You need to brew it in the cup properly. Using sugary desert ingredients instead of normal milk is antithetical to the recipe. It's just tea, hot water and fresh milk.
We do have condensed milk. It's not used for a milk tea. You need fresh milk, not milk derivatives or manipulations. If you put condensed milk in tea, you've not made 'milk' tea.

It's honestly not that different from how we make tea. It's literally how you'd make it if you didn't have modern kettles + bags with the addition of condensed milk.
"Very very low sugar" I mean, that's roughly 2 and a half teaspoons (per tablespoon of condensed milk, that's an average of 10 grams sugar). For me, 3 was normal, 4 was sweet, and 5+ was being yelled at by horrified family.
He didn't say it wasn't sweetened, he said it wasn't very sweet. Something being sweetened just means there's something sweet added to it, it doesn't inherently mean extremely sweet tasting. You can just add a tiny bit of sugar and still call something sweetened.
I'm from Venezuela so us South Americans traditionally drink coffee/latte, like you, it took me a long time to get the exact concentration of milk and sugar. I'm going try your tea recipe. I really enjoyed this video.
RUclips must be a wizard because it seems to read my mind to recommend me this. I haven't spoken out loud to anyone or even to myself, but I did think of experimenting making milk tea with condensed milk after having a bubble tea yesterday. I tried with regular milk several times before, and it never turned out with strong enough flavor for either the tea or the milk. I'll definitely give this a method a try.
I tried this recipe three times whilst adapting some changes to my preferences, I came with the final recipe of 250ml water, 1 Iipton yellow label black tea bag, 15ml condensed milk and around 13g sugar. I didn’t use the same condensed milk because I couldn’t find it at my local supermarket, the one I have includes milk, sugar and a type of condenser, so I guess that changes the final taste as well. I need to say that this recipe is really nice for a break time relax. Thanks for the content!
@@BeatTheBush Honestly, if you are taking this sort of time and preparation, try it on the hob in a saucepan if you haven't. Mix 2:1 water to milk (or whatever ratios you end up liking). Boil, drop to a simmer, add loose tea and brew for as long as you want. Mix in sugar early on too. Strain as you pour it out. Essentially like Chai, without the spices...
I've been looking for a solid recipe that I can easily follow with explanations based on taste and thia is the best video I have found. It was specific, it made sense, and it explained why those choices like ....no wonder everything else tastes weird I wasn't considering the porportions right. Thank you so much for this
Condensed milk + sugar is not a low amount of sugar in my opinion. It maybe is compared to soda or orange juice, but that's already the sweetest stuff you can get and tea is something which is enjoyable without sugar. Still looks delicous!
BeatTheBush out here teaching our society how to wash tea leaves out of a kettle, why they need a strainer for their sink, and reminding them not to microwave cans LOL. Jokes aside, I really enjoyed this video. I, myself, have been making milk tea for maybe 8 years and learned a lot of stuff from testing it out, like you. Found myself nodding when you said milk makes the tea too watery and how too much condensed milk makes it taste thick and weird. Love how concise this video was, but also your voice was easy to listen to! Glad I came across a milk tea master on my recommended videos today.
I put a couple tablespoons of dried milk (Nido), a pinch of salt and maple syrup for sweetness. I add black jasmine tea. Literally tastes like a salted caramel candy absolutely delicious.
I actually watched the whole video and WOW the amount of engagement you put into making this is so pure. Lovely. Thank you for sharing. I'm definitely gonna try this out 💙
Engagement? I have been tweaking this recipe for so long, I'm glad you will try it! Btw, the current method is slightly different as I switched to useful fresh almond milk.
This is a complete game changer: heavy cream! My brewing routine of 12g (3 tbsp) loose tea leaves, 425ml 80℃ hot water, 50g sweetened condensed milk and 40g of heavy/whipping cream, always turns out superb. Tips for best tasting tea, DO NOT use boiling water. Hot water is when it just starts to bubble. This is crucial between floral fresh vs bitter dull brew. The very same concept of coffee brewing applies to tea! Never underestimate trivial things.
The blue flowers are corn flower, you might have seen those on fields. Bergamotte is like a more bitter grapefruit and for earl grey teas, an oil made from the fruits is jused. Corn flowers are used mostly in the french variant of earl grey teas.
I find it astonishing that as of 5/4/18. 105 honey badgers where able to successfully: use the internet, navigate to this video, and up vote this comment.

How close is the taste to the HK stocking milk tea in %? If it's close enough, I will drive 90 minutes to get the ingredients at the Chinese grocery store, thanks! :)
HK Style milk tea houses usually blend their own black teas in their own secret recipe. So yes... some ceylon some other stuff. But the condensed milk and a strong brew will get you very close. But don't drive 90 minutes for this... that sounds crazy.
