As someone who enjoys Euro-style games, Pirates of Maracaibo has been a favourite of mine for the last six months. I would highly recommend the Ruby expansion, as it is small, and most of their expansions are modular and quick to incorporate. The playmat is arriving today and will be extremely helpful. Overall, it is one of my best and most loved games this year, so I am thrilled you have had a chance to try it out. Cheers
I'm glad you're having fun with it! I'm curious to try the Ruby expansion now. :)
Just ordered this one and looking forward to playing. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts!
Thanks Rodney!
@@jameystegmaier And hey, it just arrived!
I like the idea of having randomness at the start of the game and more agency at the end! Feels like a perfect way to prevent swinginess at the end, while still having a sense of exploration in the game. Lost Ruins of Arnak has that too, as well as Eclipse. I guess Expeditions as well, but I haven't played that yet.
I agree, it's neat to add to a sense of exploration while still providing perfect information for the current board state.
yess I love this game so fun
Picked this up recently and enjoyed my play so much I grabbed the official playmat: it makes setting up so much easier. While I absolutely agree it is quite different from Maracaibo I do find that I get the same "vibe" from it. I am keeping both but that's mostly due to Maracaibo's excellent co-op mode. If they ever develop one for PoM I will likely just keep this one as its weight is a bit more in my wheelhouse.
I can see how the playmat would speed up setup!
