  • SYMPTOMS OF A REAR MAIN SEAL LEAK (Causes, Cost & Solutions). In this video, we’re going to talk about the symptoms of a rear main seal leak. A rear main seal is a component in a car's engine that seals the gap between the crankshaft and the engine block to prevent oil from leaking out.
What are the dangers of a rear main seal leak?
Loss of engine oil: A leaky rear main seal can cause a gradual loss of engine oil, leading to insufficient lubrication and potential engine damage.
Oil contamination: Leaking oil can contaminate other engine components, such as the timing belt or serpentine belt, causing them to slip, stretch or fail.
Safety risks: If the engine loses too much oil, the car may suddenly lose power, stall, or experience other dangerous malfunctions while driving.

This is good information but it depends on the engine. There are quite a few engines that don't require the engine to be removed to replace the rear main seal. For example, the jeep 4.0 I6 only requires the oil pan to be removed to replace the main seal which can be done at home.

You could remove the transmission instead on most v8s which is easy to do? Drop the drive shaft, drop the trans mission, clear opening to remain seal. Now a engine that sits side ways unbolt mounts jack up fix and lower.

This information was so bad. Here’s a recap
If your real main seal is cracked, it will leak. If it leaks, your car will lose oil. If your car loses oil, the oil pressure light will turn on. If it leaks, oil will get on the ground. If it leaks, oil could land on hot parts. If you need to fix it. Have a professional do it.
