I did have the immense privilege to meet Jos on the top of Helvellyn back in the 1970s. I had struggled up (walking) from Thirlmere when this guy shot past me. I caught him up while he was eating a rock cake on the summit. Apparently he had not started his run at the foot of the mountain, but had run all the way from Braithwaite, many miles away. He said that he would reach Thirlmere in 22 minutes, but if he did not he would turn around and run back up!!!!!
    What a man!

Thank you for this video. An absolute hero of mine, one of the best ever but always modest and kind. Think the Lakeland fell running community gave some comfort on this day to his family as to how well he was regarded.

I couldn't capture on the phone all the extent of how many fell runners there were. BBC Cumbria was there with their equipment but they didn't even go up a bit to film. I think they filmed all the runners running past the church.

Благодаря Olga. I was thrilled for us all to be invited then came down with Covid this week. It’s been painful to miss it although having that thought weigh heavily on me probably shows enough of what Joss meant to our sport and sensibility. I was wondering too whether being there amongst every vest imaginable would have moved me much, but even if it hadn’t, the playing of Beethoven’s Pastoral would have been enough I’m sure. Our task now has to be to take his spirit to every trig point, dale and mere…
