- A small, quiet town in Missouri. A devoted mother caring for her chronically ill daughter. A story of love, sacrifice, and survival. Or so it seemed. But behind closed doors, beneath the layers of sympathy and kindness, there was a dark secret waiting to be uncovered. For nearly two decades Dee Dee Blanchard told the world that her daughter, Gypsy Rose, was dying. Leukemia, muscular dystrophy, seizures, vision and hearing issues, the list of illnesses and medical concerns was endless. Gypsy, a seemingly happy little girl with a huge smile, was bound to a wheelchair, fed through a tube, and showered with the attention and support of everyone around her, but no one really knew the horrifying truth. It seemed that Gypsy was perfectly healthy. She could walk. She didn't need a wheelchair to get around, and it appeared that she was being kept a prisoner in her own body, in her own home, by her own mother. The story goes that years of abuse, manipulation, and lies built up until they all came crashing down in the most unthinkable way: Murder. On the night of June 14, 2015, Dee Dee Blanchard was found stabbed to death in her home, and the prime suspect? Dee-Dee's innocent, smiling, happy, and allegedly disabled daughter, along with the man that Gypsy had been having a very adult relationship with. But nothing about this case is as it appears to be. This is the story of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard.

Muscular dystrophy was actually the "perfect disease" to hide behind. If Gypsy did have it she would have legit been able to do things like jumping on trampoline but it would have exhausted her way more rapidly than typical children. My son had this disease and over time he got worse and we were told he wouldn't live past his teens. My son was able to walk until age 8 and then had to use a wheelchair because he lost functions every single day. Over time he grrw weaker and weaker. Unfortunately he passed away last year at age 23. I am furious that this disease was used as a scape goat for these idiots😡🤬

Pediatric nurse here! When talking about the doctors running all the tests on Gypsy, in my experience, we usually have to go on what the parents are describing the patient’s symptoms to be. I took care of a child whose father was lying about their symptoms, the reasoning was unknown. But the staff didn’t have the evidence that he was lying until the child was in the hospital for a month, doctors were running all the tests you could think of to see what was wrong. We never want to accuse a parent of lying, so a parent can easily lie about symptoms unfortunately if the child is too young or too scared to speak against their parents
DeeDee was lying about the cancer and muscular dystrophy. BUT Gypsy has the microdeletion 1q21.1(Gyp admitted to this, but claims she is asymptotic)which caused all her symptoms and surgeries as a child. They didn’t find out til 2011 the exact chromosome disorder but they knew from the time she was an infant that she DID have a chromosome disorder and that’s why she had so many issues. The muscle biopsy did show she had muscle weakness it’s why she walks funny. I have seen the medical files in Fancy’s book. She had microcephaly, and lots of eye and ear problems when she was little. She had hyper salivation, which caused her to choke on her spit at night and also caused her to cough a lot. So they did Botox on her salivary gland for 7 months, and when that didn’t work they did the submandibular gland surgery. She has a high palate which is why she thrusts her tongue so much. DeeDee tested negative for the microdeleltion and so it comes from Rods side. Even tho he’s never been tested, but he KNOWS Gypsy has this. So DeeDee wasn’t abusing her medically, but she was exaggerating illnesses and symptoms to get charities to donate $$ trips and gifts and a House. So no medical abuse. Psychological abuse yes. I think she raised her daughter to be a narcissist with sociopathic tendencies. Tho that could also be part of her microdeltion too. Nature vs Nuture probably a bit of both in this case.
The MBP was used as Gyps defense and Kristy ran w that and it became the narrative of the mainstream. And gypsy is a pathological liar. She even admits to being able to lie and manipulate over and over again and not feel bad about it whatsoever. She was groomed to con people and she’s STILL doing it to this day. She may have been a victim as a child, but she grew up to be a perpetrator who killed her mother! Who if it weren’t for DeeDee taking her to the Doctors and getting these surgeries, Gypsy may NOT even be alive herself! She should be THANKING her mother instead she’s out here trying to make her look worse than she actually was.
I’d just add that just bc tests don’t prove illness does not mean the parent is lying about the symptoms. Medical tests can’t detect everything that someone might experience in their body.

I have shy children and they didn’t want to speak up. Yet they had a very good doctor and the doctor always had them answer what was wrong and what was going on. To a point it annoyed me. “ I just told you what they said was wrong”! Then I heard of stories like this and I would encourage my children to tell their doctor exactly what was wrong. It wasn’t easy but necessary .

