Before my dad passed away from cancer he said, that he was taking with him all the great memories we shared together, and his advice was ,enjoy your child, take care of your body, and focus on good experiences, because when we leave this earth we leave with nothing just the experiences and good memories. He was happy till the end. Love your children, take care of your body and enjoy life.
G G thank you so much. My mom passed 9 years ago. I still struggle with her passing and the many memories and items that she left that I’m still going through. I know it’s a process. It’s still hard but I know it’s a process. Thank you for sharing. Your post blessed me so much . 🙏🏾🙌🏾❤️
Great advice! I don’t want my kids to be burdened by my possessions when I’m gone. So, I’m constantly purging and saying “no” to more stuff unless I feel it’s necessary. It’s been very freeing!
I absolutely love how minimalism and Christianity are so harmonious and find a lot of minimalist talks missing a huge aspect when Christianity isn’t tied in. This was fantastically inspiring!
As I begin this journey to less, I have come to realize I have been excessive in so many areas of my life. My eyes have been opened! I feel so much freedom in getting rid of all of my excess baggage. This includes possessions, weight, shopping, screen time....so much excess.
I learned of Joshua years ago. He has so much wisdom to share! Thank you for having him on your show. I have tried to minimize what I have. It is most liberating.
I think Joshua said that connected with me most, was about coming to terms with the fantasy self, that’s me right there. I have really struggled to identify myself, and I’m realising at 60, that I’ve really not been honest enough to recognise my own personal weaknesses and have bought and owned thing that are connected to who I’d like to be, and not who I am.
I so wanted to be a maximalist, but never had enough money to get and have what I thought I wanted. I was always wanting more, but never able to use what I acquired. I think I was trying to be something I wasn't. That fantasy self. What an eye opener. I want to cry. Josh is a truth seeker. Under all that stuff is the truth.
Thanks for this show. I was a natural minimalist even though I was rich.. it was from moving every year and my personality. I always told people when they were wowed with my life. I said... it’s all about experiences. Experiences last forever. The iPhone ends up in the trash in 5 years
I've been a minimalist for years, and I have finally let go of an expensive doll (gifted to an enthusiastic collector) and my Steuben saddle. I'm looking forward to spending my time making myself more clothes and being present in annual trail rides...and not storing things that have been part of my fantasy life for too long. Thank you for sharing, Joshua.
Oh my goodness! I struggled when I was selling my place and my adult daughter decided to sell/gift her rather ordinary saddles since neither of us had the room to store them and she wasn't riding. Just wanted you to know someone recognized the name and value of what you chose to do! Glad you are happy with your choice.
Joshua was the first person I heard speaking on this subject. I was always a minimalist but didn’t know there was actually a word for it. I held on to certain things, because I felt they were gifted to me, or they managed to get into my home for one reason or any other, Joshua helped me give myself permission to donate these things, I am much more happy, since I did.. Joshua keep spreading your word. You have helped so many Thank you for having him as a guest, I will subscribe
Joshua,. I'm watching your videos but decluttered very little. This advice will help me look at my life through Jesus' example and trust him to provide what I need. No need to hoard it for myself. I do think it's harder for a single person to not fill an emptiness with stuff.
6:14 the 3rd seed is chocked by the weeds. and weeds are "riches, pleasures and worries" 10:16 definition of Minimalism---the intentional promotion of the things we most value, and the removal of anything that distract us from it.
I've always found myself being concerned that I may be in the soil choked out by thorns. He's right that we, in our society, are very much at risk of falling in that category.
During my recent move eighteen months ago. I gave away or sold most of my stuff. I moved with seven pieces of furniture and thirteen boxes. It felt like I took a fifty pound back pack off my back. I asked myself the question. When was the last time I used an item? If had been more than six months I got rid of it. Getting rid of the clutter will not only free up your space. It will also declutter your mind.
I am not necessarily a minimalist, but I have had to minimize greatly when I was expecting my 9th baby and all the rooms were full, so I had to fit a crib into our small room, plus all of baby's things. I don't like disorder, so that meant keeping fewer items around. I focused on getting rid of my own things, not my husband's. What began as a necessity, became a blessing. I have minimal toys now for this little one because I have nowhere to store them. Little ones like to stand on a stool at the counter and help mommy instead anyway!
At almost every step of the way, you can tell how Jim feels about minimalism..."how deep does the pain need to go?' etc...Minimalism is just a tool and it's different for everyone. Jim doesn't comprehend the concept and he isn't ready for it.
I think it is better to not have overstuffed homes for sure. People first. My kids are raised but i stopped what i was doing any time they needed me when they were growing up. They r only small for a lil bit of time
I was given approx 60 pairs of jeans, once a year I take them off the top shelf to wash them, a few loads and days out drying and taking up space only to pack them away again after trying to slowly purge. Into the donation box and as I am asked to always say what I have chosen to purge, I'm asked to take out all the wide leg cut style for eg. so I did and I packaged them to send back to sender who already purged them the 1st time, then I purged them only to have to send them back, we'll they've ended up back in my cupboard together with an additional 36 pairs I managed to purge this year over and above the pairs I purged 3 years ago when I said I know what's going to happen but I refuse to have to go through the same batch my family and I have purged, 1, 2, 3, or 4 times over because I know what's going to happen, one day I'm going to inherit that and then some, but I don't want the stuff. Sure a few selected pieces is lovely but not when it's consuming more of your time, space, energy and valuable real-estate in hopes that one day the items might fit/suit me. While it's a lovely gesture, I'm glad I can be honest but it's not so easy to purge as I've barely been able to part with them yet.
During Christmas people go crazy with shopping and they all stressed. People forget what Christmas really means??? It’s the day to celebrate Jesus’s birthday and that means focusing on praying and giving back to the community, helping the poor and spending time with family. Not about Santa and buying more things that we don’t need. Let’s not forget how bad it is for our environment either. People should start trying to be zero waste and buy only when you need. Buy second hand stuff and toys for your kids and focus on experiences rather then keep buying. Spend more time with each other rather then just buying. Buy quality over quantity.
Lol...it shouldn't be painful as the gentleman suggests....if you want to clean n maintain a pool, 4 wheelers, n a large home then keep it. I, myself, have been compelled to declutter my life when my oldest son died...i need SPACE
I am there for others, the first one to help if needed, but nobody needs me. I don't know how to connect. I can give a lot but not to the ones who take advantage and give nothing back. Those seem to be the ones I attract. I just do not know how or what to do to be accepted and spend happy time with nice people. I might be focused on myself there is nobody else to focus on, they don't need me. I have to keep myself alive, nobody cares about me. I am of the best will, but do not understand. Anyway thank you for your attention.
It's not that money is bad because we need money to feed our family. But the love of money is the root of all evi Many people have lied or still or murdered for the love of money.
@@StephanieWitmer-iq5pv Thank you I am new at this I just can't stand looking at the same black shirt and britches every day so boring but I will look into the capsule one you are talking about.
They have their place. When necessary to store for short period when relocating or leaving the country for short time. Also cheaper rent for internet businesses.
Alicia.... true a very tempting place to be everyday....I think I’d handle it in multiple ways....1. Make no immediate impulse purchases... If something new comes into the store, I’d think on it for a week or so to see If I TRULY LOVED it or was I just being tempted by new “Eye candy”. Secondly I’d set a monthly budget for new expenditures.... say 50 dollars or 100 or whatever YOU feel appropriate. Once you spend that amount , your done until next month.( once again the will power factor comes strongly into play.) I think I’d try to hold out for one truly fabulous piece ( a 300 dollar Cashmere sweater) instead of multiple “lesser” items. Just some of my thoughts😁... Blessings on your Journey!🙏
Alicia Maxie My suggestion would be to just not buy anything. See your job as a way to make money. Your employer would love you to spend your money right back in the store. Don’t do it. You don’t need the new stuff that comes into the store. Just replace what you need to and ignore the rest. It is not in the store for you. The items are in the store for everyone else who want to waste their money or who needs to replace something.
Oh the temptation… I hear you. How does one resist? When I was younger I used to think that as long as the bills were paid on time, I could spend my money on anything I wanted. Decades later I started understanding that some of the money we spend on extra unnecessary things, if it were invested, it could make you wealthy when invested over a long period of time. Wishing you the best Alicia.
Is it just me, or is Jim a little......defensive? Maybe nervous in this interview? I wonder if that's common in alot of Christ Followers in their 50s? I guess the term minimalism can be intimidating.
The parable of the sower is mis-interpreted badly in this episode. The seed is the Gospel (Jesus, Himself, explains this). The weeds in the soil that choke the seed is the heart of someone who was never saved at all, rather loved money more than Jesus. Started to germinate, maybe, but never bore fruit. It was the Gospel that was choked out. It has nothing to do with swimming pools & pleasures that make a Christian less-effective. That person is a false Christian
Sir you sound like a cult. Less is less more is more.if you have a head on your shoulders and you know how to budget and balance you can successfully live a life that both accumulates, shreads, shares, enjoys free time enjoys contributing enjoys life. BINARY THINKING IS LIMITED

