During Vangaurd’s 1st full gunnery trial, the RN set up a target that suspiciously looked in size like the battleship Bismarck and put this target at 25,000 yards, the very same distance the HMS Hood was at 5:52 am when she opened fire at the Battle of the Denmark Strait, and she scored a hit with her 1st salvo. One wonders if the Royal Navy weren’t still upset over Bismarck killing their pride of the fleet and decided to find out what would have happened if Vanguard had been in Hood’s place during the opening of the fight.
Vanguard was supposed to be armed with 8 381 mm BL 15"/42-calibre Mark 1(N) guns in 4 twin-turrets with 16 133mm QF 5.25"/50-cal Mark 1(FE) dual-purpose guns with an anti-aircraft battery of 48 40mm QF 2-Pdr Pom-Pom AA Guns and 4 20-barrel Unrotated Projectile rocket launchers with an aircraft catapult+facilities and 2 Supermarine Walrus floatplanes. At a point during her development, she had 1 twin mount 40mm Bofors-Buster AA Gun and 24 20mm Oerlikon Mark 14 Anti-Air Gun in 4 sextuple mounts Yes, the British looked at a 20mm Oerlikon in a sextuple mount.
It's not a hill that I'm going to die on defending, but it is widely recognized that all the USN's fast battleships would have had much better hydrodynamics if they had been built with a wider beam. Most especially the IOWA's, with their "long and lean" hullform, which made them very "wet" ships. As most of us here know, they were limited by the dimensions of the Panama Canal. Don't get me wrong, I love VANGUARD, both in-game and IRL. It is such a shame she was completed too late, though I often wonder why she didn't do any shore bombardment duty during Korea.
Yeah JKway, it is a myth that HMS Vanguard is a modified lion design Truth is Vanguard comes from a similar design study, but hull shapes were different reflecting their different roles
HMS Vanguard is a UR because the Vanguard class fast Battleships are the last class of battleships built for the Royal Navy and are the last battleship ever built
In DK Brown's Nelson to Vanguard The basic design of Vanguard was similar to Lion/King George V but changes were made using the lessons of the war. There were several proposals to build sister-ships taking guns from the Royal Sovereigns, but it was clear that there was insufficient effort to spare and none of these schemes was pursued.

Tbh, it was a lucky shot. Some of Bismarck’s crew were shocked that she blew up. Not to mention Hood’s crew kept her ammo hoist doors open.
@@thenoblegerman2637 Hood's crew as far as we know did not keep the ammo hoist doors open

Pffft they had an octuple 40mm mount
Yeah an octuple 40mm Pom-Pom AA Gun was standard at the time
02:50 Umm HMS Vanguard was being built to add 4th ship to the Battlecruiser Squadron and there was an urgent need for modern fast battleships

0:23 Okay I'm going to stop you right there, HMS Vanguard was 2,200ib overweight which was just a little less than half that of HMS Hood

Technically she’s a Lion-Class
Yeah that is debatable as Vanguard's development was started in 1939