The guard went up late and didnt hear noise so he never knocked. That women deserves justice like every other untalked about case and I sent that request in a year and a half ago.... Twice. The fact that Deedee was able to exploit and live off the charity of so many goodhearted people to such a large extent in multiple places ironically shows how many kind, dedicated people there truly are in this world.
I dont think many of us would be innocent angels if we grew up the way Gypsy did. Her mother was a con artist to an extreme degree. Yes, it's our responsibility to unlearn the bad things, but it's really hard. If you're that damaged, it's hard to even know what to unlearn. If it was easy, the entire world would be a much more peaceful place.
I agree with this take. Without diagnosing DeeDee, it is clear that her mother lied so much about GRP/permitted GRB to lie to others (specifically the age falsification) -- whether ot not it was GRB's idea, the mom was the adult and did NOT have to go along with it.
But others have been raised by con-artists and used in the con, and not decided to kill their parent to escape it.

Yes, and I am not saying she should have had no consequences. I am glad she at least had some prison time. I just made that point for all the people saying that as she became an adult, she should automatically react the right way to the abuse and lies because she should know better. I wish it was that easy.
@starchannel123 THIS! My husband grew up in an abusive home with addicts. Sometimes he wasn't sure if there would be food or a place to hit or if her boyfriend or husband of the moment wouldn't find an excuse to beat him. He doesn't live like that NOW! He's as steady and dependable as anyone I have ever known and he's that way because he never wants to be the same as them. We've been together over 20 years so I feel more than confident saying he will never be that way.
At some point, you gotta be an adult and stop letting a bad childhood destroy your entire life.
Gypsey, on the other hand, may have at first been a pawn, but later, they worked together to get Gypsey what Gypsey wanted. She always knew she could walk. She didn't have unnecessary surgeries. If she did, why aren't there lawsuits? Bc there weren't any. There are records from doctors saying that GYPSEY was lying about her symptoms.
Deedee reminds me so much of the woman that abused me as a child and teenager. She would make up wild stories about her friendships with celebrities, stories about her past and her own health, and she even got my mother to take me to multiple medical professionals to try and get me diagnosed with several different mental illnesses, only to turn around and tell me *I* was making it all up for attention and sympathy. She would lecture me for hours and hours sometimes until 2 am when I had to get up at 6 to get for school. Sleep, food and the outside world were all restricted. That’s all just the tip of the iceberg but i 100% was looking for any way out I could find. At this point after this episode I think Gypsy just went along with what her mother told her for as long as she did because that was the safest and most familiar option. She did have choices though, we all do. One day I packed a bag and left, and I’ve taken care of myself since. Gypsy chose to help plot her mothers murder and I think she should have to live with the consequence of murder

Gypsy did serve her time in prison so she did love with the consequences.

Whereas Nick? Has said he would do it again. Which is why he remains rightfully behind bars. Saying that you would do it again? Tells the parole board you have learned nothing from your time in jail and do not deserve to be walking free. That is why I am surprised that people are fighting to free Nick. This man wants to kill again. He deserves to be locked up.

Make a Wsh only grants one wish per child. Do we know for a fact that she had two separate trips from make a wish? Or is this just from Gypsy's word?
@@aprildonahoe7849 I know someone whose son was granted a wish and she said it's a large organizations with different ...( I don't remember the exact word she used so I'm gonna say divisions) and each division can grant you a wish. There's an application process so it isn't easy but it is possible. Apparently Gypsy was given 3 and the last one was when she was an adult. The picture of her at Discovery Cove swimming with the dolphins was supposedly one of those wish trips

A lot of us are passionate about this case because we supported Gypsy in the beginning before her medical records were made public and we saw the depths of Gypsy's manipulation on full display. Krusty and Mike Stanfield did an amazing job convincing us that Dee Dee deserved what happened to her but Gypsy came out of prison and ripped that illusion apart.

Gypsy grew up in that household where she quickly learned to be manipulative and lie...that's the only thing she was taught, that along with losing her childhood, her teeth and wellbeing.
I never supported her. Some people don’t have a good judge of character and are unable to see through blatant lies. Nobody did their research and it showed.

I was a school teacher in a large school. There was only one parent that had munchausen by proxy in the now 120 years of being open. I fostered one of the children in this family for many years. I know that each case is different but from my knowledge and experience tells me that the mother didn't have any form of munchausen by proxy.
@@nicolepence1142malingering is when the PATIENT is faking their own illnesses. This woman literally harmed her kid for profit. That's assault, at the very least. I don't care if it was Munchausen by proxy or not. DeeDee was killed in self defense by her daughter.

