Would be at 6 in my all time World XV. WHAT a player.

That back row of Hill, Dallaglio and Rodber must be one of England's best ever.

My favourite player ever. The epitome of silent excellence - he is recognised now for work that people never saw which made a big success for England back then

Was at this game - obvious what a great player Hill was from the off....

The best England player of all time.

Woodward played him at 8 when dropping Dallaglio, at 7 when dropping Back and, of course, at 6. So, effectively, he was England’s best back-rower in all three positions for much of his England career. And a lovely guy to boot…

He was a superb player and the reason we lost the Lions Tour in Oz when Oz player deliberately used his forearm/elbow and gave him concussion!

@@countycricklewood The Aussies couldn't handle him so had to resort to the nasties. We would have taken the series if he had not been injured.

A quiet colossus. Man of the Lions series. Would be a first pick in any national team.

It’s impressive to see how many fathers of present day players were in this game.

Always great to see someone who is instantly undroppable.

A totally underrated player, but what a player. The good old days of putting big scores on opponents, a far cry from what mediocrity we have now especially losing to Scotland 4 times in a row!!

And real warriors like Hill,Rodber, Johnno, Dallaglio and Shaw.

He's not under-rated by anyone who knows anything about rugby.

Exactly my thoughts when we had a pack to scare all oppositions. 😮

@@simonburrows240 I agree to the most ardent supporter, but to the casual observer, he wasn't a household name like Wilkinson, Johnno was then. I can only think of Ben Earle in the current team that holds a light with previous flankers, Backie, Lawrence, Richards and Winterbottom.

I remember Hill covering a huge amount of ground to make a try-saving tackle in the corner but I can’t work out which game. Any ideas anyone?

All 8 of the pack were involved in the Lions tour a few months later.