The blue flowers in Earl Grey are actually cornflowers. Bergamot is a citrus fruit and bergamot oil is infused with the tea leaves to impart the unique flavour and scent.
Ok ok ok now hear me out,, try evaporated milk add it to the tea as it boils,, when it gets to the right shade of black,, even better try flavoring it with a slice of ginger let it boil with the tea.. you can add cardamom and saffron at the end .. it goes well with tea similar to Indian tea.. sugar wise if Im feeling fancy Id start with caramelizing some sugar in a pot just till its light brown add the water melt it the add the tea and spice boil it well then add the milk boil it for as long as I can to make it quite condensed and .. enjoy 👌🏼
Now after you take a sip, Take a break and breath in and out 10 times. Then take two sips and relax to enjoy the warmth as it goes down the throat. As i relax and do the mundane, 5 mins after to take another sip by sip in a row to enjoy more of the aroma and it will be the taste of the tea dominating the milk. Another 2 mins and it will be the other way around, vice versa. Seriously back in the day everything was much simpler unlike today, everything has to be complicated & technical lol. Nevertheless i enjoyed your video, your right & for the comment section is hella funny.
FYI those blue petals come from cornflower and are added for decorative purposes. Bergamot is a citrus fruit, from which essential oil is extracted to flavor earl grey tea (its also used in parfumes, etc).

It's honestly not that different from how we make tea. It's literally how you'd make it if you didn't have modern kettles + bags with the addition of condensed milk.
no brits are complaining
This is a comfort zone. I will come here when I need to see pure people
This video has come up 5 or 6 times in the last year and I have watch the full video every time I opened the video up... it’s weirdly satisfying
Wow! Thank you for watching! =D
"Very very low sugar"
I mean, that's roughly 2 and a half teaspoons (per tablespoon of condensed milk, that's an average of 10 grams sugar). For me, 3 was normal, 4 was sweet, and 5+ was being yelled at by horrified family.
Hahaha! In my house I would get yelled at for more than 2 spoons, now I don't even like sugar in the milk tea.
5:54 "So you can say this condensed milk is not very sweet"
*Sweetened Condensed Milk*
did u not see the word 'this'
Gray Au your crown's fake and u don't own tea culture
Something that’s sweetened doesn’t necessarily taste sweet you inbred carcass of human waste.
See! Yes! The ratio of all of the things and strength of the tea all factors in. The final drinking temperature also matters a lot too.
I hope things work out in your country soon, it's a terrible situation.
CoolCat Carolena what kinda venezuelan are you? The poor kind of the rich kind that sucks off the country?
what what is happening in Singapore?
I'm from College, coffee is life! But I want to try tea too
RUclips must be a wizard because it seems to read my mind to recommend me this.
Wow, I tried out your tea recipe it was really good, going to start to make my milk tea like this from now on. Well done
Since this video, I have used a homemade almond milk. Perhaps I should redo this video for my latest recipe.
BeatTheBush ooo yeah make it I love this old recipe it will probably taste even better now.
=D
@@BeatTheBush please show us an update making of milk tea, using almond milk. Thanks.
me too! happened to have condensed milk at home. I've been making my assam milk tea like this ever since watching this video.
This is an art-form.
*Me who's been making milk tea for myself every morning for years* : This video looks informative and helpful
Lol
Ditto..making and having tea 3 times a day since 25 years still watching and enjoying it 😂😂tea lovers are as lovely as tea 😂
FYI, I tried the yellow label a few times and which country it comes from matters a lot. Look for the Orange Pekoe yellow label next time around.
To get even richer flavor try to boil a fresh milk with tea leaves at the same time 👍🏻
Agreed. More creamy indeed.
Oohh ohhh... good tip!!
Thank you so much for this
You appreciated the points I tried to emphasize. You get this video. For that, thank you. =D
If you liked this one. I have an alternate version using almond milk. Interesting that it gives a very familiar creamy texture without using diary.
Nice, that one sounds interesting to me as my mom is lactose-intolerant so I can make that for her!
This man is so pure. I've never been drawn to subscribe so quickly.
I legit do the same, "its uhh... about that much of a spoonful" loved the entire video. Straight to the point
This dude really used his microwave as a timer🤣🤣
Tyler Kheang nah my microwave has a timer on it too. The microwave isn’t actually on
I do that 🙋
I put a couple tablespoons of dried milk (Nido), a pinch of salt and maple syrup for sweetness. I add black jasmine tea. Literally tastes like a salted caramel candy absolutely delicious.
We use regular milk for the tea but trust me, milk tea is like a gift from heaven
Ahh... try boiling the tea in the milk then.
I use the Indian way.
