Olga's British Fells
Великобритания
Добавлен 5 сен 2021
A life of a Russian woman on the British fells, trails and mountains. I like to explore - I do whatever it takes to get around - run, walk, climb, crawl. I live in the North-West of England but come from St-Petersburg, Russia. Sometimes in my videos I go to different places rather than the British countryside and talk about my cultural heritage and where I come from.
Additional information:
I have a few viewers who have joined recently, who are not from the UK. Therefore, I would like to explain what a "fell" is.
"Fell" is a type of landscape very typical to North of England (as well as Scotland, Wales and Ireland). It's a hilly landscape with certain type of vegetation, mostly moorlands, mossy, or boggy type. It's hard to describe it, but, honestly mountainous areas in other countries have a kinder underfoot. Fell running is rough, often on no path with high elevation. It's rougher than trail running. Fell running shoes have a better grip than trail running ones.

Exploring Simon's Seat & the exhilarating descent off the top - Wharfedale - experiencing for myself
Today (in this video) is Thursday 24 October 2024. After last Saturday's (19 October 2024) British Fell and Hill Relay, which was held in Wharfedale, I wanted to come back here and explore the Simon's Seat area. Simon Seat is a rocky heathery hill of 485 m, it was Check Point 1 on Leg 2 of the 2024 British Fell Relay. During the event I was watching and supporting the runners, I went to a lot of part of the route but skipped Simon's Seat, so I wanted to come back here and explore. I went with my husband Russell and my younger daughter Olivia.

It is a great film Olga and it is an awesome landscape to be in . The day after the British Championship in Appletreewick just in the same place of the races , we did the fell race '' Charlesworth Chase'' that goes up to the Simon's Seat and back , it was very wet and windy but we enjoyed the 4 miler run .
@@antoniocardinale6958 oh I am glad you did the race Antonio. I was considering it but that means I would've been away from the family for two weekend days in a row. Did it go up Simon's Seat? It must have been difficult in the wet and windy weather.
You have done a magnificent job Olga , with great filming all over Appletreewick . Well done to all the runners , especially to the super Ted Mason and to the English Champion and winner of Leg 4 Dr Ben Rothery .

Hello from Richard with the radio. I do have some photos from the event which I'll have to put somewhere. It's a great event.
@@richardcorfield9926 Did you have a good time doing radio communication? Our marshalls liked the marshalling on Angle Tarn.
Great video olga it's first one I've watched for a while I've not been well lately just getting back to some kind of decent running.
@@OlgasBritishFells Yep. It's always good to see the race coming through too. We had people on all of the checkpoints, so are in a lucky position to be able to hear the progress of the race as it happens. We also cover safety communications, for example if there is an injury or someone returns to checkpoint or (as in one year) someone goes missing in the hilltop cloud. (They made their way to the safety of a farm in the end and called through to report their safety.) There was no mobile phone signal at Angle Tarn on either of the 3 networks we had access to, so the radio link is the only way short of sending a runner to get help.

Looks very interesting, hadn't heard of these races before but have done some of the Kong races which are similar but different as they're points races so no set course, there's a start/finish then you try and visit as many waypoints as you can in any order in-between, will definitely look into doing one of these events now though.
It's first time I've heard of this event too. It was to late to sign up as it was already booked up when I found out about it. There's a different start point and slightly different area each year. I want to try to do it next year.
