KEEP ROCKING METALJESUS thankyou for hours of entertainment! I often write down games from your hidden gems list as well, between you and the guys at game sack i have a nice pc engine cd collection that I routinely play !
When a Turbo Duo hard pauses the game for a moment to load, it's a good thing. It means it's dumping old shit and loading new. Games that didn't do that loaded all their data into RAM once, generally meaning they had less content to display. So those little pauses usually meant there were new stages, textures or sound effects being loaded, mixing up what was to come.
There's a way to stream that data to RAM from CD though, or to mask the loading operation without totally stopping the gameplay. Red solved this in LOT by moving the bosses to their own environment.
Wow, that was one of the most mind-blowingly awesome montage sequences I've ever seen. Would love to see a part II of this one, with in-depth coverage of more PC-Engine / TurboGrafx / TurboDuo / SuperGrafx shoot 'em ups! Especially R-Type, Image Fight I and II, the Darius series, the Raiden series, and Nexzr!
We've learned that pretty much no matter what we do, we can't win. And many games aren't worth talking in depth about. Bt know that if a game shows up in a montage doesn't mean it'll never appear on the show again 9or hasn't already appeared before). We may talk about them for other reasons besides just being a shooter on the Turbo. And I don't think Whitesnake did the music for Android Assault/Bari Arm. :)
Game Sack - Whitesnake? lol..no, I don’t think so either. I suppose it’s possible Sykes or Vandenburg could have done some of the guitar work on the soundtrack. That’s always possible.
Can't believe Blazing Lasers was in the montage and not the main part! LOVED that game! I really liked how every time you picked something up a voice would call it out!
@MRabbitFrog Every day? In order to do that we'd have to put in 8 hour+ days so maybe $100,000k+ a year? I'd be afraid of running out of stuff to cover.
Finally you guys reviewed some good games! Thanks for giving Raisinbar lots of love it's totally badass and the soundtrack is one of the best ever. Still waiting for the CDi episode you guys promised though....
The early games all had outer cardboard boxes including CD games. Jewel cases were inside. When the Duo came out, CD games came in jewel cases and no cardboard and card games came in cardboard boxes but no jewel case. This is US only. I was all jewel-case only in Japan.
10:50 I recently played the TG16 CD Forgotten Worlds and was surprised that there was no parallax scrolling present. The graphics may be much closer to the arcade, but the lack of that effect really makes the levels seem very "flat", for lack of a better word. I do think that if the Genesis version had a bit more development time, as well as more ROM memory, they could have made it near arcade perfect. The lack of a 2 player option and limited button config on the standard TG16 controllers is also a bummer too.
Many moons ago I had a PC Engine with the CD player at the side. I had about 6 CDs and about 8 cards, I paid on £20 for it. But I did not have the AV cable for it. I used to play the CDs and listen to the audio, now, its gone.
Much appreciated for your help. I took a look at ebay and I was confused. This info is really helpful. This is another reason I like Game Sack, you respond to your fans. Thanks again man.
Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. But what I actually meant was if all jewell cases come in an additional cardboard outer box or just some of them.
Awesome video guys. Everytime I think I have my NES/SNES/Genesis/Sega CD collections where I want them, I watch one of your videos which gives me more stuff to hunt down. This freakin' youtube channel is keeping me on a Ramen Noodles diet! I'd love to start collecting for the TG-16, but dang! It's not a cheap system to collect for. I rarely see anything for the TG-16 in the wild. It certainly would take some time and money to gather some of these gems off of ebay.
Great video! With the Wii VC e-shop closing down at the end of the year I will definitely be buying more Turbo-16 games. This video gives me a great idea of what to look for. You guys should do a series on great Wii VC and WiiWare games. That feature of the Wii is so underrated. Keep up the great work!
MiSTer has gotten me into shmups, thanks for this list, other than emulation, I never got to experience the TG16, so now I'm loving having it available
TurboGrafx 16 is the most powerful 8 bit console ever created!!! So powerful infact, that it easily competes and surpasses graphicly the 16 bit consoles of the same generation!!!!
TG16 had a ton of shooters. I have some. I like the way yall gave all the games equal show by using the time frame of the music. Did anyone else notice that? Long live the cool Tg16. Good video. I'll be raisin' the bar to yaq.. What? Heh. Good day!
I really love playing awesome shoot em'ups on PC Engine and Turbografx-16 on Card and CD Game was Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, Raiden, Super Raiden, Blazing Laser, R-Type, Cotton, Gradius, Salamender, Fantasy Zone, Detana Twinbee, Star Parodia, Gate of Thunder, Galaga 88, Darius Plus, Sidearms, Cybercore, Aero Blasters, Ordyne, Nexzr and Super Darius 2
Forgotten Worlds! YEAH! Such a great game and I only ever played it on Genesis. Seeing this makes me wish I had a Turbo Grafx 16 but I don't even remember seeing one in Europe at all. Really want to get my hands on Thunder Force and Lords Of Thunder, those two look and sound amazing. Great show as always and I'm glad we saw some Forgotten Worlds love!