I’m the mother of a 6 yr old with cancer (neuroblastoma). He finished his last chemo in November and was growing hair again shortly after Christmas. I’ve often wondered why no Dr questioned why gypsy didn’t have hair since she wasn’t “currently” receiving chemo. This should have been a 🚩 to them that something wasn’t right and deedee was trying to make gypsy look a certain way. I really wonder how she got away with all of this. We are currently in our make a wish planning stage. A dr had to sign paperwork saying gypsy was “terminally ill” to qualify. What dr signed off I wonder? He should lose his license

I just got a new client at the group home I work at. She killed her mother in 2017. She plead not guilty by reason of insanity and was on jail 2 years then a mental hospital 6. All articles I've read, the doctors say she should never get out.. now she almost has full freedom at this group home. She doesn't seem insane, but the things the doctors said say different. You don't know what's going on in someone's head. It's amazing that they let these people out so easily.
That's actually so scary, seems the system somehow is doing the opposite of what it should be doing - really dangerous people get out, meanwhile people spend lifetimes behind bars for some petty crimes.
Watch that girl those people who seem normal all the time but do heinous shit are literally ny worst nightmare and terrify me

I am so incredibly happy that a channel of this magnitude is doing the right thing and really examining the details of this case. The narrative has always been one sided and never challenged. I hope that your influence can reach a vast audience that encourages individuals to look at this case objectively and develop an informed decision.
It is important to look at how hard dds life was but she went and victimized her own child . She deserves empathy of course but to see that comments that complain about things being one side . Just flip flop to the other side instead of acknowledging the nuance.
@@violetk8025 Agreed. It's impossible to diagnose FDIA after someone is dead, specifically because the difference between it and malingering is the motivation -- and we can't be certain of any motivation aside from financial benefits.
But even if the lying is your kid's idea, it's the adult's responsibility to not permit it, let alone go along with it so much that you falsify your child's age to medical professionals.
Basically, one doesn't have to canonize DeDe to avoid canonizing GRB. Two people can both be fucked-up individuals, especially if they each learned maladaptive coping mechanisms (and apparently her parents did allow DeDe special privileges because of alleged health issues).

One of the main things I think was so messed up was that DeeDee lied to Gypsy about how old she was. I’m sure that’s another reason she didn’t want other people alone with her. If I remember correctly it was her dad that told her on accident, he called her one year on her birthday and revealed her real age. So that caused a huge blow up.

This is really not true. If you look at pictures, there was candles on her cake and she had birthday parties. She was a teenager when Katrina happened and she moved away too MO. She did have an ID with her correct birthday on it. Everytime sure went too the doctor, she did not have the medication in her system. She stopped seeing any of these doctors by 2011. Her chromosome made her teeth go bad. There is so many untruths out there to make the narrative favor her. Research the truth through the medical records and leave feeling out. Dee Dee didn't deserve what happened to her and she is still being demonized by her own daughter. Nick also lost his life that night and his poor mom is fine fromm what I believe is a broken heart from what was done too her son. Sad sad story and so many people have too live with the aftermath with the person that planned everything is getting rich and doesn't give a d*mned about what happened to others based on her selfish actions.

It was an election year and DA didn't want to look like an ogre for prosecuting an abused little scared girl...she is none of that....if not for that sweet deal I believe the real truth would have came out...and they would both have equal sentences.

So far part 1 is just about everything I’ve heard except for how fast Rod married his second wife. Good job presenting it for people who haven’t heard.
I don't think that we can ever call gypsy a "willing participant" in her condition, because these "illnesses" started super early in gypsy's life. Too early for her to understand what she was doing. The doctors also wouldn't necessarily be found guilty of malpractice also, because a lot of illnesses, you just have to go based on the patient's symptoms that they're describing. EX: one condition I have has no test to confirm it (or at least no tests that I had to do) but based on the symptoms I was describing, I was diagnosed. Also you have to remember that Dee Dee took Gypsy to many different doctors, just like other cases of Munchausen's by proxy, so that the doctors wouldn't be suspicious, and in that case it might be normal for them to not re-run tests, since they have the records from other hospitals. At the end of episode 1, my opinions are that Dee Dee wasn't a good person, she likely abused Gypsy and potentially her mother. But she didn't deserve the end she got.

