Agree. AD&D 1st Edition DMs Guide and especially the Castles & Crusades Castle Keepers guide are the best and ideal books to learn and understand how to be a DM/GM. ❤

11 group sessions later my players are really liking C&C. Even my most hesitant player has come around and really likes C&C. Running C&C has been like a breath of fresh air after many years of 5e. I feel like I am playing D&D again.

Glad to see someone shout out Castles & Crusades. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to run classic modules using the Siege Engine. It's also close to my heart because I have the privilege of being a credited playtester for it!

I just got one of my D&D tables to agree to switch to C&C. Expect to finish current campaign next Wednesday and convert the characters over. Looking forward to it! The Chennault(sp?) bros at Troll Lord Games seem like good dudes.

@@dm_curt I've honestly never interacted with the Chenaults directly, or anyone at Troll Lord Games, for that matter. But I love the system, it's my favorite version of OGL/OSR rules. I'm happy to see them standing their ground on the OGL1.1 fracas.

Been my go-to for Fantasy. I've had 5e players come into C&C and they love playing it. Less worries about building a character "right", character roles are more focused... no "insight" rolls lol... that one made them more receptive to the environment using their own brains.

You can also get hardback Print versions of their books. I'll show one in my next video (or 2?)

We created a "war wagon" in one campaign.

I have since seeing this video bought a bunch of the books and have run two minis sessions. This month I am planning on running a bigger session for hopefully 3 or more players. I have yet to see anything in the rules I did not care for.

What, Gygax would not have added complex mechanics for social interactions??? LOL I never checked into C&C when it released, we played 3e. I will have to see if I can score the core books and take a look.

Why shouldnt they look at the books in your avatar? 🤔

Those are PHBs, not DMGs, but sure, look at whatever you want.

@@dm_curt well if they aren't reading the PHB, then no wonder they need help learning to play an RPG. 😛

Or better yet, throw out the trash that is 5e and just play C&C. The most elegant system out there. East to pick up no matter what edition of D&D you play. Better yet, the creators are more interested in games than wokeness.