I think Blazing Lazers was a better game then some of the ones you lead with. I still play Blazing Lazers today. Not many games match the it in so many ways. Thanks for the video.
@@PortableXombie agreed. It's refreshing to see games other than blazing lazers/gunhed, getting mentioned for once. Everybody and their mothers know about that game and the star soldier titles so nothing is lost. I wish more people talked about 'aldynes', 'parodius', 'tatsujin' and 'gradius 2' instead of hearing about how bitchin the lords of thunder ost is or how pricy 'magical chase' is for the millionth time.
Hey Mr. GameSack cool review. You probably know this already but I didn't hear this mentioned. Side Arms is a two player arcade game Forgotton Worlds is also a two player arcade game. Forgotton Worlds is also a two player Genesis game with its parallax scrolling intact where as according to you the TG-16 version is only one player with arcade type sprites arranged CD music but no parallax scrolling from what I saw in your video.
I used to own the Genesis version of forgotten worlds, highly underated for the system. Its great, never had an arcade in town that actually had the arcade version of the game so i cant compare the 2, but its definitely worth a try on Genesis!
I love your videos! Have you guys ever considered going to Magfest? You should do an episode on that event. I loved this episode btw! I had forgotten how hard I laughed when my friend first showed me Rayzambar 2 and I heard the intro!! Your videos are really the best!
Decent video but you guys should have covered some of the good shooters more at the end like Blazing Lazers, I think that's one of the best if not the best shooters on the system but still good video.
From the side-by-sides, it looks like the Genesis sometimes benefits from the lower colour pallete, because it forced the developers to put in greater contrast between the colours, which make elements pop more. I say "sometimes," though, because Lords of Thunder is an obvious exception.
I wish more of these greats would have seen release for the Wii Virtual Console service. For some odd reason there hasn't been a TurboGrafx or PC Engine release for over a year now. Perhaps there was a falling out from Hudson and Nintendo for the classic TurboGrafx games which I'm seeing more of on my PS Vita or PS 3. Still I'm proud to have owned the original system during its brief time in the spotlight complete with the CD attachment which was a blast! I just wish more games hit the VC on Wii
My ratings for some of the games you covered:- Air Zonk-8/10 (last level is brutal) Super Air Zonk-8.5/10 (plays smoother) L-Dis-8/10 (very underrated, and you guys were too harsh to this game) Sidearms-8/10 (Side arms special is better) Sidearms special-9/10 (love the CD music in this) Forgotten Worlds-7/10 (awkward controls) Gate of thunder-9/10 Lords of thunder-9.5/10 Rayxanber II-8.5/10 Rayxanber III-7/10 Blazing lazers-8/10 Sinistron-9/10 Metamor Jupiter-6/10 Image Fight II-8/10
You most certainly do, considering that i've watched almost all of your videos the same day i found the channel I just think it's a waste to leave it at that when there's so much more interesting stuff to cover just because you've already covered many of them. And yeah i know my response had nothing to do with the message. I just have this tendency to overlook the fact that i'm responding to something specific when i see the name of the video creator in the comment box.
Ok start with the desert level and collect as much money as you can. Than continue beating the stages counter clockwise (easy>hard).Use an appropriate weapon for each level (fire armor for ice, and water armor for fire). Also, there are health items in many levels, so learn their location. Many bosses rely on patterned attacks, so take the time to learn them. Also save most of your currency for the last 3-4 levels. Try to spend as little as possible in first 3 levels, and rely on ur skill.
Oh that pun at the end. DOHOHOHOHO! A little disappointed that there was no mention of Dead Moon for the TG-16. It's a bit on the easy side and the graphics aren't exactly mindblowing, but the music is seriously fantastic!
I'd also really appreciate it if i could ask what controller you used to play forgotten worlds? Cause i got it and it doesn't control well with the standard duo pad, so then i bought a avenue pad 6 and its not compatible. So its gonna be really annoying if i could only play it with a avenue pad 3. Thanks
@TheShadyProfessor Are you referring to Forgotten Worlds? It’s not really fair to compare the two ports. The Genesis port came out in Jap in 89 and was only a 4 meg cart. The PCE version came out in 92 and was a Super CD 2 game that was probably hundreds of megs.
bbutters2 "It would have been cool if Whitesnake actually did do the score though." Whitesnake weren't "80's hair metal", they were a blues band then a led-zeppelin-esque rock n roll band with some ballads and then some sort of heavier metal-ish band when Doug Aldritch joined. Poison were a true Hair Metal band.