Miss Teak yup Chai ftw
Ishi1XP yes
The blue flowers in Earl Grey are cornflowers, bergamot is a citrus often added as an oil or dried peel. Nice video!!
I usually want videos like this to be straighforward but I actually enjoyed this one and watched til the end without changing the speed to 2x faster 😊
=D Thank you!
Im waiting for him to say, "now I'm using my heart shaped Spoon because I'm so specific when making milk tea." :D
😂😂😂
This is dope. We all have that one piece of our lives that's just perfect!
The blue flowers are corn flower, you might have seen those on fields. Bergamotte is like a more bitter grapefruit and for earl grey teas, an oil made from the fruits is jused. Corn flowers are used mostly in the french variant of earl grey teas.
Upvote if you are honey badger on infinite vacation drinking milk tea
Lol... btw... better use a bit less sugar to get more life out of that infinite vacation.
I find it astonishing that as of 5/4/18. 105 honey badgers where able to successfully: use the internet, navigate to this video, and up vote this comment.
ÑANII Did you just put the punctuation(s) out of the quotations of the last word???????
ÑANII no, u cant read. Smh.
Hes saying that because you upvote reddit, thumbs up youtube xD
Why did i just spend 9 minutes to learn how to make milk tea... anyways it looks so good! Ofc i will give it a try
Me scrolling through the comments trying to find the comments from Brits complaining.
*Edit* I found 1
1 comment is all it takes to get the yanks complaining.
Yeah I only saw one too. But I saw at least 20 people complaining about others complaining.
why is this so reletable lmao
This is gold. Can someone help me find a video this guy made where he talks about the price of tea he buys and used to buy? I remember watching it but I cannot find it!
I thought I did that in this video already. I did make another version that uses almond milk.
Person: this is a very specific amount but idk how much it is *eyeballs the measurement *
Me: boy if u dont
Person: let's measure to see *ends up being exactly.1 tbsp*
Me: .......fluke.....
Him: measures again 1 tbsp
Me:..........
Lmao
With all the craziness going on in the world this video makes me feel at peace.
Love this....and I love that it’s a specific about but with no measurement!!! LOVE IT
Thank you!
Can I use green tea, instead? Or does it has to be black tea?
Idk go for it yolo
Did you just time 5 minutes on a microwave
he's in 3019
This is my second time watching this
=D
"it tastes not bad" nice, exactly what I've been looking for 🔥
filex .C hhhh
=D
lmao
The color of tea with the creamer is so beautiful thats what i've been aiming for in a coffee with cream but rarely succeeded it.
How close is the taste to the HK stocking milk tea in %? If it's close enough, I will drive 90 minutes to get the ingredients at the Chinese grocery store, thanks! :)
Jessie Lee for hk style milk tea u have to use Ceylon black tea
HK Style milk tea houses usually blend their own black teas in their own secret recipe. So yes... some ceylon some other stuff. But the condensed milk and a strong brew will get you very close. But don't drive 90 minutes for this... that sounds crazy.
Thanks guys!
The blue flowers in Earl Grey are actually cornflowers. Bergamot is a citrus fruit and bergamot oil is infused with the tea leaves to impart the unique flavour and scent.
Ok ok ok now hear me out,, try evaporated milk add it to the tea as it boils,, when it gets to the right shade of black,, even better try flavoring it with a slice of ginger let it boil with the tea.. you can add cardamom and saffron at the end .. it goes well with tea similar to Indian tea.. sugar wise if Im feeling fancy Id start with caramelizing some sugar in a pot just till its light brown add the water melt it the add the tea and spice boil it well then add the milk boil it for as long as I can to make it quite condensed and .. enjoy 👌🏼
He can reverse brew the tea n let it boil then follow your steps n let it shimmer that is going to be awesome too سبحان الله
bro this isn't a tea anymore but a meal
Now after you take a sip,
Take a break and breath in and out 10 times.
The Commitment and Dedication is real 🙌
Me : Enjoying my cuppa tea
* Eventually this vid pops up*
Me : spit that god damn tea and make another one
XD
"The amount of condensed milk I want is very specific....... I don't know how much this is"
I explained it so much because people never read the comments.
The blue leaves in the Earl Grey Tea are actually corn flower petals. Bergamot is a citrus fruit.
I'm gonna make the iced version of this. Thank you.
Don't cool it with ice. Put it in the fridge, otherwise the ice will melt and dilute your drink.
And put boba! Yummm
I only clicked because the thumbnail made me think you put the water in the cup first with no tea bag or milk
I don’t know why I thought he would do it in a giant tea cup lol
FYI those blue petals come from cornflower and are added for decorative purposes. Bergamot is a citrus fruit, from which essential oil is extracted to flavor earl grey tea (its also used in parfumes, etc).
