The good news is the licience is totally free and can be downloaded and printed from the crown estates websi te. Strange. I travel from South Wales to North Wales regularly. Was at Borth-y-guest a few weeks back. I had no problems. Parked where you did, and walked all around the area.
Hi Mel. The problems are normally based on not understanding and not wanting to share a nice place to live. I live just off the promenade in St Anne's and there's loads of room for free parking with toilets and no restrictions. Plenty of vans park here and although you'll always get a few people who might have a moan the town welcomes everyone. Hi Mel. Honest video as usual, but not a great advert for Welsh tourism. You would think that the locals would welcome visitors during the holiday season, especially after the Covid19 restrictions.
I think you handled that very delicately. To be fair you've as much right to park there as a martian from outerspace! There not even allowed to put cones down either! Cheeky cow her son has camper van! 😆😆😆😆 oh well comprise of having a house in a beautiful location which doesn't have a drive!

North Wales is absolutely rammed with #vanlifers at the moment, so it's no surprise that patience is wearing thin. The volume of vans, and especially inconsiderate a-holes who litter, cr*p or empty their toilets in laybys is spoiling it for everyone - lots of new 'no overnight' signs; private security firms being employed to enforce the bans & spots that have been used discreetly for years being closed off. Not your fault, Mel, but that's how it is.

There is a second hand van shortage.... 60% of vans are being converted to camper vans, so we heard recently...I'm glad we got ours when we did...(about 3 yrs ago)... the price has escalated...
I’ve been visiting north wales 🏴 to windsurf/kitesurf for over 30 odd years as an adult. I’ve had Vw campers one which I made myself and now a California. I’ve always wild camped or used local campsites. I’ve never seen so many motor homes, camper van, self builds. Loads of spots I’ve wild camped at are now gone. Signs up, barriers. Tbh it’s spoilt it for a lot of people.I’d arrive late and leave at first light. Tbh I can see why they’d get pissed off looking at the side of a van continually last summer and this summer. People have took the piss. They’re not bothered about anyone other than a free park up. The thing is the minute you make a video showing a location it’s going to be overrun and the locals will be pissed off, leading the council to act and the police to enforce the bylaws. The same thing has happened to wildcamping in the hills too. Park discreetly, leave no trace, don’t piss the locals off. Keep the locations off RUclips. Problem solved.

