    Another great and informative video Chris. On the 28th I was out there and did have a few times were the FF had the same marks on the bottom as you showed. I tried dropping a jig on those multiple times but did not get any reaction or even marks showing a fish checking it out. I was trolling and drifting a fly lined mac the whole time and they never got any attention, even sealions nearby. I think the sealions didn't care cause they were getting their own bait as it was all over the place that day. I think I'm going to have to start having a second line out with a carolina rig on the lower collum. I used to do that a few years back, but had gotten tired of having to deal with tangles on the two lines. Even having different amount of line didn't always help. I find that the fly lined macs will almost always find the other line and circle around it. It doesn't matter if it's the sabiki or a weighted line. You seem to be having a lot more good luck lately then anybody else I know. Tight lines!

    I did that about 4 weeks ago using a 1 ounce chovi hook up bait. Sitting on the bottom attending to another line and something was playing with it. As I gently picked up the pole laying across my lap a 17# yellow tail took off. Medium pole and reel. 30# braid, 20# leader. 20 minute fight.

    Nice video! I’ve only caught yt on flyline so far and never thought of using Carolina rig! 👍 When you use Carolina rig do you let it sink all the way to bottom or do you just troll around with it at certain depth but like flyline? And do you just put in freespool with clicker on? Thank you for very informative videos!

    • @chrisblevinsfishing
      @chrisblevinsfishing  4 года назад +1

      Brian Yoon I will do both. Dragging on the bottom or trolling it suspended. Usually free spool clicker in is enough to stop the bait from taking line but sometimes you have to use the gear. Thanks for watching!

    So, I've seen videos where you use the reverse dropper loop rig for presenting a live bait at depth. What are the factors you consider when deciding between a carolina rig and the rdl for deep bait fishing? Thanks!

    • @chrisblevinsfishing
      @chrisblevinsfishing  3 года назад +1

      Hi Chris, thanks for commenting. C-rig is the go to setup when the fish are marking mid-column. I dont troll RDL because the line will usually twist, so if the fish are deep and I want to troll, I will use c-rig. If I'm dropping on marks or drifting areas with deep bait or marks, the RDL is the way to go. But also, it kinda depends on what kind of mood I'm in and how much ground I want to cover. If I'm really moving around alot, and the fish arent on the surface, I will usually have a c-rig. You can also fish a c-rig and RDL at the same time if you let out lots of line and drag the c-rig on the bottom on a drift. The c-rig is no good for dropping on marks because the mack can take out line and swim against the weight. Cheers!

      @@chrisblevinsfishing What weight sinker do you generally use for fishing 80-100ft? Do you have any tips on how to tell how deep your bait is trolling? Are you just dropping to the bottom and then picking up speed to bring it off the bottom?

    • @chrisblevinsfishing
      @chrisblevinsfishing  3 года назад +1

      The launch is cool, you can drive onto the beach to load/unload your kayak. The surf is pretty variable. During the summer on south swells it's like laucnhing into a lake. In the fall and winter months, you get more north and north west swells which can create significant surf that needs to be contended with. I fish for yellowtail all over the water column. As I said in the video I use a 3-4oz sliding egg for the c-rig. Thanks for watching!

They are usually on the move hunting around for bait and I’ve caught them between 10’ deep and 300’ deep. Usually I will search for them on the sonar and when I see where they are cruising I’ll try to keep working that general area
