Kokopelli Recon Self-Bailing Packraft on Water
#packraft #kokopelli #kayakreviews
Awesome watching you roll this thing! I started paddling in a recon, stable and pretty fun! I still use it for hike in runs and scraping down desert canyons
I feel boat like these have their place I would love to do like one of those long hikes in and blow up and float back out
Loved the immediate loop attempt
Lol it sent me flying out the boat
Rental one of those once. It was awesome. The flex makes it really fun
These things have their place
Do you think this would be a good all around boat? Fishing, lakes, rivers, white water? I'm new to water sports.
This is more whitewater pack in and paddling down it can be done in flat water but not what it’s designed for
Oh man, you went river right at 3:05.... I was waiting on you to hit that to see how it does. That's the only spot that's every flipped me at NWC... It was my 4th run of the day, back to back. I was too tired, it was too hot and I got sideways at the bottom. Didn't carry enough speed. My IK is 10.5' Aquaglide McKenzie.
Oh yeah what you don’t see is I’m dead tired from races and playing I was beat by the time paddling this demo I got ask to paddle down and was like ok let’s go
@@WadeHarrison Yep That will kill ya!! I’m 59.. I should have stopped after the3rd run…..
I was hungry and hot and tired!!!
NO WAY!🤟 I took the Dagger Torrent through, all the way to Wilderness, it was a HOOT!
The torrent is still a beast
As stable as a traditional IK?
Or do you consider it more flippy?
I have not paddled the IK so can’t really comment on it but the recon was very stable
Good to meet you down their man!
Yeah buddy
Would be a hoot to get a big group of buddies together and play bumper boats with these😂 mind you we do it with our yaks now, would just be safer🤔😂
Oh for sure
Were you doing a backdeck roll, a sweep roll, or C-to-C?
Just a quick sweep roll
You should also try the Alpacka Raft Gnarwhal or the Vankyrie. The last one is more like a ww kayak. There is at least one video of Nouria Newman in one:)
Yeah I would give them a try if they had a demo I could use
@@WadeHarrison if you come to Colorado/Utah you can use my valkyrie. I love it but I would like to hear your thoughts anyways.
people seem to be real excited about the packrafts. i prefer a traditional duckie(thrillseeker, ugly duckie, tomcat, bandit, etc.)if i’m gonna paddle an IK. more down downstream speed, possibly less flex. i use a 215 for those outings.
I don’t think I would buy one be if one was sent to me I see a use for it
The problem is that you can't use a traditional IK on long, multi-day outings over rough terrain. They weigh too much. For example, an Aire Lynx or Tomcat, weighs between 35-40 lbs while a Kokopelli Rogue Lite only weight about 6 lbs. That's what I used a couple of years ago when I floated the South Fork of the Flathead in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It took my friend and I three days just to get to the put in point and there's no way we could have done it carrying a traditional IK due to the weight limitations.
Where is this?
Charlotte whitewater center
Is this the water park that's in NW Arkansas?
no, its Charloette white water park in North Carolina
@@WadeHarrison Man, I lived in Columbia before moving to SLC and never even knew it was there. Bummer for me.
@@ulical yeah I don’t go much because it’s pricey and there’s so much other stuff to do for free but it is fun to go time to time
Window shade Wade is on deck!
Those straps would only pull against the side walls it was impossible to lift the edges up when side surfing
@@WadeHarrison It sounds like they need to tweak the design on the thigh straps. I wonder if the Alpacka thigh straps work better.
ditch hardboating for this???
😂 one lap and i was done with that thing buddy
@@WadeHarrison lol
Wade swims!
😂 try to loop it and fly out the straps in mid flight
@@WadeHarrison I was amazed that you were able to roll it!!!
How much did they pay you to do this?
A big high five 😂 I paddled like 20 different boats there it was a festival weekend so there was lots of demos to be paddled this was just a demo
Less than a minute in and he's trying to loop the packraft... LOL!
Hahaha yeah and fell completely out the straps mid loop
Its a duckie,, change my mind 🤣
I would not disagree with that
I took my Recon last summer on a week long float of the Main Salmon: ruclips.net/video/YEp_0sQCM9c/видео.html. It did pretty well considering the circumstances. You really can't beat it for packrafting, especially if you're walking any significant distance to the put-in point.
dude that's awesome
@@WadeHarrison Thanks. There were people laughing at the start saying "look at the little clown raft" but that changed at the end.
0:30 🥾🍺
😂 I drank enough beer there to hold me off for awhile
@@WadeHarrison well neither of us will be having a no swim year it looks like
@@yakob.simpson so true!
Nope 🙅♂️🙅♂️🙅♂️
😂 yeah fun to play around in but not my style yet
@@WadeHarrison maybe when I’m like 96 and need something more stable I’ll consider it 😂
