Their associates steal they sell it and the following week the cars come one by one to pick up their envelope. Some are dumb enough to keep it in hand as they walk back to their cars, others are good at keeping up appearances by bringing a food item or something to make it look like a visit but same, few minutes of chatter, look around, leave. @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Месяц назад

@@Herbie11 Ah yes. Vote republican. That will solve all of your problems!
I love people like you. Not very smart and you don't care about facts, because if you did, you would have done a basic google search to see if what you said made sense. Before I responded, I actually searched for "catalytic converter thefts by state". GUESS WHAT I FOUND? The number two state in the country for catalytic converter thefts is Texas. Remind me who's the governor of that state again. OH THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S GREG ABBOTT. Isn't her republican? And this isn't total number, it's per 100,000 registered cars, so you can't use the, "Well of course! There are more people in Texas" argument.
Now, with that said, I will agree that democratic states need to get tougher with criminals like this. If they're caught once, you can't just call it petty crime and let them out. If it were me, you cause $4K worth of damage to someone's car, then you need to pay them back times 3, so $12K is what you owe them. And that bill will carry interest and will be attached to you for the rest of your life, so you've got to do the math to see if ruining your life over $40 in gas is worth it.

It doesn't take much brains to drill a hole in a gas tank. That's probably one of the dumbest crimes out there. You'd be better of stealing from department stores than crawling around underneath cars for $30-40 if they have at least half a tank of gas.

More common is siphoning with a hose. I always put a locking gas cap on my vehicles. I found my non locking filler door open one morning so it appears someone made an attempt. In this case I believe they forced the door open because they needed to remove the cap to vent the tank so the gas would quickly drain, so a locking cap would be useful in either case. Cars prior to about 1975 had vented fuel tanks so removing the cap wouldn't be necessary.
