I got one similar to this, but have been looking for a replacement. My current one has a lens area about half the size of this, pain in the ass to work with such a small area.

I think I'm going to try this! I have photophobia so my space is really dark and I've recently started using a cheap little desk lamp I got for working with black yarn. It's been extremely helpful as I get into embroidery as the stitches are so small and I'm a complete perfectionist. I'm a little worried about my eyes getting sore on the magnification as I had that problem before but you did mention something on it and with the long guarantee I think I'm gonna give it a try!!

What are the sizes in magnification in these? Do you get one size? Or different sizes?

Thanks for the review. I couldn't afford the one you had, but i did get one that would fit my needs. The 10% coupon was a great plus! I am so excited to try it out!

Can you paint models unhindered without the brush handle hitting the lamp?

Anyone have information on why his other lamps are taped over? Diffuses the light I assume?

Some light can be harsh and cause reflections - especially on camera. The paper helps diffuse the light, and create a more even light distribution.

Pro magnification. For when regular magnification just isn't pro enough.

I just bought one. Yeah....not as good as it seems. The lens artifacts and distortion are atrocious.
In my case, I work in electronics with PCBs with microscopic SMD style components where a distortion-free lens is crucial, but this lamp is only distortion-free in a small area right in the center of the lens (I.d say about 30% of the total lens area. So, the lens quality is a total let down and a deal-breaker for high precision work and definitely not suitable for my purpose. I'm returning it straight away. I guess I'm gonna have to search for a more suitable one.

I just watched a video that says for a working distance of 13 inches use a 3 diopter magnifier. A 5 diopter magnifier reduces the working distance down to 8 inches. As the diopter strength increases the working distance decreases. So from this my opinion would be to go for. 3 diopter lens but of a larger diameter decreasing the area of fuzzy images. Perhaps look for a magnifier that has a swing over stronger lens for those times when you need extreme close up images. I would be interested to know if you have found a brand name magnifier since your original comment date and share it with us. I’m currently looking for the same reasons as I wish to do electronic repair work. Thanks.

Literally uses the exact same frame as the HQ MAG-LAMP21, only difference is that it's LED instead of halogen. The downside with LED however is that it's not as bright, with the Brightech clocking in at 650 lumen while the HQ one puts out 1000 lumen. Oh, and the HQ is almost half the price.

Been using this lamp for a few months. Not partial to the magnifier but that’s not specific to this lamp, I don’t like magnifiers. The lighting is fantastic and unlike every other architect style desk lamp I’ve ever used, it actually stays where you put it.

Funfact, the lid is mainly a savty device. If the lamp is mounted near a Window the sun can lit your room on Fire with that big lens and to prevent these they have a lid
