  • The National Theatre of Scotland's critically acclaimed international theatre sensation. Hurtling from a pool room in Fife to an armoured wagon in Iraq, Black Watch is based on recent interviews conducted by playwright Gregory Burke --winner of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain's Best Play (Theatre) award -- with former soldiers who served in Iraq. Viewed through the eyes of those on the ground, Black Watch reveals what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, what it means to be part of the war on terror and what it means to make the journey home again. In its five-star review, The Herald wrote, "Black Watch is an astonishing artistic whirlwind. The world must see this play. Immediately." Location TBA.

I saw the production twice at the Broadway Armory in Chicago. Without question, it was one of the 5 most remarkable theatrical events that I've ever witnessed. Beautiful, visceral, and utterly heartbreaking. Thank you, National Theatre of Scotland. Please remount this production and bring it back to Chicago!

Just saw this show in Brooklyn. It was powerful in a way I've never experienced with a play. I love this show and I'm so damned glad I saw it.

Wonderful piece of theatre. Saw two different tours with different casts in New York City. It is powerful, not recommended for soldiers with active PTSD. I especially found the "letters from home" scene absolutely wonderful and devastating.

I'm looking for the "wee Bonnie Lass" tune (3:49) that's sung a couple of times - is it a traditional song or was it written for this play

I know you must be proud of being Scottish and the Black Watch but I wouldn't say they were the best regiment in the British army, they are good but not the best, The rifles have a battalion which is part of the commando, 1st Btt. Then you got The Mercians, Royal Anglian Regiment, Guards, PWRR and far by the best regiment in the armed forces alongside the Royal Marines are the Paras, now you can't tell me the Black Watch are better than the Paras lol. Btw i think the Black Watch are brilliant.