In comparison to other home versions at the time, these are the best Neo Geo ports, and I proved my point that there are some decent fighting games for the system. I don't knew where you are trying to take this discussion.
Man, that was really packed with info. I must have written down half a dozen games for my TG16 Wanted List. Thanks guys!
creeper
Always were a poser metal jesus
KEEP ROCKING METALJESUS thankyou for hours of entertainment! I often write down games from your hidden gems list as well, between you and the guys at game sack i have a nice pc engine cd collection that I routinely play !

I had Sidearms on the C64 and played it forever since, well, I my family was too poor to buy any other games, so it has a real soft spot in my heart.
Glad you focused on one of the very best songs in Lords of Thunder. That entire soundtrack is just flat out amazing
yea, seriously lords of thunder has the greatest turbografx music ive ever heard
We've learned that pretty much no matter what we do, we can't win. And many games aren't worth talking in depth about. Been waiting for this one! Every time you guys post an episode I run out and buy a game or two, and this time will be no different.
@MRabbitFrog Every day? In order to do that we'd have to put in 8 hour+ days so maybe $100,000k+ a year? I'd be afraid of running out of stuff to cover.
I remember watching this episode when I was 11, it got me into the PCengine.
I'm 23 now, and still love this system.
Finally you guys reviewed some good games! Thanks for giving Raisinbar lots of love it's totally badass and the soundtrack is one of the best ever.
Still waiting for the CDi episode you guys promised though....
Can't beleive I have only just discovered this episode! Brilliant list on an impossible task. The only AAA shooter I think you missed was Nexzr.
awesome episode! love the turbo and love shooters!!
I just got a turbografx 16. Love this console. Thanks for the great videos guys.
That montage instrumental was so good! Awesome vid, guys!
Personally, I'd say Star Parodier and Lords of Thunder are my top contenders for Numbero Uno TG-16 shmup! The Soldier games are top-notch as well.
The early games all had outer cardboard boxes including CD games. Jewel cases were inside. When the Duo came out, CD games came in jewel cases and no cardboard and card games came in cardboard boxes but no jewel case. This is US only. I was all jewel-case only in Japan.
that montage at the end was epic
I love how Joe gave exactly 4 bars for each of the clips in the montage. Very cool.
I think you should do a video "The Most Adorable Cute-Em-Ups."
All the power ups are in "Moon Language". Fantastic.
When the foreground and background scroll at different speeds to simulate depth.
10:50 I recently played the TG16 CD Forgotten Worlds and was surprised that there was no parallax scrolling present. The graphics may be much closer to the arcade, but the lack of that effect really makes the levels seem very "flat", for lack of a better word.

Absolutely loved this video, great work dudes!
REALLY great show guys! Funny and informational, as always! Keep it up!

I took a shot every time you guys said "for the most part" in your videos...and I died.
In every episode you can hear ''ANYWAY'' XD
Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. But what I actually meant was if all jewell cases come in an additional cardboard outer box or just some of them.
9:50 _"This version takes place before Jesus was born and that makes this game sooo much better!"_
=D made my day
Awesome video guys. Everytime I think I have my NES/SNES/Genesis/Sega CD collections where I want them, I watch one of your videos which gives me more stuff to hunt down. Great list, I'm trying to collect more PC Engine shooters so thanks! My ebay list is getting pretty full! haha
@Number1StarSB That would have been redundant since I pointed out the Turbo version specifically was single player.
TurboGrafx 16 is the most powerful 8 bit console ever created!!! So powerful infact, that it easily competes and surpasses graphicly the 16 bit consoles of the same generation!!!!
Neo Geo was a different beast altogether though.
TG16 had a ton of shooters. I have some. I like the way yall gave all the games equal show by using the time frame of the music. Did anyone else notice that?
Long live the cool Tg16. Good video. I'll be raisin' the bar to yaq.. What? Heh. Good day!
Blazing Lazers and R-Type are my initial "go-to" games for this console and are still two of the best shooters the TG-16/CD has to offer.
I have the Turbographx mini and it is full of shoot em ups. I love it Sapphire is so fun
Best show in town as always, tnx guys :)
Yet again amazing, great choice of games in this one
10:19 that staple Capcom powerup always sends a nostalgia chill through my spine..
I really love playing awesome shoot em'ups on PC Engine and Turbografx-16 on Card and CD Game was Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, Raiden, Super Raiden, Blazing Laser, R-Type, Cotton, Gradius, Salamender, Fantasy Zone, Detana Twinbee, Star Parodia, Gate of Thunder, Galaga 88, Darius Plus, Sidearms, Cybercore, Aero Blasters, Ordyne, Nexzr and Super Darius 2
The acting in these old videos is supreme
Another stellar episode! never did own a turbo grafx but wo
I'm not sure he actually smacked Joe but despite my skepticism I give this episode another thumbs up. Nicely played.