Probably why I’ve never had any grief till now and the whole van life trend and let’s park up wherever we want and f?ck everyone else and then rub peoples faces in it making a video showing the locations it’s just adding to the problem. Surprise, surprise the locals are fed up with it. Let me guess you’d loved vans constantly parked outside your house or are you a hypocrite.
Hi Mel & Becky, Your not causing trouble again LOL, first the rubbish at the campsite, then Becky your t-shirt and now the curtain twitchers, I know you don't go looking for trouble, it just naturally knows where you are, lol, never a dull moment , loving the vids , stay safe , healing hugs to you both x ( PS sorry Becky if I spelt your name wrong)👍👍
Nice stopover , shame about the complaints. It never ceases to amaze me why folk who live in stunning locations complain about visitors , what did they expect when they bought into living there...same as folk who move in next to a school and complain that its too noisy...did you pass through Abersoch, beautiful beaches, I spent many years holidaying there during my youth although Ill bet its changed a lot since then
Its pronounced as bore-th, as in thank. Y is pronounced as -uhh and gest is like guest. Borth y gest is by Porthmadog and black rock sands is just around to the right.
Back in the day when I use to visit Wales the saying was, " Come home to a real fire, buy a holiday cottage in Wales " ! The locals must of mellowed Mel, thank goodness😉🏴🚐
I am a local born and bred and I too am made to feel unwelcome in Borth y Gest if I try to park my van. And as for a comment made in this feed about locals making them feel unwelcome, I am sorry that they had this experience. However most inhabitants of Borth are people who have bought up the vast majority of the homes in this beauty spot and are not therefore Welsh!
Love the video and the place life is to precious to be getting hastle let them all wallow in their own anger! Keep the vids coming you two take care 👍👍👍😎
One problem with a lot of seaside resorts now ban dogs on the beach, yet Donkeys are still allowed. Seems they want to turn the tourists away. The locals should stop complaining and realise the benefits of the money coming in.
That’s quite regular up there. It’s a lovely place but spoiled by the locals. We had bad interactions on three campsites and vowed to stay away. They have nothing but tourism but you can find a high proportion of these kind of people. Real shame.
Ah they keep a welcome in the hillside but they won’t like you parking in front of their Digs . Speaking as an ex biker who spent a lot of weekends touring round wales . Not sure they will like my ex military Unimog with a basic camper set up driving through their country either . 🤣
As a Welsh person myself, I always find it utterly baffling how many of us seem to have the "this is a local place, for local people" mentality. We prattle on about Wales being "god's own country", I don't see the point in bragging about the scenery to then complain when people come to look at it. Even in Wales, North Wales has an especially bad reputation for it. Pity really as the economy is heavily tourism reliant. I don't understand the logic myself. If you're doing a tour of the whole of Wales, Brecon is quite standout for its carparks allowing overnight campers among other spectacular parkups in the area
@@BigVanSmallWorld glad you're enjoying it, it can be quite stunning can't it. All going well, I'm hoping to finally get my van finished in the next month or 2 and try and do some of Scotland before it gets too cold
It's a myth that the economy is "heavily reliant" on tourism, and if it was, selling ice creams to visitors in the rain for three months of the year on minimum wage would hardly be an inspiring foundation for our communities, would it? I don't think anyone was particularly 'unwelcoming' in this little story, and Mel certainly doesn't seem to have been too upset or even inconvenienced by it, though he has a knack for keeping a smile on his face whatever the circumstance. Compared to the vicious parking wars that can erupt in quiet suburbia, this sounds very much like a teddy bears' picnic.
@@YDysgwrAraf it's not a myth that the economy is heavily reliant on tourism, it's a myth when people say "it depends on tourism". But it does account for nearly £2 billion yearly and nearly 40k jobs. I lived in pembrokeshire for decades and have seen for myself how yearly tourism helps support such counties. I mean, it is pretty unwelcoming telling someone they need to move so your son can park a similar vehicle in the same spot rather than a few feet down the road. But my comment was more coming from his experience reminding me of my own when I've visited North Wales. I wasn't implying that 1 person being a bit of an arse was the end of the world, It just reminds me that every time I've visited, I've encountered unreasonably high numbers of rude people, even when I was a child, simply because I was an outsider. I have heard stories from many others who've experienced similar, it's a running theme and shameful.
Hi Mel. If you would've walked past the car park to the very end of the street, a footpath takes you to some small caves, with fantastic views of Portmeirion.
Beautiful place stunning views and the little library is a wonderful idea. Sometimes it’s ashame about the locals :( I’ll be the same try my best to keep them happy. Be worth a vist. But if your van was blocking I hate to think what they would say about my van parked there 😂 as it’s the lwb 😂 great video buddy big hugs 🤗 ☺️
Well Mel to keep the peace you would always try to respect the locals but it’s a public highway so why be forced to move if your not braking any rules.

Nope Becky is spelt correctly! And yes - trouble seems to follow us. Even when we are on our BEST behaviour! 🤣🤣🤣
Where else are you touring in wales mate?
I’m out now
@@BigVanSmallWorld just wondered where else you travelling to in our lovely country 😀
Another good blog mel there's arrogance in all walks of life well handled mel
Thank you 😊
Where did the chihuahua comes from?
BH I’d get moved with my 2 Chi’s not the van.
😂😂😂
😂👍
Nice stopover , shame about the complaints. It never ceases to amaze me why folk who live in stunning locations complain about visitors , what did they expect when they bought into living there...same as folk who move in next to a school and complain that its too noisy...did you pass through Abersoch, beautiful beaches, I spent many years holidaying there during my youth although Ill bet its changed a lot since then
I know you’re absolutely right 👍😂👍
Very good Mel as usual 🙂
Thank you 🙏
Its pronounced as bore-th, as in thank. Y is pronounced as -uhh and gest is like guest. Borth y gest is by Porthmadog and black rock sands is just around to the right.
Thank you 🙏
Hello FROM DENMARK BJARNE XPOST greth VIDEOS FROM YOU AND FRENDS over ther and Rebaca 🐈🇬🇧🇩🇰
Back in the day when I use to visit Wales the saying was, " Come home to a real fire, buy a holiday cottage in Wales " ! The locals must of mellowed Mel, thank goodness😉🏴🚐
Haha brilliant thank you buddy 👍😊
Is that borth by Aberystwyth.
I think so
No - near Porthmadog.
Hi Mel, I know where u r used to off road near Porthmadog, they don’t like off roaders either so I know how u feel , cheers
It’s all very sad 😔
Locals should appreciate famous RUclipsr visiting! 😂
Haha ya think wouldn’t you 👍😂👍
Nice of you to show us around Mel but you must not leave your side door open and wonder off
Thank you for your concern 😊👍

