Was working for a company in US and met a desi guy who was looking for partnership in his company. As due diligence, we did financial and background check of the company and the businessman. Turned out he was a senior officer of pakistan army, retired and settled in US. His company is worth few million $ but there is no money trail of his company origin and entire thing looked very serious. Yet company wanted to invest as the businessman had right location but no sense of business. So we hired a private investigator company to deep dive on the businessman to check if it was drug money or any other criminal origin. This pakistani army officer came from humble background yet after retirement came and settled with US and started million $ venture. Our company decided to not proceed further as we could not ascertain if money was from corruption, terrorism, drug business or all of the above.
Is one supposed to inform the authorities when something like this is discovered. That's the law, right. What did the investigative agency advise? To just let it slide? Looks like a legal quagmire, even hiring someone to look into this. The best thing to do would probably be to get out when one smells rat, rather than try looking for the source of the stench. Just saying.

We could do business in such instances but it is a high risk venture. Some companies do take the risk as profit that can be generated is really high. But if FBI or IRS starts investigation later then it normally ends very badly.
I m a resident of buner and i was 7years old when taliban came here and were openly wandering on roads, came to our mosques preaching terrorism to young adults who are missing persons now. I remember how terrified we were leaving our homes and villages behind and going islamabad. Most of the locals didn't afford to leave but they have to and they stayed there at idp camps. they lost their businesses, their cattles, some have lost thier cars because taliban liked it. We have suffered the same fate in Kashmir. Our successive govts used to talk to Huriyat and we continued to same stone pelting and acts of terror. Finally we got a got which not only stopped talking to them but went actively after them. Look at Kashmir now. People roam in Lal chowk at night, schools have reopened, women are now actively involved in all walks of life and there is a general atmosphere of safety and security.

And Indo Pak relations are still stuck in Vajpayee _ Musharraf era. What is happening is simple. Pakistan army generals want $$$. USA will give rain of $$$ to Army generals and they will push Pakistan into war with Afghanistan. It is as simple as well. Everything else is basically smoke, all created to the army has a justification to wage war on Afghanistan. A country that is falling apart internally and on brink of default on loans is not at all in positon to wage any sort of war you see. But USA wants to make it happen. The same thing that happened in the mid and late 2000s will happen again in Pakistan if it goes down this route. But Pakistan will take this route since Army wants $$$ and this is the way that they have been getting them for decades, by being army for higher for USA.

Was working for a company in US and met a desi guy who was looking for partnership in his company. As due diligence, we did financial and background check of the company and the businessman. Turned out he was a senior officer of pakistan army, retired and settled in US. His company is worth few million $ but there is no money trail of his company origin and entire thing looked very serious. Yet company wanted to invest as the businessman had right location but no sense of business. So we hired a private investigator company to deep dive on the businessman to check if it was drug money or any other criminal origin. This pakistani army officer came from humble background yet after retirement came and settled with US and started million $ venture. Our company decided to not proceed further as we could not ascertain if money was from corruption, terrorism, drug business or all of the above.
Is one supposed to inform the authorities when something like this is discovered. That's the law, right. What did the investigative agency advise? To just let it slide? Looks like a legal quagmire, even hiring someone to look into this. The best thing to do would probably be to get out when one smells rat, rather than try looking for the source of the stench.

We could do business in such instances but it is a high risk venture. Some companies do take the risk as profit that can be generated is really high. But if FBI or IRS starts investigation later then it normally ends very badly.
I m a resident of buner and i was 7years old when taliban came here and were openly wandering on roads, came to our mosques preaching terrorism to young adults who are missing persons now.
I remember how terrified we were leaving our homes and villages behind and going islamabad. Most of the locals didn't afford to leave but they have to and they stayed there at idp camps. they lost their businesses, their cattles, some have lost thier cars because taliban liked it.
And many have lost thier lives.
My beutiful homeland was occupied with war.
I hope it never happen again.

My knowledge of Urdu is spotty at best; would you consider English language captions for your overseas viewers? We are interested in what is happening inside Pakistan and credible factual sources are few and far between.
What is happening is simple.
Pakistan army generals want $$$. USA will give rain of $$$ to Army generals and they will push Pakistan into war with Afghanistan. It is as simple as well.
Everything else is basically smoke, all created to the army has a justification to wage war on Afghanistan. A country that is falling apart internally and on brink of default on loans is not at all in positon to wage any sort of war you see. But USA wants to make it happen. The same thing that happened in the mid and late 2000s will happen again in Pakistan if it goes down this route. But Pakistan will take this route since Army wants $$$ and this is the way that they have been getting them for decades, by being army for higher for USA.

Mujhe yaad hai 96 mein yehi Pakistan Air Force, Taliban ke liye "Close air support" mission kiya karti thi. Aur issi Pakistan Air Force ne Taliban aur Al Qaeda ki hierarchy ko 2001 mein Kunduz se "Air Lift" kiya.
