- I Bought a Box of 23 Old "Broken" iPods - Can I Make Money on Them? I paid $186 for a box of Apple iPods (and 1 DSI XL) the seller said were broken. There were only 4 iPods I found that needed repairs. I showed replacing one of the batteries but decided to do something different with the other 3 iPods... collaborating with DankPods! (Check out his channel at the link below) After repairs and cleaning I was able to sell 20 of the iPods on eBay and share all the sales numbers at the end of the video.

About This Video: I paid $186 for a box of Apple iPods (and 1 DSI XL) the seller said were broken. So after charging them I got to work testing and repairing them. There were only 4 iPods I found that needed repairs: 2 iPod Touches needed their batteries replaced, 1 iPod Nano has a weird problem where the sound cuts out sometimes, and 1 iPod Touch has a nonworking volume button. I showed replaced one of the batteries but decided to do something different with the other 3... collaborating with DankPods! I sold 20 of the iPods on eBay and share all the sales numbers at the end of the video.
Sometimes I actually wish more items in these lots are broken! Did you think I'd make money on them? Dank Pods will be releasing his video next week!
Also...some of you have noticed the Paypal fees that seem to be more than normal. I didn't notice when I was compiling this spreadsheet that sometimes sales taxes are lumped in with Paypal fees so unfortunately that column is a little bit off. The rest of the numbers are exact and the totals are still the same.
I'm sure you can pull it off
Btw I also commented something I want your opinion on
It’s more fun watching when you have a lot to fix!
Yes! I thought you would make money and thank you for sharing the numbers! 💜🌞🌵😷
Really loved this video, and the future (future?) collab with Dankpods (You can hear that dingus in the distance, lol). Anyway: Hope you do a transparent ipod mod some day, would love to see you do that :D Kudos!
Tronicsfix: sends Ipods
Dankpods: opens up Ipods
Someone's been in here
Lol!
Just hope he didn't use the one grit!
Look wut he did to mah boi!!!!
Is that a dankpods reference
Jack the Great yes
DankPods would be proud.
Oh I checked description and it's a collab.. Huh.
I almost hate to say this but I wish more were broken so we could see more fixing😂! Nice video!
Ha, ha...I actually agree with you on that! They were listed as salvage when I bought them.
Will yeah this is the whole thing actually.
TronicsFix I honestly don’t believe that out of all 21 of those iPods only 3-6 were actually broken, that’s insane!
I would quite like to learn how to properly fix things like consoles, phones, iPods etc.
Are you by any chance going to do a course on your website on specific consoles and common problems or how to identify problems with consoles? I think it would be a great way to learn!
the problem is that people throw everything

I can't imagine a world where 2gb was enough to satisfy someone for music, but then I remember I lived through that world. Now I carry everything in FLAC on a 400gb sd card.
Damn, some of those touches have the cleanest backs I've seen!
Yep...some of them are pretty good.
I love that you collabed with Dank Pods. He's such an awesome guy!
na-no
That was a fun video. I love seeing these older devices being brought back to life and being ready to get used again.
I have a 160 GB iPod Classic that I bought used in 2007. Still works without much trouble (wheel's a bit wonky). By far my favorite piece of tech.
"Pretty much all iPods are old and broken by now"
[DankPods disliked that.]
haha i was going to make a DankPods reference too!
I was going to type the same...
GEAR GEAR GEAR!!!!!
@@cluadvan Geir
Correct he loves Ipods and he has loads of them
I absolutely love your transparency in these videos. Showing us how much you paid and how much you made. A lot of youtubers try to hide the money side of things so it’s such a breath of fresh air
Glad you enjoyed that part!
+ add the money RUclips pays you for that video 😉
Wish his basic console maintenance and repairs weren't so expensive
When you get more of these, think about getting a little external speaker. I have one that fits the headphone jack and doesn't need external power. That way you don't risk damaging your ears if by accident the sound is too loud or broken. Also, with an external speaker, we all can hear it work. 💜🌞🌵😷
That's one specific thing i like so much about you & the channel, you show us even the money lists. Profits looses etc. And your such a humble & smart guy. Always a pleasure watching these! Regards from Germany.
The Cleaning parts are so satisfying
I’m so glad about this collab. DankPods is an amazing channel, and so is this one! Really happy for you guys and hope to see this partnership as a regular thing!
TronicsFix: sends the iPods
DankPods: receives only the packaging
DankPods again: “someone stole my iPods”
I don't blame him.
The old slash n dash
I bought the 2gig nano from the beginning. I didn’t realize it was from TronicsFix until after it came in and had what was checked and the name on the top. I works great and was shipped fast. I was using it today on my old Camero as I don’t have unlimited data on my phone.
Also DankPods inspired me to look for iPod on eBay. Sorry you lost money on it.
