      Hi Wullie,
Thank you for getting in touch. We source alot of wood from old unwanted furniture. It's great because it is well seasoned and often good for carving. We work in seasoned woods so companies like double glazing firms who are often pulling out old doors and windows can be a great source of wood, as well as any company that is making larger items in wood. A friendly local tree surgeon can be a great source of wood too but this needs to be seasoned for the carving that we do. It's a matter of being creative and finding out any possible sources locally, even charities and charity shops can have unwanted wood available.
Hope that helps, thanks again for supporting our RUclips channel. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍

What are your 4 most used chisels please for a beginner

Hi Lee, my own 4 most used gouges are number 3 and 4 Herring Bros and Addis gouges but that won't be much help to you as they are vintage gouges that are difficult to get hold of.
We are basically using a variety of different fingernail gouges that are different sizes and sweeps. For a beginner looking to get started you could try companies like Henry Taylor, Robert Sorby and Ashley Iles, they all make good quality wood carving chisels and gouges. Robert Sorby do a range of micro that would be great for small carvings like these.
Alternatively, you can do a search on eBay for 'vintage wood carving chisels' and see if you can get hold of some Herring Bros or Addis no 3 and no 4 sweep gouges.
Hope that gives you a few ideas, let me know if you need any further information, all the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍
