I would really like to know about hooking up the USB cable to a computer “laptop” and know what additional information it either will give you or if it simply provides a way for you to print everything out?
Great video as always. I have a problem and I could not figure what is the cause. When I put the key in position two, the check engine light does not light at all, while in cluster test (test #2) it lights, so it is not the bulb or connector. What do you think the problem is? when connected to INPA it reads the ecu normally. Any help would be appreciated.
Does the CReader VI do everything the CResetter does, in addition to reading and resetting codes, etc? In other words, will the CReaderVI reset service reminders and oil/maintenance lights? Or do I have to buy both units?
You would have to purchase both units. The CReader VI only does fault codes (and the rest of the live and freeze-frame data) and the CResetter only does the service resets.
Ahmed Fawzy Unfortunately, we don't have any guidance on this one (your check engine light not coming on when key is in position #2). Have you considered a faulty ignition switch (common on these models, for various electrical symptoms)?
BavarianAuto Thank you very much for your response. The car seems to be really fine both mechanically and electrically, it doesn't have any electrical gremlins. Is there anything specific I should look for in the cluster when connecting car to program like INPA? I think that the previous owner cut the circuit between the light and ecu to disable it, because when I got this car the airbag light was covered with black silicon, so I assume he could do that too. I would also appreciate it if you could guide me to the engine light wiring diagram or something like that. Thanks in advance, really appreciated
Ahmed Fawzy - You'll need to find a wiring diagram for your 520i. You can then check the source for the light to see if it is functioning. Further diagnostics will depend of what you find there.
I got the creader V and I hooked it up to a few different cars and it always says the map sensor is reading 1inHG even when a vacuum gauge is attached reading 17-19inHG. Any ideas why its doing this? Is it a faulty scanner?
How do you (if possible) use one of these OBD-ii readers to determine whether or not codes have been erased and if a problem is still present after codes are cleared? I'm considering getting one for used-car shopping, but if it can't tell me if codes have been erased, I'm not sure how useful it will be to that end. Thanks
These hand-held readers cannot tell if codes have been erased. However, the C-Reader VI can check to see if all of the readiness monitors have been satisfied. If any are still open, this indicates a recent clearing or fault codes and the system has not had enough time to run through all the system checks.
BavarianAuto Thank you for the quick reply. That should be good enough to at least determine the likeliness a seller is trying to hide issues with a vehicle. Much appreciated.
I got an issue with the Creader 6. It's a brilliant tool but the history/review bit has got me baffled. Anyone got the solution that can be shared with everyone? The issues I've encountered is on the data-stream playback the tool just displays what is thinks I wish to see. How do I get it to show the data I need to see? When does it start to record the live data-stream and when does it stop? I've just done an one hour drive and it's recorded 29 frames of data which seems quite wrong. I have had it, about 6(ish) times, record a defined (5 or less) set of parameters while watching the data-stream on the graphing option but I've seem to have done this by accident. I'm having a guess that many more people will be scratching their heads on how to correctly set-up the tool's data recorder. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to set-up and use the data-stream recorded once enabled? What I'm after is capturing a set of parameters and view a few others as a graph, changing what is being plotted while not interrupting what is being recorded. The bit that has me beat is where the data-stream replay seems to decide what I want to see and gets it wrong, when to start logging data and when to stop.
We do have a BMW specific code reader and reset tool for the pre OBD-II models. The tool also resets the oil and inspection reminders on all BMWs that have the underhood diagnostic ports (most models from th early '80s through the late '90s or early '00s). See the link below: www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=sr%20300
These codes are for lean on bank 1 and bank 2. The most common issue would be a vacuum leak. We would suggest that you closely inspect the rubber intake boots (between the air filter box and the throttle body, in the intake manifold). These would be the most common areas for cracks and vacuum leaks. After this, we would have the intake "smoke tested". This injects a smoke into the intake and any leaks show as a the smoke leaks out. Call us at 800-535-2002 for more assistance or parts.
If you disconnected the battery first, then reconnected after the seats were back in and reconnected, all should be OK. If you did not disconnect the battery, you should typically be OK as long as the ignition was not turned on.
hi I have 2001 bmw 530i and the service engine soon came on and the fault code is p0171 and p0174 what do i have to check to fix this problem some people says the 02 oxigen sensor and 01 oxigen sensor have to be replace and other people change the air filter and clean the maff senson please help
eric smith Ok, I see where you mean. Not sure why they used the $ symbol. Anyway, that screen is saying there are 3 codes and 7 pending codes on this vehicle.
I just bought one these off Ebay and screwed up my 2010 Honda Civic. As soon as I plugged in my Honda to give it a try it triggered all my warning lights! Tried resetting the car with my friends snap on scanner and the errors came right back. Now I need to take the car to the dealer to figure out what happened, There was never an issue with my car until I plugged this thing in. Just beware when buy some of these scanners from China.

I have an airbag light on (on dashboard) because I changed the left driver doors. This device didn't find any codes...
The o2 sensor this car working 0/1volt ?
Does the CReader 5 perform the same basic functions as the 6? Will it erase and reset?

Great video and demo!! Can you please tell me what does(fail) J1850 VPW/PWM mean on 2012 Buick lacrosse sedan!? Please!!!
Yes, each sensor can be viewed individually.
The CReader-VI is available in our online store at bavauto.com or by calling 800-535-2002.

Ahmed Fawzy - We cannot reply directly to your comment as it was sent in from Google. - What BMW model do you have?
Thank you very much for your response.
I have e39 520i 1998, high cluster.

Man, I would love to get my hands on this scanner, it's so high-tech. Have to save up for it. Thanks for the nice demo

I drive a 2009 BMW 328i and recently pulled out my front seats to clean the carpet. Does this reset the airbag and seat belt lights?

my car has a power window anti trap function code...do you know it this device will erase it?
+Sidney Sato - No. The C-Reader only reads and resets engine management (as well as reading the engine management sensors and other outputs).

Does the scan tool show the Transmission fault in BMW E60

The Creader-V is an older model and may need updates, as bedrock4u noted.

@BryanS0507
We'll see if we can find an extension OBD-II cable.
Yes, as far as reading the engine management system is concerned.
Does the CReader read EML codes?
No, just OBD-II
Why are there price tags ($ 12) next to the menu items ?