The timeline is just as important as the facts in this case . I ended up down the rabbit hole and once I got to the medical records , police records and Dan Patterson’s career everything made sense. It was never MBP it was always malingering and gyp was in on it . The plea deal ensured his reelection. There are so many moving parts to this case and I wish you well in discovering & presenting them with honesty & integrity.

I was an adult with children of my own and this really disturbed me...What I am hearing now and I'm sorry to say with how fast Gypsy came out of the gate on social media is also disturbing. Same, it was so shocking! It was the 1st I'd heard of munchausen by proxy. I'd definitely heard of munchausens but didn't realize mothers(or other cars givers) would push that shit into their own children. Did you hear about that mother that was munching (just made up the verb lol) her son, then when he was in the hospital she killed him by putting salt or something in his iv…!? Horrific &so difficult to even comprehend someone doing this to their own child 😢

I was a liar in my childhood and teens, and I was rarely confronted with any of my lies. I grew out of the habit however because I realized I'd rather just tell the truth and be known as a trustworthy person. I like the sincere feeling of being trusted so much! It's way better than telling lies and having to keep up with them. Dee Dee and G-slur Rose never had to face any of their lies or have to grow out of it. That's why Dee Dee raised her own murderer.
Dee Dee never was diagnosed with MBP...They let Gypsy and her attorneys tell whatever suited Gypsy and (in my opinion) they never investigated any of Gypsy statements as truth or lies. The man that she groomed for two years to murder her mom has autism, asperger syndrome, as well as a low IQ. Nick was never offered any evaluations or concern/thought for his medical issues. But they were so concern for all of Gypsy's "fake" issues.
Just a heads up, asperger syndrome is no longer a diagnosable thing. It's just considered autism now.
You cant diagnose a dead person. I believe it def started out MBP. And may have grown to a duo of milking the symptoms

As someone from the area, who lived in Springfield, going to college there at the time, thank you for covering this. A lot of us from the area had our doubts about how clean-cut this case was made out to be. I dont doubt Gypsy was abused - but i do think her motive was more than just escape.
well since gyspy said “she didn’t know about the abuse until her lawyer and kristy told her about it after she went to prison” i’d say she didn’t murder her bc of that. the amount of ppl that put their trust in the narrative of these true crime cases is insane. i’m guilty of it at first. but then when i deep dive into a lot of these cases i quickly learn how corrupt the US truly is.
Her mom’s autopsy says a lot. Look it up… Gypsy didn’t need to run. Her mom was essentially bedridden. Also everyone around knew about the scamming. They just looked past it bc DD was a good helpful person. Gypsy said her mom’s last words before going to sleep were “please don’t hurt me”. She also tried killing her mother on 2 other occasions. This was a huge miscarriage of justice. Now she makes it clear everyday she is not rehabilitated. She is going to hurt someone again, probably will be her own child. She is already trying to profit off her pregnancy.
Did I hear the audio version on friday? Yes. Am I down the rabbit hole and now watching on RUclips? OF COURSE.

I'm not convinced Gypsy wasn't responsible for some of those wounds...Something happened before Nick got there. I also still believe she may have bound her mother up somehow so that Nick stabbed an incapacitated woman.The bed was too clean for a woman being stabbed 17 times! Why would Nick have that much anger in him? And Nick was used to taking the blame completely. They didn't investigate properly had they the story would have been different. She needs to be back in jail with no social media.

@@jennarae6531yes he said in his interrogation that he stabbed her 4 times but in reality it was a lot more and she was almost decapititated. Keep in mind though that’s it not unusual for people confessing crimes to minimise what they did or distance themselves. Sometimes it’s a self protection thing sometimes it’s just manipulate. Because Nick has autism it’s very likely he may not have realised how many times or he may not have wanted to admit how many times, also he may have felt that he only stabbed her four times and then his alter ego took over. It doesn’t necessarily mean Gypsy. Gypsy may have been there but he has never implicated her in that way.

With Dee Dees autopsy report coming out I’m really interested in seeing what you guys have to say. I’ve seen a lot of court docs being gone over and it doesn’t actually seem that what gypsy claims of the crime and her upbringing are completely truthful.
Regardless of her mom's autopsy report.. it has already been fully investigated when it happened. Doesn't change anything.... the police would have loved to pin it on her if they could. It's a done deal.

