Eikando Temple Kyoto/Amazing Autumn

Eikando Temple is the best viewing spots for autumn leaves viewing in Kyoto since ancient times, and from mid to late November the temple is sorrounded by fiery red trees. At night, the temple and the trees are lit up, which lends the temple an otherworldly air.
Eikando Temple isthe main temple of the Jodo-shu Seizan-Zenrinji schoo. It began as a training temple of Esoteric Buddhism of Shingon sect in 853. Eikan, the 7th abbot, later converted the temple to Jodo sect. Of the many temple treasures the most intriguing one is perhaps the Mikaeri Amida Nyorai, Amida Buddha looking back over his shoulder. The temple's treasures are on publidb display on Nov.11 to Dec.5. Eikando is well known for its fantastic autumn colors.
