I just found out about this film 2 days ago and I love it!!! It’s so realistic and such a classic, I’m so sad it’s not much promoted in UK here or more talked about much in the US! I’m deffo gonna try and promote it 😀🙏🏼 it deserves more recognition!
Elizabeth Silva Salgado I'm from the Uk, and this is my favourite movie ( along with Cruel Intentions) It was my mother's favourite movie when I was little. It was on a lot in our house. My mum was working in New York a lot at the time, and, even though it wasn't The Bronx that she worked, she used to watch it a lot when she came back to the UK because I think it took her back there. Now that she has lived there for 10 years, it's me that watches it everytime I come back from visiting. Again, she doesn't live in The Bronx, but there is just something about the movie and it's soundtrack that transports the person watching.
MsMilano awww thank you for sharing this with me! The movie is so wonderful as you say because it really transports the person to the NY Latino environment! May I ask are you also Latino or are you English? And do you visit NY often? :) I’ve always wanted to live in NY ever since I visited the first time back when I was 9! Plus I have my aunt and uncle there but I’ve never been able to properly visit, as I’m under 21 and my family are very Christian. Which is such a bummer, but I’ve promised myself that once I graduate university I will go for 2 weeks and visit as much as I can on my own or with a friend! Or even hopefully get a job over there for at least 2 years! I would love that! It would be such a dream come true! I just wish the US would improve their health care system and their job benefits! Otherwise I would have flown there as soon as I graduated high school! Lol
Elizabeth Silva Salgado You should definitely come to NYC! I must tell you visiting is very different than living here but I love it! My parents are from India and I was born in the states.
Elizabeth Silva Salgado It's a really great movie :) No, I'm not Latina. I'm half Italian :) I visit New York twice a year. I'd like to go more often, but I also have family in Italy that I like to go and see, so it's about finding the time :) I hope you get to go as much as you like very soon, and/or live out your dream of moving there. It's a wonderful place. It's my favourite place in the world now. I love being able to call it a second home. I'm always at my happiest when I am there. It's special.
I loved Lauren's part where she spoke about the stigma of Afro-Latinas. This idea that passing more latina is more beautiful is something we all struggle with. Either we're too dark for the latinas or to the blacks, we're not "real" or "think we're "too good" for them or don't understand the struggles full on. n reality, we are half black and that stills makes us beautiful!! Get as MUCH sun as you want!
I love this movie I swear lol I bought it in ITUNES & I watch it all the times & yes brings me back how our neighborhood was back in the days lol I love this movie I watch it probably 100 times a year lol 😂
Love this movie omg i thought me and my sister were the only ones who watch it. the whole movie we memorized cause we watch it every day after school .... go chino flying teta
I've seen this movie OVER 50 TIMES....since I rented it from Blockbuster Video, in 1995. I can quote the hell outta this movie. Fat Joe is a background actor/extra, during one of Chino's prison-visit scenes. The abuse Alex/Alexis received from his Dad.....Rita Moreno being funny as hell.....all the New York City nuance....UGH. I miss those days. This is the first time I heard Marc Anthony's voice (Lizette was running his music, when she was stressed...) and Jerry Rivera's song, "Amores Como El Nuestro" (sampled by Shakira, years later). BTW: Lisa Vidal (Magdelena).....Jon Seda (Chino)......and Lauren Velez (Lizette) all aged VERY well !
I met Jesse in Albuquerque at Duke City Comic con last weekend and he was so awesome. He absolutely loved us because we were native Apaches. He gave me a hug, then I say, "Alexis." He smiled and said he did that movie after Blood in Blood Out. He's so awesome.
I'm 48 and from Chicago but crazy thing is that when this movie came out in 94 I was living in Richmond Hills, Queens 😂 Loved Lauren in New York Undercover.
I remember my dad renting this movie when it came out on video and me sitting there watching and thinking this was like a documentary or something. It seemed so real and I couldn't tell if they were acting or not because it was so believable.
Just finished watching this because i bought the dvd hadnt seen it in forever!trivia fat joe was an extra in this! the scene where chino is talking to lisette in the jail if you look across from their conversation the guy is fat joe lol!
The kids were a big part of the movie too, it’s annoying that they don’t include them unless they just didn’t want to be involved, but I think they did a wonderful job as actors in this movie too.
Fantastic film. Completely underrated

This film " I like it like that" is the life of latins, their daily struggles, their lives.
