Richard Nuttall: “Well, I think the biggest difference is, this is a sporting nation that truly invests in sports all around and especially in universities. The money that is poured in is way superior to back in Europe. It’s almost like being a professional sportsman while you’re attending university. And I love that!I love that fact about this country and it suited me. I was a teacher and playing semi-pro at the time. To come here and get involved in this full-time is just like being in full-time professional soccer. Yet, you’re promoting the lives of young people while they get their degree.” 🗣
Richard Nuttall, a former professional soccer player in England and a former member of the Long Island Rough Riders, completed his 32nd season as Hofstra University Head Men’s Soccer Coach in 2020-21. Nuttall has guided the Pride to a 290-245-75 record in transforming the program into one of the most competitive in the Northeast.
Nuttall, who is the winningest coach in program history, has led his team to a Colonial Athletic Association Tournament appearance in 10 of the past 11 seasons including the finals in 2015, 2018 and 2020. The Pride has won four CAA Championships under his direction (2004, 2005, 2006, 2015) and he has coached Hofstra to a .500 record or better in 11 of the past 12 years, including nine straight campaigns.
