UNiversity of Santo Tomas Singers Just recently won another over all grand price 4 days ago. UST SINGERS WINS GRAND PRIZE AT THE GRIEG INTERNATIONAL CHOIR COMPETITION 2024 Besting 30 other choirs from 10 nations, Prof. Fidel Calalang, Jr. and the UST Singers also won the FIRST PRIZE in the Mixed Choir category and SECOND PRIZE in the Folk category which catapulted them to compete in the Grand Prix Finale to win the Grand Prix Award in Bergen, Norway.
Historically, Filipino choirs have been winning prestigious choral competitiions for many, many years now. But it’s just nice to see them featured more and appreciated. We have you to thank for that. Btw, the Philippine Madrigals were the first to have won the EGP twice. They vied for a 3rd one but lost to a children’s choir back in 2017. Many felt they genuinely deserved the 1st but I guess a third EGP win is going to be a harder win, they would be the first to win 3x if they did.
It’s so nice to hear you speak Tagalog. BTW did you know Tagalog is the number 4 most spoken language in the US after English, Spanish and Chinese? That Harvard University is now offering this language course. So keep leaning Tagalog❤️
Hi Ovela, we are aware of the winnings of choirs in the international scene but it is very hard to monitor each one because there are lots as in hundreds of choirs competing in diff parts of the world. Also, did you know that ALMOST all highschool, colleges and universities have their own choirs? That is also through different towns, municipalities, cities, provinces and almost every government agencies.
You're amazing but as a group, you're spectacular! Unbelievable work you're all doing. Congratulations and good luck in CDM's greatest challenge yet: winning the European grand prix in Spain next year.