Forgotten Worlds! YEAH! Such a great game and I only ever played it on Genesis. Seeing this makes me wish I had a Turbo Grafx 16 but I don't even remember seeing one in Europe at all. I think Blazing Lazers was a better game then some of the ones you lead with. I still play Blazing Lazers today. Not many games match the it in so many ways. Thanks for the video.
I realize this is a old comment but this is exactly why I like this video.

The parallax in spriggan 2 is absolutely amazing
Awesome episode as always!
That game has great music but I don't recall anything about Whitesnake. I'll have to double-check.
Hey Mr. GameSack cool review. You probably know this already but I didn't hear this mentioned. Side Arms is a two player arcade game Forgotton Worlds is also a two player arcade game. Love these NEC systems. I have the SuperGraphx + Super CD2 but, also the SSDS3, PC Henshin & Arcade Duo Cards.
AWESOME SAUCE EPISODE!!! Seriously I need to get a TG-16, or a DUO, as it's an awesome system.
I loved the game cards on the TG16.
Matthew Brown yeah the hue cards are sweet man
Good watch, thanks guys, keep up the good work!
I love your videos! Have you guys ever considered going to Magfest? You should do an episode on that event. I loved this episode btw! I had forgotten how hard I laughed when my friend first showed me Rayzambar 2 and I heard the intro!! Your videos are really the best!
Game Sack: The only show that I sit in front of the TV and constantly writing notes.
What a great episode. How come you guys STILL don't have tons of subscribers? The quality here is too good.
Decent video but you guys should have covered some of the good shooters more at the end like Blazing Lazers, I think that's one of the best if not the best shooters on the system but still good video.
Man that silly pun at the end was really raisin bar for future puns...
have you done any videos of a console named the fm towns?
hahaha love the end!!!!
From the side-by-sides, it looks like the Genesis sometimes benefits from the lower colour pallete, because it forced the developers to put in greater contrast between the colours, which make elements pop more. I say "sometimes," though, because Lords of Thunder is an obvious exception.
Joe's reaction to the raisin bar is the same reaction I had to his reaction😂
holy crap those guitars are amazing!!
Boy, you guys sure were "Raisin' the Bar" in terms of comedy with that joke at the end there :V
4:10 Weebl?
I like shmups, but I totally suck at them despite playing them for years.
Great review as always, and I love pun humour :D
XD Those BC jokes just killed me
You guys are awesome!
Does anyone know what music is played during the montage 17:43 ?
@MrGameSack Yeah I'm pretty sure you guys said it would be sometime in March 2012 as well.
I wish more of these greats would have seen release for the Wii Virtual Console service. For some odd reason there hasn't been a TurboGrafx or PC Engine release for over a year now. the 90's had a load of shooters/SMUPS, Fighting games and 2D platformers.
too many episodes about shoot em ups. You guys must REALLY like them.
My ratings for some of the games you covered:-
Air Zonk-8/10 (last level is brutal)
Super Air Zonk-8.5/10 (plays smoother)
L-Dis-8/10 (very underrated, and you guys were too harsh to this game)
Sidearms-8/10 (Side arms special is better)
Sidearms special-9/10 (love the CD music in this)
Forgotten Worlds-7/10 (awkward controls)
Gate of thunder-9/10
Lords of thunder-9.5/10
Rayxanber II-8.5/10
Rayxanber III-7/10
Blazing lazers-8/10
Sinistron-9/10
Metamor Jupiter-6/10
Image Fight II-8/10
@elabit We did?

Yeah, don't let something like a comfortable chair hold you back from greatness.
4:26
my mystery game I used to play for a long time finally solved! 😭😭
@MRabbitFrog If we knew we wouldn't tell you, we'd be doing it!
Still the best end skit!
So, what do you guys think of Image Fight 2?? I've heard that it's super difficult. I LOVE the first Image Fight; even the NES port!
Oh that pun at the end. DOHOHOHOHO!
A little disappointed that there was no mention of Dead Moon for the TG-16. It's a bit on the easy side and the graphics aren't exactly mindblowing, but the music is seriously fantastic!
Great episode I love shooters! You cover as much of amazing games as you can and people are still what about this or what about that game LOL!
@Heroelime Same exact location as last week's. :)
Gradius I and salamander r missing,twinbee also
Ai Chou Aniki is disturbingly awesome.
Thanks
Damn, I gotta try that Saphire game one of these days. I played the hell out of Air Zonk though.
@jbmaru We count it but we don't have it. :(
4:09
That egg creature looks like Ike Broflovski from South Park. Now i know why they call it a cute-em-up. It's like an egg baby!!!
"Did you find the guy?"
"I'll finish you today for sure."

Nicely done guys. :)
WHAT IS THAT MONTAGE MUSIC?? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP, So good
