- Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks perform a Mirror Traffic era song live in September 2011 that will be on their upcoming record Wig Out At Jagbags. Cuts at the end, unfortunately. This was passed around on the Stephen Malkmus forum a while back.

i’ve watched this video like a hundred times and i still get mad when it cuts out.
Surreal Teenagers is a really good song. Damn.
The Zappa of indie rock.
That’s an insult.
Nah, there’s definitely a prog influence going on here. Also sounds a bit like The Who
I’ve decided to start commenting. This is my first comment.
Top-notch prog-rock with high-energy playing instead of perfection!
Just an appreciation comment for Mike, thanks for the doodly-doos
i like how at the start everyone in the background is just head banging
Jake you totally rock buddy!! I don't even miss the amazing Janet W. anymore. Big shame this cuts off though.
His solo stuff is so self-indulgent
So surreal!
It sounds really good.
Excited about the new album.
If anyone has the Lariat from this taping. It was was epic and had this awesome outro thing. NBC scrubbed it everywhere.
I might have it saved somewhere. I'll look around some old flash drives.
Yes, he is very talented.
Seriously can we find the rest lol? This is way better than the studio version.
Awesome
I NEED THE ENTIRE VERSION!!!
IT CUTS OFF AT THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE.
HOW DO WE REMEDY THIS>?
SOMEHOW HELP!?!?!?!?!
+1
The best remedy i can think of is this: hunt for it on the internet, email the band pleading for it, offer a reward of lots of money to anyone who has a copy... and then if you finally get it, post it up on youtube so we can all enjoy it :-)
God-tier band
💖
Of the 3 songs off of Wig Out at Jagbags now on youtube, both this song and Cinnamon and Lesbians have a kinda psychedelic vibe. Kind of like Pig Lib... But the third song, Lariat, is more poppy. Curious what the rest of the album sounds like
Holy fucking Jake.
Malkmus is my mentor
I've studied his guitar playing for a long time and only recently noticed he hardly ever uses a pick any more. Has any other guitar nerd noticed this, too?
Saw him live 3 days ago and was thinking the same thing.
Hmmm... I've never heard of these fine folks, but I like it!
He goes back and forth depending on the song. When I saw Pavement's final show at Matador at 21, he dropped his pick during one of the first songs and never even bothered picking it back up. That's just Malkmus for you.
I've noticed this too over the past few years. Sometimes he has one cradled up high between 2 fingers and deftly moves it down for occasional use but tends to do most everything with his fingers now. I am fascinated by how he plays - he is my fave guitarist of all time!
I really noticed this in 2005 and ever since I have very rarely seen him with a pick. Back then, he played an acoustic set from Face the Truth. It is pretty brilliant and it is here on RUclips. It was on Morning Becomes Electric and user paulmalkmus uploaded it. I highly recommend it for Malkmus fans (it helps if you know the songs.)
Face the Truth is underrated. The 1st 3 songs are bizarre and different. But the other 8 are great, classic Malkmus. Freeze the Saints, Post-Paint Boy, Malediction, No More Shoes, etc. Great, great songs.
"I went carrolling with my family..." lol
Are you kidding? It cuts off before it's over? Wtf
why does the video stop at the best part :(
Yes, that was a bummer. But happily the full version is available at Daily Motion.
who tf decided to upload this but cut off the end?
I think they got off a little. Wish I could've with rest of it
I only dig chicks with rotten toothbrush breath