Thank you 😊
Stunning location and all free, thank you for taking us along.. xx
Thank you 😊
Wasn’t grotbags in the pink windmill was it Mel 😂😂
No she was sweet as
One problem with a lot of seaside resorts now ban dogs on the beach, yet Donkeys are still allowed. Seems they want to turn the tourists away. The locals should stop complaining and realise the benefits of the money coming in.
As always I love your vlogs ...
Hi ya thank you 🙏 🇬🇧🥰🇦🇺
That’s quite regular up there. It’s a lovely place but spoiled by the locals. We had bad interactions on three campsites and vowed to stay away. They have nothing but tourism but you can find a high proportion of these kind of people. Real shame.
Such a shame but nice to know it’s not just me still plenty of other places to go and see 👍😊👍
Nice location shame about the local sheep.!!!!!
Ah they keep a welcome in the hillside but they won’t like you parking in front of their Digs . Speaking as an ex biker who spent a lot of weekends touring round wales . Not sure they will like my ex military Unimog with a basic camper set up driving through their country either . 🤣
That’s brilliant go for it 👍😂👍
Problem with Wales, is its full of Welsh people.
That’s a little hard
The UK and Camper-Vans eh........!!
Oh it’s all ok 👍 😂👍
As a Welsh person myself, I always find it utterly baffling how many of us seem to have the "this is a local place, for local people" mentality.
We prattle on about Wales being "god's own country", I don't see the point in bragging about the scenery to then complain when people come to look at it.
Even in Wales, North Wales has an especially bad reputation for it.
Pity really as the economy is heavily tourism reliant.
I don't understand the logic myself.
If you're doing a tour of the whole of Wales, Brecon is quite standout for its carparks allowing overnight campers among other spectacular parkups in the area
Thank you buddy I’m totally in love with Wales 🏴
@@BigVanSmallWorld glad you're enjoying it, it can be quite stunning can't it.
All going well, I'm hoping to finally get my van finished in the next month or 2 and try and do some of Scotland before it gets too cold
It's the same in England. I've had similar issues here and that wasn't even in a campervan. It's just people 🏴
It's a myth that the economy is "heavily reliant" on tourism, and if it was, selling ice creams to visitors in the rain for three months of the year on minimum wage would hardly be an inspiring foundation for our communities, would it?
I wasn't implying that 1 person being a bit of an arse was the end of the world,
It just reminds me that every time I've visited, I've encountered unreasonably high numbers of rude people, even when I was a child, simply because I was an outsider.
I have heard stories from many others who've experienced similar, it's a running theme and shameful.
Nice place I hope it doesn’t get over run now lol
Ops 😂👍
It's a shame the car park doesn't allow overnight but you just know it was a few inconsiderates who spoiled it for everyone.
That’s absolutely right
Sorry you're stay wasn't what it should have been with locals , i only mentioned wanting independence for Yorkshire 😊
Thank you 😊
Hi Mel.
If you would've walked past the car park to the very end of the street, a footpath takes you to some small caves, with fantastic views of Portmeirion.
Oh that’s a shame I missed that 😊👍
Love fish and chips wish they had them here .Can you metal detect while the tide is down? Beautiful place Mel thankyou .Stay safe .
Yes I’m always metal detecting 👍😊
Beautiful place stunning views and the little library is a wonderful idea. Sometimes it’s ashame about the locals :(
I’ll be the same try my best to keep them happy. Be worth a vist. But if your van was blocking I hate to think what they would say about my van parked there 😂 as it’s the lwb 😂 great video buddy big hugs 🤗 ☺️
Thank you buddy 😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 🤗🤗🤗
Well Mel to keep the peace you would always try to respect the locals but it’s a public highway so why be forced to move if your not braking any rules.
I was really polite to them all the time I was there and they was the same in return 👍
Another good vid Mel....I would still like your Bluetti so I could learn Welsh on the Beach with my laptop...then i could walk up to someone completely naked and say "Lay Back and Prestatyn" :)
Haha 😂
Its a sad fact the vanlife is becoming frowned upon by many.
Well it’s not going to stop me 👍😊
Come back to Kent Mel you get dizzy 😵 outside Kent mate, you can sell me the van and start a new build in the Autumn lol. 😂😉👍🏻
Make me an offer 😝
Great vid as always 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Your just a stones throw from Porthmadog, don't forget that cafe with the world's best lemon meringue pie
