I came back to this after over a year because I kept getting reminded of the Cascades doing a Whack-A-Mole imitation over it's existence every time I see Mount Hood (from Portland). The thought that the entire Cascade range has existed essentially as it is throughout the human occupation of North America blows me away. The idea that just a single mountain's worth of erosion and has occurred during the entire existence of Homo Sapiens does the same. BTW, I'm a total non-academia lay-nerd who just loves your stuff.
Everytime I sit here and listen to Nick And his colleagues explain how events of geology throughout Earths history. It reminds me of how as humans in comparison to The scale of time how minuscule we really are. We live our daily lives thinking and mainly forgetting how old our Precious planet really is. Thank s to Nick and his Colleagues for enlightening us through geology , reminding us in our moment of time how brief we really are… Amazing!! Enjoy the day with friends and family… it is a gift!!
I remember looking at those columns along highway 12, and thinking, "Didn't Nick say in one of his lectures that these were NOT flood basalts, but from something else?". I tried explaining this to my friend who was driving, and remembered Nick also mentioned something about other car occupants jumping into traffic as a result of impromptu geology lectures. Fortunately I stopped in time to save his life. But I'm also glad that I had remembered partially correctly! I'm embarrassed to admit how much Nick's talks influenced my decision to move to Yakima.
You in the North West are so lucky to have Nick. I live in Adelaide South Australia and really enjoy these lectures even though our real estate is so very different. Thank you for your energy and education Nick. 🇦🇺

I love Nick’s talks - so informative and he keeps it interesting. I wish we had similar information on East Coast Geology.