I love it when you buy these lot of broken stuff. Lots of fun to watch! It would be fun to fix but I would be scared of getting hosed.
All the click wheel iPods also have a diagnostic mode. Hold the center button and the menu button until it powers off, then hold the center button and the left button. There's a lot you can test, including video output over the 32pin dock connector and all zones of the click wheel.
I love how you have the profit/loss margins in spreadsheet format at the end. Wish you’d do this in more, if not all your videos! 🙂
I like seeing the numbers at the end of the vid. Really cool. Also it almost seemed like this vid was an unboxing because of how many weren’t broken lol
Checks title- Bought 23 broken Ipods- intrigued
Checks length- 13 Minutes- doesnt add up
I Conclude 3 minutes in that this was a good lot.
7 Minutes in- starts looking at eBay for broken ipods and the resell market
_"And randomly, I do have this one DSI xL just for fun..."_
Me: * Surprised Pikachu Face* 😯
Yes! I've been waiting for another video! Loved it, as normal. Keep the good work up. Stay safe Tronics.
This video was WONDERFUL!!!! Thank you so much!!! My wait was soooooooo worth it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for bringing back the part where you show how much these items costs and how much you ended up making, thank you for putting all the time and effort in making us these wonderful videos ❤️
I'm not a big apple fan. But the iPod classic was a fricking beast. I had an original one back in the early 2000's then got a new one just before they discontinued them. Still have it, wonderful unit.
YES! I love Dank Pods. I love this little youtube fixing circle we got going on.
Before gluing the battery down in the red iPod, you should have tested functionality, what if they sold you a faulty battery or just the iPod has a problem?
And it did!
I once had an iPhone SE with good battery that drained super fast the iPhone being off, but held charge much longer when listening to music, so maybe your red iPod has that same issue.
Tronics fix: opens and fix iPods
Dank pods: attempts to open iPod, fails, makes shrek pod touch
Was nice to see the spreadsheet showing all the costs, thanks for that. Always interesting stuff.
IV got the original I pod nano the one in the video at 2:18 it's in a lime green collor and I must say they are un killable mine has been submerged in watter sevral time on accident left outside in the snow for a week thrown against the wall and even stepped on it and it just won't die IV got a total of 2197 songs on it and it still works great
Thank you for TronicsFix for uploaded the video
1) The purchase price include the DSI but the sale sheet didn't?
2) Do US buyers not pay for shipping?

Wow, that’s a funny looking iPod.
TronicsFix and Project Farm are my favorite channels!
Dang seeing these iPods reminded me of the iPod classic my dad had that got stolen out of his car. Kinda crazy how old these are
Great job, I enjoyed this video! Lol i wish I could have bought one of the iPod touches 4th generations because I still use a 3rd generation every day and it has had 4 different owners: my sisters teacher, my sister, my other sister, and me for a while. The volume buttons are non-functional and sometimes it freezes up for a couple minutes for no reason. It’s getting worse everyday and I’m getting kinda worried 😟…
I really like the numbers! Thanks for showing them!
Hi.What you use for cleaning?
Hey Tronics, I have a burgundy Nintendo DSi XL just like the one in the video and mine also has a missing stylus. Do you have any idea of the best place I can get a replacement stylus of the exact color or maybe an original stylus?
So, one thing that I have been wondering for a while:
In terms of trying to remove flux/dirt/gunk from circuit boards I have been toying with the idea of utilizing a sonic sink with some combination of DI water and/or IPA. I was curious on what your thoughts might be on this?
Dankpods was happy to collaborate!
I had an ipod shuffle once that I would charge fully but it would die so quickly I just stopped using it. 😒😅
Love your videos! I don’t fix things but I find it interesting to watch.
Edited to remove question, was answered in vid. 😊
I got the 160gb classic as well. Love it. But the back case scratchrs up really easely. In new Condition they cost about CHF600.00 here in switzerland.
Not bad. The better ones are essentially small tablets for $8.25 each if they can be fixed. Thing is, who wants them? That's the reason I sold my Ipod years ago....the phone did it all.
Tonics, when you sell on eBay do you prefer to do "buy it now" options or do you put your items on "auction"?
Hi. What's that goop you put on the terminals before your unsolder? Is is just flux, or something to spread the heat?
Hey what product did you use to clean the back of those touches because whatever product you used, it really seemed to do a good job and I would like to clean my touches with it
The quotations should also be on “iPods” in the title. Where did that DS come from lol?
I have a newer iPod touch that doesnt keep a charge even when I charge it fully. I think I got a faulty one. Will switching out the battery fix this issue?
Love how Tronics fix is everywhere. I even see him in comments for other youtubers
I buy the iPod for the 4GB Microdrive. I used it for the CF adapter in the Commodore AMIGA 1200.

I was thinking right about someone... Dankpods😂
He sent them to dank pods lmaaaoo
What you’ve used to clean the back of iPod classic and click wheel? Rubbing alcohol isopropyl alcohol?