Jesus is the greatest minimalist who ever lived , and as I follow Him, I minimize to free more space in my life for him and his work 💕
I knew it!! He never talks about Jesus on secular venues but those of us who have ears to hear…hears JESUS when this man speaks!❤
this man brought impact on me, it took me 9 years to completely empty both of my cellars and garage. thanks Josh.
I absolutely love how minimalism and Christianity are so harmonious and find a lot of minimalist talks missing a huge aspect when Christianity isn’t tied in. This was fantastically inspiring!
We began going through our stuff and have realized that it's not stuff that makes us happy. Making memories with loved ones gives us joy😎
As I begin this journey to less, I have come to realize I have been excessive in so many areas of my life. My eyes have been opened! I feel so much freedom in getting rid of all of my excess baggage. This includes possessions, weight, shopping, screen time....so much excess.
I started decluttering when we were asked to stay home because of the virus. I am just taking one room and one closet at a time. It is so cleansing.
Could you invite Joshua more often? I am sure he has more important things to share about minimalism and faith that the society really needs to hear.
He has his own RUclips channel
Joshua Becker, keep up your great work in spreading the word and what is important! Love listening to you and doing this minimalist life!

Love this!!

So true,👍👍👍🤠🇦🇺
How do get rid of very sentimental thins you rarely or never use?
I just coaxed someone to get rid of their storage unit
Joshua, what if one had no family? Lonelyness and missing all the warmth of the world! Not knowing how to find it. Thank you for your help please.
Volunteer at a thrift store.
Make friends. Volunteer. Foster homeless animals or children. Sounds like you’re too focused on yourself.
