  • This dig dated back to the late 1850's to the mid 1870's. Nearing the bottom, I had a visit from Mark McDonald and his crew from the PBS show Illinois Stories film a half hour segment. This can be viewed on RUclips under "In The Privy Digging Bottles." Sadly not a lot of bottles this time but even sadder was a broken bitters bottle on the bottom embossed "Dr. Wright's/Rocky Mountain/ Bitters." Ultra rare! #dumpdigging #privydigging #bottledigging

Those are some really nice botts. Great dig! Love that Heinz and Noble. I thought I recognized your voice from the PBS documentary. That was very well done but your videos are better.

THANKS! I had to reach out to a wider audience for the PBS videos. My videos are more tailored for the serious digger and initially for my own personal record keeping and amusement, plus it reminded me where I had already dug!

    Hello,
Wonderful video! I can't imagine anyone taking something with the word petroleum in it, heck there had to have been more deaths than cures. Your Hines and Noble is a gorgeous bottle, I would repair it too. How did you become so knowledgeable on bottles? What materials were you using? I would like to be more knowledgeable, but don't know where to start . What is a Keystone pontil or is it called that? Sorry for such a long comment. Your channel is wonderful.
    Thanks,
    Debra

Never overlook the Warner's. There are so many different variants that can bring big bucks. Kidney and liver cures are very common, not the others.

Interesting video! Just wondering - are there any glass maker marks on the base of either one of those two "generic" bluing or Jamaica ginger shaped bottles (starting around 10:28 in video)?

Hi David, glad you found my channel. No, sorry, I believe they were unmarked. I left them with the pile for the homeowner. I'll double check them to see when I catch him home. Usually if marked around here they are IG Co.

@@WellAlrightyThen Got ya! Thank you Jack! I couldn't help but ask - I've got a small selection of "generic, slick" bottles that look like very much like those, but on the bottom they have markings such as: "G.W." (Great Western Glass Co. in St Louis), "S.G.Co." and "S G W LOU KY" (Southern Glass Co, Louisville), "KY G W" (Kentucky Glass Works Co. Louisville), "I G CO" (Illinois Glass, Alton) and maybe a few others including unmarked. One has just a solitary "C" -- not sure what that stands for!

Syrup of petroleum...I'm sure that was a spoonful that would easily go down the kids throat without any complaints. Guaranteed to make you feel better if it didn't kill you first! Sweet gun oil bottle too! So hard getting a whole Cathedral! I have dug two in 40 years! Thanks for sharing your digs with us!
