    The unknown child has now been proven not to be Eino Viljami Panula as was previously thought and the epilogue states. They have now absolutely identified the unknown child as 19 month old Sidney Leslie Goodwin. The Goodwin's were third class passengers on the Titanic. They were a English family headed for a new life in Niagara Falls, N.Y when they all perished. A pair of shoe's kept from the recovered body ( held in the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic) and re-examination of the DNA by the U.S. Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory in Maryland proved that Sidney was the unknown child. The shoes had been saved by Clarence Northover, a Halifax police sergeant in 1912, who helped guard the bodies and belongings of the Titanic victims, according to the museum's website. All of the recovered victim's clothing were burned to stop souvenir hunters. Northover couldn't bring himself to burn the little shoes, and when no relatives claimed them, he put the shoes in his desk drawer at the police station. In 2002, his grandson Earle Northover donated them to the museum. These shoes were too large for a 13 month old to wear, and were a big clue that the only other contender, Panula, was not the unknown child. The new DNA tests found a marker that proved with 98% certainty that Goodwin was the unknown child. This positive identification means that out of his parents Frederick and Augusta, and five siblings, little Sidney's were the only remains recovered. The family have not changed the headstone to bear Sidney's name. They feel that the tombstone of the unknown child represents *all* of the children who perished on the Titanic, and have left it that way in their honor.

      HOW SICK IS IT, TO SEPARATE HUMAN BEINGS INTO "CLASSES", BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF MONEY EACH POSSESSES?!?

    • @LittleKitty22
      @LittleKitty22 4 года назад +3

      Yup, and here in the UK a person's standing in society is still measured by how much their house is worth. The more their property is worth - the more they get respected, believed, taken serious. Even if one applies for jobs, the prospective employers google one's address - and if one lives in a property that's not worth a lot, one doesn't stand a chance getting that job.
      Many people in the UK (in England at least) still believe that the poor are poor because they are too stupid and lazy to better their situation, whilst at the same time social mobility is impossible because the system is set up to keep the poor in poverty.
      And anyone who is poor, or assumed to be poor, still gets treated with contempt, looked down on, fobbed off, chased away, and automatically assumed to be criminal, uneducated, a troublemaker, unreliable, unemployed and unemployable, untrustworthy and retarded.

    • @Bambisgf77

      @@MissPresley69it’s not sick, it’s commerce! Not a single person was forced on that ship! Yes it’s horribly tragic what happened to all of the people, but to call the pricing of cabins on a commercial ship “sick” is ridiculous. The investors who paid to build this ship wanted a return on the investment. There is nothing wrong with that.

We HAVE the technology whey dont we USE it??? Maybe someone will dig them up one day and DNA test the remains of the descendants as well, and bury them together...

I think it is really cool how some 90 years later we can use DNA from bone fragments to determine who they are, amazing.

  • @MrCutsteel

    Burial at sea is not the same as 'throwing the bodies into the sea'. It would have been done in a respectful manner in the context of a proper burial service.
    The fact is, bodies don't last, even ff they aren't buried at sea. They are usually either cremated or buried in the earth to rot away and dissolve. What matters is respecting the human dignity of the people they once were, and a proper burial at sea does that.

    It's VERY upsetting that many of these people were never found. All of their loved ones only had memories, nothing to go and grieve to. It's terrible to think that bodies were also thrown over board because of class. They do have names that matter, and we can only pray that the survivors and victims are together again. All the survivors has passed on. The Titanic truly took everyone down with her now. That little boy story was touching to hear now. It's amazing that he was IDed.

    Eino Viljami Panula, based on DNA testing of three teeth and a small, weathered bone. [6] However, with improved DNA testing available in 2007, Canadian researchers at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay tested the child's HVS1, a type of mitochondrial DNA molecule, and it did not match the Panula family DNA extracted from the exhumed remains and DNA provided by a surviving maternal relative helped positively match the remains to Goodwin, and the re-identification was announced on 30 July 2007.

    I heard from another documentary that someone at White Star said that if they put more boats on the ship the passengers would be scarred, thinking that the ship has so many boats because they are expecting something to happen to it.

    So sad what these people went through all those years ago. The terror and fear they must of felt knowing they were going to die. The children scared the mothers in panic so sad. If only Titanic took measures to make sure all passengers could make out safely. So sad to know many victims pulled from the water went unidentified leaving the families in grief all their lives. Glad to know the child was identified though so one family can have peace. R.I.P Titanic & Her victims

      It seems crazy that the number of lifeboats used to be determined by a ships TONNAGE, not number of people onboard! The equation apparently worked for many years until the dawn of giant ships, like the Titanic. The top end of the lifeboat calculation was a specific tonnage & above. No one dreamed how big liners would eventually become, demanding new standards!

    When the Titanic sank and the ship split into then the lights went out before and it was all darkness nothing else and you can hear the screams of the people who were in the water because the water was 28 degrees and 30 mins you would freeze to death and the people holding on for dear life knew they didn't have a chance! They probbaly said my god this is it! They didn't have any lifeboats and the third class passengers had no chance! I am sure the bodies sunk into the sea when Titanic went down and then so did they! So many people, women, men, children, dogs, babies, and the crew and the band played on when Titanic sank. They went out till the end. I think that there are ghosts at the bottom of Titanic those souls who are not at rest! It was a beautiful ship

    Don't know why I clicked on this, so depressing. What will always bother me about this is the grim story of entire immigrant families being wiped out and any hopes of a new life dumped to the icey bottom of the North Atlantic. Worse that their bodies were never recovered or even identified for a proper burial.
    I can't help but think of the numerous scenarios that could have gone down for them whether they were separated, lost in the maze inside the ship or getting on the decks just as the all the life boats were gone. The Goodwins, Sages, Anderssons, Panulas and numerous others didn't deserve this fate smh

    All those poor people , The third class passengers were treated appallingly, many never stood a chance, These children should have been prioritised, some were, but many were not. I will never understand the class society, what makes a wealthy person any better than a poor person ?, The class system still applies today, but in times of tragedy, there should never be such a disgusting system in place. A banker should never have priority over a toilet cleaner.

      I'd be willing to bet, given how fast ocean currents work, that at least 1/3 to 1/2 of Titanic's victims floating on the ocean were never found. They drifted until the canvas lifejackets rotted, then broke off, and sank.

  • @astupidname100
    @astupidname100 11 лет назад

    It was a matter of practicalities to let those bodies sink. They didn't have a way to preserve them like they could today. At least long enough to get back to land. Imagine spending two weeks at sea with a hold full of decaying corpses. Not a nice thought. The bodies left behind had probably began to decay or had been unidentifiable due to injury or sea critters.

      I did see a few yrs. make this program on tv 1 night like 1 of those unsolved mystery shows this woman bought a piece of coal that came from the Titanic & she was in her kitchen & she said an older man started appearing at her kitchen window standing outside staring in at her dressed in like that period of clothing.She said he just looked like he would have been 1 of those men that was over the boilers feeding it coal.Scary huh I thought so anyhow I would have put something up over my window so I didn't see him nomore & just pray to God that he make him go away.
