harmlessly, it’s a lot better than it first appears! As for Riju, having a free lightning buff to almost every arrow you fire is a godsend. Especially with the fuse possibilities for arrows now, what you can do is probably more valuable than Urbosa’s relatively small aoe storm. As for the gorons and rito, I can’t say anything! I haven’t gotten to completing either, so I’m excited to explore then when I do

      Real quick self reply
I do have a few gameplay mechanic complaints. I wish you could fuse materials to weapons in the menu, it’s a tad inconvenient to drop it when you can already fuse stuff to arrows from the menu. [Spoilers again] And then for the vows I wish they had keybindings to activate, chasing down the apparitions is difficult in both combat and exploration when it really doesn’t need to be.
But my whining aside, I like your content! (That was my main reason for this add-on) I’ve watched this and the rupee video now, and I’ll be subscribing. I’m excited to watch more of your content, new and old!

Footage at 5:00 is the perfect example of what you were talking about with ascend. First time I was in that area with my wife we also used the log ladder. But when I started my own save file I realized you could just ascend through the stone that you used to prop the logs up. Also while rewind is really clear on how to use it in shrines to reverse the direction of a platform, it took me so long to realize all the potential uses in the overworld.

My daughter gifted me the TOTK switch and CE, while she started BOTW, and I agree wholeheartedly with this assessment. Since her time is limited I recommended just moving on to TOTK (we share the same account on different switches). I’m plundering the depths to increase my battery capacity although a little sad that apparently I’m reaching the end of the main quest, could be a ruse but we shall see!

TotK has been of my favorite gaming experiences in a long time. To go off your point of BotW feeling almost incomplete by comparison, it feels somewhat similar to the comparison between Smash 4 and Ultimate, where the latter just does so much more and so much better that it almost gives you no reason to ever want to go back to the original.

I’m 180 hours in, several dungeons done, bunch of caves done, full surface and map unlocked but still so so so so SO much to do! This game is absolutely brilliant and fun and when I’m not playing it I’m thinking about playing it later. Love Zelda and especially love this game! I don’t think I could go back to BotW either 😂😊

There are a few shrines that can be completely cheesed, bypassing the "intended" solution completely, but it's hard to decide whether it's a genuine design oversight or just intended more-than-one-way-of-solving the puzzle. (In at least a couple of shrines the cheese method that bypasses the entire puzzle doesn't _feel_ like it's intentional by the developers, but who knows. This especially since it's not like some really obscure technique requiring a huge amount of precision and skill and speedrun strats. Some of the bypasses are very easy to both see and do.)

I can hardly compare how I feel about BotW and TotK. I loved the mystery and yes story of BotW. The character paths were really fun and I loved the quest lines and side quests.
TotK is more like exactly how it is set up: it feels like you are coming back to a world with all of your experience. You know people, everyone knows you and you generally just go around and help out as you try to parse the more detailed story.
I love mystery in games which is why I might even love BotW more, because of how it made me feel when I first played it on the WiiU. But I really do love how alive the world feels in TotK, and how connected to everything you feel, like you are really needed and present in the world, aside from your abilities at killing baddies.
I never had complaints about BotW when I played it, and only loved my experience the more and more engrossed I became. All I can say is that TotK just feels like a completely different game to me. It's been years since I played BotW, so I don't recognize any of the map, and I was pleasantly surprised when I came across the Great Plateau and was like: "Oh, hey. It's a trip down memory lane."
How great both of these games are just further cements how deeply I love this franchise and the stories and worlds it has taken me through (separated only by time, obviously).

The biggest leg up on TOTK that I think BOTW has is in its combat. The runes offered endless amounts of combos and cool tricks whereas all the new ones are moreso puzzle focused
