- Hey guys! Today I I dug up some more of my old, childhood artwork and chose a drawing that I am going to re-do them as an adult and see if I can improve it!
This is kinda similar to the "draw this again" challenges I've seen from other youtubers. I was originally going to title this "Re-doing my childhood artwork." BUT I realized this video has a super similar format to my squishy makeovers. There's an art critique section (squishy roasting) and it's all about taking something that doesn't look it's best and transforming it into something new.

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh 😂 ) and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 27 and like doing anything creative...and being snarky.....just a lil. I make a lot of decorating, painting and general art videos here. I'm obsessed with editing and adding lil bits to my videos, so if that's not your thing....oof you may hate this haha. I paint on squishies, thrift store finds, and other random things I pick up. I also love to draw, but don't expect anything too skilled, I'm not the best at that haha. This unlocked a childhood memory for me! I think the hedgehog + mitten art piece is related to the children's book "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. It's about a hedgehog and some other forest animals cuddling in a mitten to keep warm.

I think you were recreating a scene from the book The Mitten by Jan Brett in your original drawing. A series of animals including a hedgehog find a boy’s mitten and try to curl up inside to stay warm. It’s a super cute story I like to read my students during winter. Another great one that features a hedgehog by Jan Brett is called The Hat. One of your teachers probably read it to you and that’s why you drew the picture.

They were popular in the 90s thanks to the Forever Friends cards and stationery (I have a ruler from then with a hedgehog on it). Plus there were lots of stuffed animals of hedgehogs.

MORIAH YOU SHOULD PAINT A CHESS BOARD WITH LITTLE PIECES THAT YOU SCULPT AS YOUR CHARACTERS! Basically one character for pawn and another for knight and so on! My guess is you drew the hedgehog after reading The Mitten. It’s a Ukrainian folktale about a lost mitten becoming a cozy home during a snowstorm. Highly recommend acquiring a copy for Mini-ME’s library. It’s a beautifully illustrated book and a lovely story. I have fond memories of my brother reading it to my niece on her first Christmas.

I genuinely think moriahs drawing skill has improved so much over the past few years especially that hedgehog the level of detail was so cool and neat to see from moriah especially if you look at when she used to draw (which were still good dont get me wrong) but its just cool to see the comparisons even if she doesnt necessarily notice it

The hedgehog is adorable! Such a fun idea to take every aspect of the childhood drawing and incorporate it subtly in the new one.
I'd love to see you do a spin-off video/series some day in a sort of "recreating my toddler's art work" style. I know she's only a baby now, so art might be a long way off, but could be fun, even if it's just trying to find sense in scribbles.
Although it sounds like a really fun idea now, it could have issues for her kid down the line. My mom used to redo my artwork as a kid and it made me fully lose confidence and interest in art. I thought I couldn't draw for the longest time until adulthood

Next time you should photocopy the drawing you choose(if you don't want to Change the original) and fix it by drawing, colouring, painting etc.... Love your creativiti❤️

For another perspective I think the hedgehog is on a hill with the beach in the background and the green things are cacti. Either way the new one is absolutely adorable.

✨ Video idea:✨ buy a dollhouse and dedicate each room to one of your favourite caracters and sculpt the caracters that go in their rooms . Then color the furniture.

Hey Moriah, I’m thinking your original artwork is based off of the story “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. It has a hedgehog character and when teachers read it to children, they often emphasize the borders that are used to tell the reader what is going to happen next!

I love it. To help with the gloves to mitts, just add some knitted texture with a color pencil. Like you did on the basket.

Yes! But the book is actually "The Mitten". The book is exactly what I thought of when she started talking about a hedgehog and then followed with mittens. Glad I'm not the only one that thought that 😅
@@goldeneagleskye9506 :) no, I meant 'The Hat," because that's the one with the hedgehog. But he wears a sock, whereas "The Mitten" is an actual red mitten...so maybe a mixture of both?? Either way, in glad I'm not the only one to think of Brett's books!
@@jross7764 I haven't read them for a while so I didn't remember about The Hat. But one of the animals in The Mitten is a hedgehog, too. I think Brett liked hedgehogs because they're in several of her books.