I think so
Steve,
I bought a Nintendo Switch off ebay and the seller said he installed a new battery, but now it won't charge when connected to power, the battery % still goes down while plugged in. Also, the memory card reader won't read when I insert a card. I dont have the tools to fix it myself. Any tips on what I should do?
i have a red ipod with the same problem but worse swelling. can the metal plate be flatten easily? i really want to fix it, but have 0 experience with soldering. now i fear the battery problem is a normal/permanent thing :/
This video helped me discover DankPods. Both you guys are amazing
Those Touch A1288s are great, the latest model that has no camera anywhere and you can use it as a very slow personal computer, the lack of camera is very useful in some places.
Where are you getting all this stuff that works? I can't even get products from ebay that say there working to be good
I have a question. How do you source your replacement parts (for example the battery in this video)? Do you just go for the cheapest part from china with matching specs regardless of quality or do you do some research to find one that's closest to OEM and has a good balance of price vs quality?
I tried to fix my ipod before and ended up dead thats year 2011 lack of tools available, hope you can fix all of that.
Nice deal you got. And you can pop the bubble wrap. Bonus!!
Oh man... Recently I’ve replaced the battery and the case of my 10 yrs old classic and now I know how does the pain look...
Collabing with Dank!? Dream come true right there!!
I have one of those iPod 120gb video editions. Mine stopped working just after 12 months, I believe it was the charging port that stopped working. I'm pretty sure I put it back in the box and it's in storage at my parents house. Next time I'm back home, I must look for it.
hey, what were you using to clean the backs of the ipods?
Have you ever use wax at this metal parts? I wonder if it'll help to remove some scratches..
Really like the addition of the numbers at the end as usual great and interseting video keep it up!!
I love how you show how much you paid and how much you sold it for - keep it coming!
1:33 You can build your own charger using a USB cable and an old 4-pin headphone cable. Just connect the wires in the right way (you can find pinouts online) and it will work.
Great vid, but curious to hear why you don’t include the parts (batteries) as part of your profit and loss sheet? Surely they knock a sizeable hole in the actual profit?
I have a 160GB iPod but my battery won't stay charged. What is your fee to replace a battery?
Have a busted iPod Classic 80 gb that needs a new hard drive and the headphone jack replaced. How much would that cost?
Im so glad most were fixed but also not cuz I get some sort satisfaction when you fix them.
I have a PSP that doesn't work properly without the battery when I plug in the charger without the battery and turn it on it Powers off by itself and turns back on by itself so I'm wondering if you can fix the problem?
Question. I just bought a used 160g ipod classic. I formatted it but now it does not let me link it to iTunes or even format it again. It shuts off and restarts over and over. Is there anyway I can get this fixed?
What cleaning liquid was you using on the cotton bud when cleaning the iPods?
@DankPods is amazing! Awesome collab!
Dankpods collab, what more can I wish for.
Can I ask something? What liquid do you use for the cleaning?
It's cool to see two of my favourite channels working together!
I got a dumb question for the newer models of the iPod touches what was the silver thing on the bottom of the back?
I cant wait for the collab with DankPods! I love his channel
how much hours of work did you put into fixing some , listing them and shipping?
You did not answer my questions @Tronicsfix
I assume you missed it,
Can i buy a connector cable for the Xbox one X that is vital to the Bluetooth pairing button and the USB port below it ? It snaped, and i would lile to replace it
Well now I know what his next video is from DankPods. Can't wait for that "Someone's been in here"
That last older iPod touch: What a deal! Can't turn that down!
Your channel has grown so so much.. I came here from my mate Vince .... keep up the great work
All of the ipods work just fine? they should be broken richt?
Hi, where u buy this type of box (iphones, ipods, etc)? thnx u so much
What kind of screen cleaner do you use because nothing works well and every time I see you clean your screen its crystal clear
hi what u use in min 8:40 to clean the back and front? any link to the products please?thanks :)
Yesss! I was thinking of DankPods during this whole video! Looking forward to watching his video!
You should see the condition of mt iPod 4. It got caught under a chair and the corner got crushed. My iPod 5's screen has cracks all across it and scuffed at all corners still works like a charm though
Is the product red iPod touch a 6th gen because if so that’s a common issue with the battery levels always fluctuating
The head -phone jack wore out on my itouch . I hope you test that before selling.
what thing you use for cleaning plastic?
Excellent video's! Thanks to you, i had the motivationto fix my first broken ps4 and
was able to fix it! (Replaced the HDMI port of a ps4 Slim)!
Thanks man and keep up the good work!
just one of those used ipod classic is 250usd for a USED one, so just 1 sold and profit
You have really good videos, but my ps4 makes a weird noise, I think it's the fan, what would help that? It still works normally, it's just a very irritating sound, greatly appreciated
