The best way to defang the right wing is this: have a referendum on immigration & asylum policy, and work to achieve the results of that referendum, whatever it is. It just seems like the best strategy is to officially gauge the temperature of the country with an actual, official vote of the people, and then work from there.

The best way to defang the right wing is this: have a referendum on immigration & asylum policy, and work to achieve the results of that referendum, whatever it is. If the result is pro-immigration/pro-asylum, then the right wing is not the majority. If the vote is anti-immigration/anti-asylum, then that's the majority and everyone else has to deal with that. It just seems like the best strategy is to officially gauge the temperature of the country with an actual, official vote of the people, and then work from there.

Referenda have unexpected consequences. Brexit was sold as anti immigration but it turns out as opposed to relying on short term single migrants we now have to attract whole families to fill in the gaps in our work force. So we now have increased immigration.

There is a good case for a civilised society to consider implementing a maximum wage or some form of control over the wealth one person or corporation can use to influence political decisions. Simply for the good of the health of society, in much the same way that a minimum wage should seek to preserve the cohesion of society.