Everybody loves a victim of abuse until that victim stands up and God forbid becomes rich. We both know if she were living in a tent broken and alone, you would be her biggest advocate.
I wasn’t tapped in until I picked apart her interrogation video and compared it to Nick’s…about three times and I can’t find anything redeeming about Gypsy’s demeanor nor any semblance of guilt based remorse and I did observe the autopsy photos. I wouldn’t be able to be out in the public living shamelessly knowing that I directly caused that terror. Imagine, truly put yourself in Dee Dee’s perspective and imagine how horrific that departure is.
Without disclosing the more traumatic personal details to maintain the point, I did not and cannot fathom allowing much less directing someone to slaughter my dad. Ever. Not once did that seem like a viable option. I ran away several times and gained independence at 17 and ceased contact at 22. If we are to give Gypsy the benefit of the doubt and say the abuse is true and her deletion didn’t require medical intervention, her brain was almost fully developed when this happened she knows it’s wrong now, she knew it was wrong then and tried to lie to absolve herself of wrongdoing only to avoid criminal punishment. Also, just a side note, I think her presence in social media and mainstream media is a violation of the implemented rules for release by making money off of this incident. Regardless of how diluted it seems, she’s making money off of this crime. I could be misunderstanding the fine details but that’s how I perceive Gypsy’s “job”.

I totally agree with Stephanie. I've always felt something wasn't right with Gypsy. It seems by admitting she's such a great liar due to her childhood, she's admitting she was in on it right along with her mom
I'm torn on this because it's not abnormal for kids who are being abused to become very good liars. It happens when kids have to hide bruises, absences, parents addictions, etc.
I think that's a pretty reasonable response.

Nicholas was a guy on the autism spectrum, he was easily influenced, but he had normal family, stable home, he was allowed to go to school, use the internet freely, while Gypsy was bound to a wheelchair since her childhood, she was taking dozens of medications that she didn’t need, she had tons of surgeries she didn’t need, she wasn’t allowed to go to school, she wasn’t allowed to use the internet, in fact Deedee broke the computer with a hammer, when she found out her daughter was using it. She wasn’t allowed to talk to people when Deedee wasn’t present, Deedee lied to her, Deedee made Gypsy completely dependent on her, Deedee tried to kill her stepmother so it wasn’t ludicrous to think she might feed Gypsy something poisonous. You cannot say “Oh you know, they both had some demons from their past”, their situations were miles away from each other

I'm in the same boat. I've never run with the popular narrative about Gypsy, I've always had questions that were never answered by the media or court that people seem to gloss over. I feel like I've been in limbo about the case, not on one side or the other until those questions are answered. And if the truth of what happened is different from the popular narrative, the media is gonna do what it always does and say, "she had us all fooled!" when in reality a lot of people were still questioning.

Not taking up for Gypsy. Please don't attack me over this. I think she is a sociopath but i have a dif perspective from my experience and i believe Gypsy should be locked up still but my daughter has the same chromosomal disorder with a mutation in another chromosome. Youd be surprised at how many people have chromosomal disorder or syndrome without knowing bc they have very few symptoms and something minor causes them to look deeper. drs rely heavily on what i tell them. Symptoms vary and i could push for alot of tests and procedures actually not needed and yes ive found drs that would do those. Just bc my daughter has muscle weakness or hypotonia does not mean she needs a wheelchair or anything besides afos. Just bc my daughter has had issues with feeding, doesn't mean she needs a feeding tube. Just bc she has issues with her eyes doesn't mean she needs surgery and yes, that was always an option if i wanted. Her hypotonia and feeding issues also caused her to drool alot and yes there were options for that but it was not needed. My daughter does have IDD though. People try to over simplify the issue. I dont believe what DD did equates to mbp. It is documented by a pediatrician that it was a possibility though. However, i do think it adds up to more so medical malingering. DD was a pathological liar but i don't see the evidence that she was keeping gypsy sick and monsterouly abusing her. She took advantage of that disorder and grifted and eventually Gypsy seen what she could get outta the grift and jumped on board. The sad part is the student surpassed the teacher and she did the unthinkable.

Gypsy was a big part of the scam herself. After turning 18 she could have left at any time. She stayed to get all of the free stuff from people who felt sorry for her. Today Gypsy is still scamming people

She is a cold blooded murderer. She was and still is. And you must be really naive to believe that she is a good person even though the FACT still remains - That she had her mother slayed. No matter how bad her mother was… (which is questionable because all info comes from her murderous daughter)
